Gaming Control Board Returns to In-Person Public Meetings Beginning October 13th

Meeting will also be streamed live

HARRISBURG, PA (October 6, 2021) -- The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board announced today that it will return to holding its public meetings in-person beginning October 13, 2021. The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m.

This will be the first in-person regular Board meeting held in the PGCB’s 2nd Floor Strawberry Square location since March 2020 due to Covid-19 safety restrictions.

For those who choose to attend, the Board will provide acceptable social distanced seating in the meeting room. Masks are required while in the meeting room.

The Board also announced that online access to view the meeting will be available through the Board’s website by choosing the “live” link on the PGCB Meeting Videos section on the homepage. The Board’s website address is https://gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov/.

The agenda for the meeting will also be placed on the Board’s website prior to the meeting.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of gambling at 15 land-based casinos, online casino games, retail and online sports wagering, and Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) at qualified truck stops, along with the regulation of online fantasy sports contests.

The land-based casino industry in Pennsylvania consists of six racetrack (Category 1) casinos, five stand-alone (Category 2) casinos, two resort (Category 3) casinos and two mini-casinos (Category 4). 

Casino expansion will continue over the next couple of years with the anticipated openings of up to three additional Category 4 casinos.

A significant job generator in the Commonwealth, casinos and the other types of Board-regulated gaming is expected to generate more than $1.8 billion in tax revenue.

Tennessee Players Win Big Wednesday with $1 Extra Play Features on Powerball

Player Wins $50,000 with Double Play, Three Players Win $150,000 with Power Play

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (September 30, 2021) – Tennessee players won big Wednesday with $1 extra play features on Powerball.

Three lucky Powerball players tripled their winnings with the $1 Power Play feature, and a player won $50,000 with the $1 Double Play option.

The current estimated Powerball jackpot is $620 million, and the next drawing is Saturday, October 2. If won, it would be the sixth largest jackpot in Powerball history.

Three Powerball players matched four out of five white balls and the red Powerball to win, and because these players chose the Power Play feature for an extra $1 and the Power Play number drawn was 3, their prizes of $50,000 tripled to $150,000. A fourth Powerball player matched four out of five white balls and the red Powerball to win $50,000 but did not choose the Power Play feature.

The Double Play winner matched four out of five white balls and the red Powerball in a separate drawing to win $50,000.

For $1, Double Play gives players a chance to win additional cash prizes up to $10 million with their Powerball numbers. The European Lotteries: Online Growth Bonanza

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (September 30, 2021) -- On 30 September, the fourth EL Data & Research webinar took place, focusing on online business, which no doubt had an irreversible one-off growth impulse due to Covid-19 and the restrictions in place. Some players forcefully migrated online while lottery operators broadened their online games portfolio and tuned their communications to satisfy their needs.

The webinar, moderated by the chair of the EL Data & Research working group, - Václav Štěpán from SAZKA (CZ), covered several aspects of the online business, highlighting the best practices of EL Members from various online game verticals, including new innovative ones like E-sports.

Václav Štěpán from SAZKA (CZ) and David Henwood from H2 Gambling Capital (UK), focusing firstly on an overview of the EL online business historical evolution and the impact on COVID-19 on this last year. As many retail points of sales were limited or closed, the online sales share registered a significant step up in 2020, which seemed to remain. David Henwood complemented the EL internal view by H2 Gambling Capital's global comparison of the impact of the pandemic on global and European gambling and added their forecast till 2026.

E-sports as a new gaming product vertical via developing and managing Sazka eLeague, becoming No.1 league in the Czech Republic, and sponsoring the best Czech team competing in the top global league. Veikkaus (FI) presented their in-house e-instant game development experience, explaining the company’s unique process of developing successful e-instant games, combining internal game mechanics design and game development management with an external game delivery supplied by a game studio selected via a tender from a wide portfolio of a long-term collaborating suppliers.

 

The e-casino was the topic that followed whereby Lars Martin Ottesen from Norsk Tipping (NO) addressed the historical development of Norsk Tipping’s internal iGaming platform into successful e-casino product vertical while balancing it with players protection. The company implemented and is running advanced responsible gaming tools putting the player protection being at the centre of any new development.

 

This Data & Research webinar was the fourth of a series of five Data & Research working group’s webinars, to take place during 2021, planned to cover various aspects of lotteries operations. Next webinar, targeted on “Future of Retail”, will take place on November 25, 2021.
