Third Annual Lottery Week Recognizes Important Industry Contributions

CONCORD, Ohio (July 12, 2021) – As America’s lotteries continue to report record sales and profits for fiscal year 2021 (which for most ended June 30), the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) – the industry’s trade association – would like to recognize the important role lotteries play in their jurisdictions by celebrating the third annual Lottery Week.

After all, lotteries were created to raise revenue for good causes, such as education, college scholarships, environmental conservation, senior citizen programs, tourism, tax relief, local aid for cities and towns, economic development and more. They do this by providing entertaining games that give all adults a chance to win big prizes for small stakes.

And it doesn’t end there. Throughout North America, lotteries provide hundreds of thousands of retailers with lottery-specific revenue as well as additional foot traffic, and provide tens of thousands of jobs either directly or indirectly.

They also team up with responsible gambling groups to educate their retailers and consumers, encouraging safe, responsible play. In addition, lottery organizations and their partners in private industry are often involved in supporting local causes in other ways as well, by hosting events like food drives and community cleanups. And, of course, it provides a source of fun and exciting entertainment for all players, not to mention the big prizes for lucky winners.

NASPL created Lottery Week, which begins July 12 this year, to recognize all of these contributions by lotteries to the communities they serve. “We launched Lottery Week to showcase the good lotteries do in their communities,” said Executive Director David Gale. “In the U.S. alone, their creative and entertaining products produced more than $23.7 billion in revenues to good causes during fiscal 2020.”

Lottery Week evolved from an idea implemented with great success by the Massachusetts Lottery in 2018. Declaring July 17, 2018, as National Lottery Day, Massachusetts offered consumers and retailers a special day of lottery promotions and celebrated the provision of billions of dollars in local aid since the state’s Lottery was created in 1972.

Ohio Lottery Gobbles Up Sales with Pac-Man® Scratch-Off Ticket and Ezplay® Game

“Thanks, a Billion, Idaho.” Idaho Lottery Returns One Billionth Dollar to the People of Idaho

BOISE, Idaho (, July 14, 2021) – The Idaho Lottery celebrated 32 years of entertainment and games by returning the single largest annual dividend to the People of Idaho, $72.5 million.  The Idaho Lottery’s announcement came during a public ceremony held at Iowa Elementary School in the Nampa School District with Governor Brad Littleand the Idaho Lottery Commission and Idaho.

“In 32 years, the Idaho Lottery has created over $4.6 billion in economic opportunity for Idaho’s small businesses and corner stores from Bonners Ferry to Montpelier. With this year’s dividend, the Idaho Lottery has now returned more than $1 billion to the People of Idaho,” said Governor Brad Little. “Every dollar created by the Lottery is a dollar that supports public education for school maintenance projects like here at Iowa Elementary.”

Idaho Lottery dividends are used by school districts for building maintenance, repairs, and operational projects.  Last summer, the Nampa School District and Iowa Elementary School utilized their Idaho Lottery dividends to replace their aging HVAC systems.  ACCO Engineered Systems, a Boise employee-owned company with branches throughout the west coast, installed 42 Trane air conditioning units, two large condensing units, plus two big air handlers for the gym and cafeteria at Iowa.  The project utilized about five of ACCO’s employees for the two-and-a-half-month-long project.

“The Lottery has benefits that reach deep into Idaho communities, well beyond players who win prizes and retailers who sell our products.  Iowa Elementary is just one project among thousands completed each year by local contractors and businesses in all of Idaho’s school districts with our dividend dollars,” said Jeff Anderson, Idaho Lottery Director. “Today, we recognize the benefits of an exceptional year that was beset with extraordinary circumstances and challenges by returning more dividends to the citizens of Idaho than in any previous year.”

This year’s $72.5 million dividend represents a 30.6% increase over last year’s dividend: the single largest increase in any of the Lottery’s 32-year history.  Anderson pointed out during his remarks that a single game, Powerball, was responsible for about 7% of the Lottery’s sales but represented 15% of the Lottery dividend. 

Governor Little and Idaho Lottery Commission Chairman Craig Corbett awarded the largest single check ever from the Idaho Lottery to support public education in the Gem State.  Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction Sherri Ybarra accepted a check for $45,312,500.  Of this amount, $27,187,500 goes to the School Building Fund Account for maintenance and operations projects and another $18,125,000 goes to the Department of Education’s Bond Levy Equalization Fund to pay the interest on Idaho’s Public School bonds.

“For more than three decades, the Idaho Lottery has contributed much-needed funds for Idaho school districts across the state to repair and maintain school buildings,” Superintendent of Public Instruction Sherri Ybarra said. “This year the annual dividend surpassed a record $45 million, and I am thrilled that we can gather in person, once again, to celebrate that contribution.”

Keith Reynolds, Director of the Department of Administration who oversees the Public Works Division and the State’s Permanent Building Fund, received a check worth $27,187,500 from Governor Little and Commissioner Corbett. Permanent Building Fund dollars support maintenance and capital projects for State-owned facilities and Idaho’s public college and university buildings.

