The World Lottery Association recertifies the Hoosier Lottery as Level 4 recipient in responsible gaming

INDIANAPOLIS (December 15, 2021) – The Hoosier Lottery has once again received the highest level of distinction for responsible gaming by the World Lottery Association. The Hoosier Lottery originally received Level 4 Certification in 2015 by the international organization. The renewed certification is valid through 2024.

The World Lottery Association serves the interests of 152 state lotteries in 80 countries and six continents. Their principles acknowledge that gaming operators, among others, play an important role in helping to prevent problem gambling, and ensure funds are generated for good causes.

“We are committed to operating in a socially responsible manner in all we do,” said Sarah M. Taylor, executive director of the Hoosier Lottery. “Decisions surrounding games, marketing and advertising all involve best practices of responsible gaming. Our entire team’s efforts to implement our comprehensive program earned us this Level 4 recertification and I am so proud of each employee.”

The World Lottery Association Level 4 recertification process occurs every three years and includes providing a clear responsible gaming strategy for the next three years.

Level 4 Certification is earned by lotteries that integrate responsible gaming into day-to-day operations and demonstrate continuous improvement in responsible gaming programs. The World Lottery Association Responsible Gaming Framework consists of four levels of achievement and 10 Program elements (nine apply to Hoosier Lottery). It outlines how lotteries can demonstrate their level of commitment to the WLA Responsible Gaming Principles.

• Employee Program

• Retailer Program

The application was then reviewed by an independent third-party assessor and the World Lottery Association's independent assessment panel comprised of international experts in corporate social responsibility.

LONDON, U.K. (December 22, 2021) -- Clarion Gaming has confirmed that discussions regarding new dates for the 2022 editions of ICE London, ICE VOX and the co-located iGB Affiliate London are progressing and will continue through the holiday period. Clarion intends to announce the new dates early in the New Year after due diligence has been completed.

The decision to find new dates in Spring 2022 has been welcomed by leading industry bodies on both sides of the Atlantic.

Marcus Prater, Executive Director, Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers stated: “The Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers (AGEM) understands the difficulties of navigating all aspects of the business world during this ongoing pandemic and we appreciate the thoughtful consideration Clarion Events put into the decision to postpone ICE.

Global gaming suppliers are anxious to gather at a better time and in particular want to welcome back the international community and especially those based in Europe to ExCeL and the ICE exhibition.”

The Gambling Business Group (GBG), the UK-based cross sector strategic body whose members include many of the leading brands represented on the show floor, also endorsed the decision. GBG Chief Executive Peter Hannibal said: “The industry needs positive and successful editions of ICE London and iGB Affiliate London more than ever before. Clarion has shown itself to be progressive custodians of the brands and excellent partners to everyone involved in the gambling space. Businesses seek certainty and moving the shows into Spring 2022 represents the best possible option. A difficult decision but the right outcome in my opinion. The Gambling Business Group and its members look forward with great enthusiasm to being part of the international celebration of the gambling industry in all of its forms.”

In a communication to exhibitors Stuart Hunter, Managing Director, Clarion Gaming wrote: “We have been working closely with ExCeL London to secure a new dateline in April 2022. We have seen good progress over the last few days and now have a preferred date we are working towards, but we will require some additional time to iron out some operational challenges prior to confirming the final dates with you and the wider gaming industry. This work needs to continue through the Christmas period and we will then be in a position to confirm the selected date during the first week of January. Whilst we had hoped to have been able to confirm dates today (22nd December), the migration of events the size and scale of ICE and IGBA are hugely challenging – requiring full dialogue with our extended contractor base and other UK organisers who have tenancy at ExCeL to ensure the international gaming industry can meet with minimal disruption. I would like to thank you for your continued support and patience, it is hugely appreciated and I look forward to working with you closely in the new year towards ICE in April 2022.”

Virginia Sportsbooks Post Record Win From $400 Million in November Wagering

Sportsbooks stay hot with nearly $50 million in revenue, yielding more than $4 million in taxes, according to PlayVirginia

LAS VEGAS, NV (December 30, 2021) /PRNewswire/ -- Virginia sportsbooks posted their most lucrative month yet as revenue in November surged to nearly $50 million on more than $400 million in wagers, producing a record month of tax revenue for the state. Virginia has now posted three consecutive months of record revenue, adding to a historic surge of sports betting this fall across the U.S., according to PlayVirginia, which tracks Virginia's sports betting market.

"When football and basketball seasons converge, as they did in November, the inventory of games creates a ripe opportunity for sportsbooks," said Dann Stupp, lead analyst for PlayVirginia.com. "Importantly, it shows that Virginians have more diverse interests than just football, a sign that sportsbooks won't be giving up the gains made over the past three months once the football season ends."

Bettors poured $402.6 million in wagers into Virginia's sportsbooks in November, falling 6% short of October's $427.3 million, according to data released Thursday by The Virginia Lottery. Betting volume slipped to $13.4 million per day over the 30 days of November from $13.8 million in October.

But sportsbooks won a record $48.3 million, up 60% from $30.2 million in revenue generated in October and topping the record $30.9 million set in September. After $14.9 million in promotional spending, taxable revenue landed at $29.9 million, yielding a record $4.2 million in state taxes.

Sportsbooks posted a hold, the percentage of all wagers that a sportsbook keeps, of 12.0% for the month. That's the second highest ever for the state. Some of that is a result of bad luck on NFL games in November. Some is a result of online in-game betting, which typically yields a higher hold than more conventional wagering.

"A higher hold percentage is additional evidence that the market is maturing," said Eric Ramsey, an analyst for the PlayUSA.com Network, which includes PlayVirginia.com. "Not only have sportsbooks gained more customers, particularly over the last three months, but bettors are becoming more at ease with less conventional forms of betting."

Over the last three months, Virginia's sportsbooks have generated $109.4 million in revenue on $1.1 billion in wagers, producing $7.5 million in state taxes.

Football-related wagering has spurred the recent surge in action. But November's calendar offered just four weekends of football, one fewer than in October, and the Washington Football Team played just three games. Yet sportsbooks made up for the loss of football inventory with a full month of the NBA, as well as the opening of the college basketball season.

"The popularity of football is the industry's greatest opportunity to attract new customers and expand the market," Stupp said. "But the importance of basketball is often overlooked. In most major markets it is the highest-grossing sport, a product of the number of games played compared with football. And November's results show that Virginia is following a similar pattern."
