Gaming Entrepreneur Bobby Soper Appears in Gaming Laboratories International’s (GLI®) Illuminating Conversations Web Series

LAS VEGAS (August 12, 2021) – Gaming entrepreneur and visionary Bobby Soper has been a leader in the tribal and commercial gaming industry for two decades, and now he brings his insights to the latest episode of Gaming Laboratories International's (GLI®) Illuminating Conversations web series.

Fellow gaming entrepreneur GLI CEO James Maida hosts the episode, and the two explore the significance of a company’s culture, the importance of diversification, land-to-trust issues, the new Mohegan Sun Casino at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, the relationship between tribal gaming and Las Vegas, Mohegan’s expansion into the Far East, and Soper’s involvement in green solutions.

GLI Bobby Soper

A key part of the discussion puts a spotlight on iGaming and the future of land-based gaming. Soper said, “We are all fooling ourselves if we don’t think that online gaming in any form, whether it’s lottery, sports wagering, or casino gaming as we know it, is going to continue to grow, and will, to some degree, cannibalize land-based gaming.”

Watch the episode now exclusively here.

Soper has been envisioning and creating the future of gaming for more than two decades. His latest role as International President at Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment has him developing major projects in Korea and Japan for the tribe, while he is also operating Sun Gaming & Hospitality, and leading several green energy efforts. In his now-legendary tenure at Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment, he led efforts to grow the organization from a single property company to a multi-property international enterprise.

The Illuminating Conversations web series is yet another way GLI gives the gaming industry critical insights that boost confidence to explore new markets.

Every episode of Season One is available now and includes appearances by Eilers & Krejcik’s Gaming Principal Todd Eilers; Jamaica Betting, Gaming Lottery Commission Executive Director Vitus Evans; Managing Director of Gaming Consultants International Neil Spencer; NIGA Chairman Ernest Stevens, Jr.; Ellen Whittemore, Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary at Wynn Resorts; and inventor and entrepreneur Nolan Bushnell.

Follow GLI on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram and be the first to know when new Illuminating Conversations episodes are available.

For second time, N.C. Education Lottery Achieves International Top Certification for Responsible Gaming

RALEIGH, NC (August 11, 2021) – The N.C. Education Lottery has received the World Lottery Association’s (WLA) Level 4 recertification for its commitment to building the best practices in responsible gaming into all of its operations.

Only a few lotteries worldwide have achieved Level 4 certification by the WLA, the highest level possible under the association’s strict responsible gaming standards. The lottery has achieved this certification twice.

“This is a great achievement for not only the lottery but for our players” said Mark Michalko, executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery.

“It shows that we are world leader in operating responsibly, providing our players with everything they need to enjoy the experience, make informed decisions and play the games how they are meant to be played – for fun.”

In 2017, the NCEL became the fourth U.S. lottery and youngest lottery to reach the top international standards of operating responsibly.

To qualify, every few years gaming organizations who have achieved the first three levels must prove to a panel of independent, social responsibility experts that its organization-wide operations continue to improve, meeting standards of excellence in responsible gaming.

The lottery did so successfully, with the panel praising its commitment for the creation of the award-winning player education and prevention program, Play Smart™, and improvements made across the organization in areas like retailer and employee training, game development and design, and advertising and marketing.

“The N.C. Education Lottery has demonstrated a strong management commitment and has dedicated significant resources in the development of its responsible gaming program,” the panel said. “The program in place is solid.”

In keeping with the tradition of high-quality work in this area, the lottery recently received national attention for its work in social responsibility.

The National Council of Problem Gambling awarded the lottery three national awards for its outstanding work in problem and responsible gambling, winning awards for:

• Best Corporate Public Awareness Campaign,

• Best Corporate Website, and

• Best Holiday Responsible Gaming Campaign.

Veikkaus Plans to Modernize, Streamline, and Reform Its Organization – Co-Operation Negotiations Concerning 830 People Launched

HELSINKI, Finland (August 11, 2021) -- Veikkaus’ operating environment and business volume have undergone profound changes in the past few years. As a result, we need to come up with new solutions to secure the continuity of our operations.

“Our future will be successful if we can adjust our operations to meet the demands of the operating environment while offering the players a responsible, high-quality customer experience,” says SVP, Channels and Sales, Mr Jari Heino.

It is especially the operating environment of the Channels and Sales function that has changed over the past years, with its business volume dropping. This means that we plan to adjust the size of our staff and to make our operations more efficient.

“We will continue to maintain an extensive network of retailers and game services, whilst making the operations of our gaming arcades more uniform. We also want to keep investing in our brick-and-mortar retail network and to work to preserve its vitality,” Mr Heino stresses.

Due to the changes, Veikkaus will launch co-operation negotiations on Monday 16 August, concerning ca. 830 people. According to current estimates, the projected measures may lead to personnel cuts of up to 200 employees. In addition, the terms of the employment contracts of ca. 330 employees may change essentially.

“We will plan the changes in a way that emphasizes our care for people in order that we can offer new jobs for as many Veikkaus employees as possible. One concrete example of this is Casino Tampere, to be opened in December, which has job openings for about 50 gaming industry professionals to work in a completely new type of a casino.

“To secure the successful implementation of the change, we will launch a programme to ensure support to culture, knowhow, leadership, and supervisory work. Our goal is to secure the continuity of Veikkaus’ operations and to make sure that we continue to be a dynamic, responsible, modern company that strengthens the wellbeing of Finns,” Mr Heino says.

As a modular solution, LotteryForce can be scaled up quickly and easily. Integrating it into lottery companies’ existing IT systems is a breeze thanks to high-performance interfaces.

Sachsenlotto, WestLotto and Thüringer Staatslotterie count on LotteryForce

adesso’s team of experts drew on more than 20 years of experience in the lottery industry when designing the new platform. Several international customers have already decided in favour of LotteryForce. In Germany, three state-owned lottery companies – Sachsenlotto, WestLotto and the Thüringer Staatslotterie – have recently completed a successful launch of LotteryForce. “Thüringer Staatslotterie has been relying on the iGaming suite from adesso since 2013. We introduced the new platform, LotteryForce, this year. It is an extremely stable and reliable platform, which is connected at the back end to the central system of IGT. The coordinated and smooth cooperation of the software components have impressed us from day one,” says Jochen Staschewski, CEO Thüringer Staatslotterie, expressing his enthusiasm about the new solution from adesso.

Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Striemer, head of lottery business at adesso, is pleased about the successful launch of the iGaming platform: “LotteryForce is a modular product that draws on our long-standing experience in the industry and our comprehensive technological expertise. One winner from each drawing will win two 2022 Seahawks season tickets; six winners will win the Ultimate Gameday Package, containing two charter-level game tickets, a one-night hotel stay, parking pass, brunch for two in the Verizon Lounge, a $150 prepaid gift card, one pack of Seahawks Scratch tickets, a $200 Seahawks Pro Shop gift card, and an autographed replica helmet; and 12 winners will receive a $200 gift card to the Seahawks Pro Shop.