"This Idaho Lottery dividend check will be used to fund necessary projects throughout the State of Idaho," said Keith Reynolds, Director of the Idaho Department of Administration. "Our state agencies, state universities and colleges, and the buildings that serve the citizens of Idaho are supported by this key source of revenue, which provides needed maintenance and safety improvements, keeping facilities up to date and in good repair. We appreciate and thank the citizens of Idaho that play the lottery."

This year’s dividend comes after the single largest sales year for the Idaho Lottery, exceeding $372 million in revenue and surpassing the $300 million mark for the first time. 

“In many respects, over the last year, the Idaho Lottery was a convenient, inexpensive, and available entertainment choice available to Idahoans.  The result was the most successful year of operations in our history, returning more to the People of Idaho than ever!” added Anderson.  “Thanks, a billion, Idaho!”

In addition to the dividend and sales records, the Idaho Lottery also set a new record for the number of Scratch Games introduced in a single year at 72, awarded a record amount in prizes to players worth $251.8 million, and the Lottery’s network of 1,200 brick and mortar retail locations earned a record $21.9 million in commissions.

Lucky for Life Expanding to Seven Days a Week Starting July 19

MASSACHUSETTS (July 12, 2021) -- The Massachusetts State Lottery will soon be offering a chance for a lifetime of winning every day when the multi-state Lucky for Life draw game expands from two drawings per week to seven drawings per week starting Monday, July 19, giving players a daily shot at winning $1,000 a day for the rest of their lives.

Drawings will be conducted nightly at 10:38 p.m. ET.  The cost per play, how the game is played and the prize structure will remain the same. Lucky for Life is currently drawn on Mondays and Thursdays. Tickets are $2 per play and are on sale until 9:30 p.m. the night of the drawing.

Winning tickets must be redeemed in the state in which they were purchased.

To play Lucky for Life, a player must select five (5) out of 48 numbers and one (1) out of 18 numbers in the Lucky Ball Pool.

Players matching all five numbers, plus the Lucky Ball, win $1,000 a day, every day, for the rest of their life.

Players matching the first five numbers correctly, but do not match the Lucky Ball, win $25,000 a year for their lifetime.

31st Australasian Gaming Expo (AGE) Will Now Take Place in 2022

SYDNEY, Australia (July 13, 2021) -- With the Department of Health managing the current COVID-19 outbreak in Australia as a health emergency and the NSW lockdown extended with no end date in sight, the Australasian Gaming Expo (AGE) organisers have made the unavoidable decision to postpone the event.

"Given the proximity to the AGE, border closures, and the unknown restrictions of the government's 'roadmap' out of lockdown, we needed to act now", said Chris Muir, CEO of the Gaming Technologies Association (GTA), who organises the AGE.

"And, we have not forgotten the heightened risk that this Delta variant poses for everyone at this time", Muir continued.

The GTA and venue (ICC Sydney) looked at alternative dates for the AGE however, largely due to its size, it was not possible to confirm dates for AGE to run in 2021.

The 31st AGE will now run from 9 to 11 August 2022.

Exhibitors are disappointed with the postponement. Despite the circumstances, many were still enthusiastic about showcasing their new products, services, and innovations.

"We've seen significant initiatives from AGE exhibitors over the last eighteen months as they support businesses with technology and physical distancing measures," said Muir, "and we'll continue to connect buyers with sellers as our industry once again begins its road-to-recovery."

Ontario Government Launches iGaming Ontario, a Subsidiary of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission

ONTARIO, Canada (July 9, 2021) – Today, the Government of Ontario announced the establishment of iGaming Ontario, a subsidiary of the AGCO, that advances Ontario’s plans to create an open and competitive internet gaming (igaming) market.

iGaming Ontario’s incorporation takes the province a step closer to providing Ontarians with more choice in online gaming experiences within a secure and regulated framework.

Later this year, iGaming Ontario will begin entering into commercial agreements with igaming operators that meet the province’s rigorous standards of game and operator integrity, fairness, player protections and social responsibility.

Once the regulated igaming market launches later this year, players should look for iGaming Ontario’s logo to know the site they are playing on meets all of Ontario standards and has been authorized, allowing them to play with confidence.

14 million hits, 14 lottery sixes and 60 prizes over 100,000 euros

Lotto Baden-Württemberg is reacting to the changed framework conditions and planning new products. The subsidiary has created the necessary technical infrastructure in recent months. “The State Treaty on Gambling opens a new chapter in the corporate history of Lotto Baden-Württemberg. We would like to offer those interested in gaming a reliable and serious alternative to private or possibly further illegal providers. Therefore we will expand our portfolio, as soon as we have the approval, ”says Georg Wacker. The new licenses for previously banned online games of chance can be applied for since July 1st. Originally, the permits should be possible as early as July 1st.

Approximately 99 percent of Florida Lottery revenue is reinvested back into Florida’s economy through prize payouts, commissions to more than 13,000 Florida retailers, and contributions to education. Only one percent is used for Lottery operations, making Florida one of the most efficient Lotteries in the country.
