U.K. (May 22, 2021) -- Camelot UK Lotteries Limited (‘Camelot’), the operator of The National Lottery, today officially placed 10th in Best Companies’ 100 best large companies 2021 and was the only large company to receive a wellbeing special award – celebrating the commitment Camelot has made to looking after its people. On top of this, Camelot took home an incredible three further accolades – placing 3rd in the ‘East of England’ list, 3rd in ‘Leisure & Hospitality’ and 1st in ‘London’s 75 Best Large Companies’.

The fun and Excitement of New Year’s Starts Early with the Hoosier Lottery

Countdown begins for “Powerball® First Millionaire of the Year” 2nd Chance Promotion

INDIANAPOLIS (May 21, 2021) – The Hoosier Lottery is getting the New Year’s countdown started on May 23 with the “Powerball® First Millionaire of the Year” promotion. Thirty-eight Hoosier Lottery players will each win $500 cash and have a chance to become the “Powerball First Millionaire of the Year” live on the 50th Anniversary broadcast of “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.”

This is the third multi-state “Powerball First Millionaire of the Year” promotion. Last year, Hoosier Lottery player Steven Everage, 46, from Seymour was one-of-five national finalists. He was the recipient of the “Party@Home” New Year’s Eve party package and was interviewed by country artist Jessie James Decker during ABC’s live broadcast of “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2021.”

Everage offers advice for Hoosier Lottery players: “For other people that enter 2nd Chance drawings I say enter them, because you have a chance to win. I mean, I had never won a 2nd Chance drawing, so if I can do it somebody else sure can.”

Albertans Can Now Purchase Lotto Tickets Online

New option to play draw-based games through Play Alberta

St. Albert, Alberta, Canada (May 21, 2021) -- Ahead of another significant Lotto Max draw Friday, the provinces only regulated online gambling website, PlayAlberta.ca, is giving Albertans the option to purchase their favourite national and regional lottery tickets on demand.

Beginning May 21, Albertans can purchase lottery tickets online, in addition to the traditional land-based retail lottery experience. Games being added to PlayAlberta.ca include Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49, Daily Grand, Western Max, Western 6/49 and the Extra.

In addition to lottery offerings, Play Alberta also includes slots, instants, virtual and live dealer table games, with plans to add sports wagering later in 2021.

The introduction of online lottery sales creates an opportunity for AGLC to expand its GameSense responsible gambling program within the Play Alberta website. Since the site’s launch in October 2020, new responsible gambling features have been added to Play Alberta, including loss, bet and daily session limits. This is in addition to various tools and resources employed on GameSenseAB.ca.

Play Alberta is accessible to Albertans over 18 and physically located within the province’s border through browsers on desktop, smartphones and tablets.

AGLC is mandated to ensure the province’s gaming industry is carefully managed to maximize the benefits to Albertans. In 2019-20, over $1.4 billion in net gaming income was generated for the General Revenue Fund, which is used to support programs and services that Albertans rely on every day.

New BCLC Board Chair Appointed

VICTORIA, B.C. (May 21, 2021) -- Selina Robinson, Minister of Finance, has announced the appointment of Greg Moore as the new chair of the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC).

Moore’s term as board chair begins on May 31, 2021 and will expire on Oct. 31, 2023.

Moore has a long career in public service and previous leadership experience with BCLC as a former board chair and interim president and CEO.

Moore was the mayor of the City of Port Coquitlam from 2008-18 and served as chair of the Metro Vancouver board of directors from 2011-18.

He was appointed by the B.C. government to BCLC’s board of directors in 2018.

In 2019, Moore resigned from the board to assume the temporary role of BCLC’s interim president and CEO until January 2021.

Moore replaces current chair Peter Kappel, who joined the BCLC board as its chair in May 2018. Kappel’s appointment expires May 31, 2021.

BCLC is the Province’s Crown corporation responsible for the conduct and management of gambling in British Columbia, under the Gaming Control Act.

Florida Lottery Reaches Landmark Milestone of $2 Billion in Education Contributions in A Single Fiscal Year

Largest Single-Year Contribution in the Lottery’s 33-Year History!

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (May 24, 2021) – Today, the Florida Lottery (Lottery) announced another record reached – $2 billion in contributions to the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF) during fiscal year 2020-21! This milestone marks the first time in the Lottery’s 33-year history that education contributions for a single fiscal year have reached $2 billion. Additionally, the Lottery reached the $1 billion mark for this fiscal year in December 2020, one month earlier than any other year in Florida Lottery history.

The Lottery has experienced double-digit growth for ten consecutive months this fiscal year, with total sales to date 23%, or $1.52 billion, higher than the same period last year. In February, the Lottery set a national single-week Scratch-Off sales record of $193.5 million, driven in large part by the newest $30 Scratch-Off ticket, BILLION DOLLAR GOLD RUSH SUPREME.

These increased sales translate into record education contributions. In January, the Lottery’s EETF transfers exceeded $269 million – the largest contribution to the EETF in the Lottery’s 33-year history, beating the January 2016 transfer during the world-record $1.58 billion POWERBALL jackpot series by $31 million! This fiscal year, the Lottery has averaged approximately $6 million a day to benefit education.

Since 1988, the Lottery has established itself as a committed and dependable funding source for public education, contributing more than $1 billion annually for the past 19 consecutive years while remaining one of the most efficiently operated Lotteries in the country.

Texas Lottery Kicks Off Year Long Celebration to Commemorate 30 Years of Winning

AUSTIN, Texas (May 25, 2021) – The countdown to the Texas Lottery’s 30th anniversary is underway! As it readies to reach the milestone in May 2022, the Texas Lottery will host a yearlong celebration to commemorate “30 Years of Winning.”

After the 72nd Texas Legislature approved and then-Gov. Ann Richards signed House Bill 54 into law, the majority of Texas voters approved the creation of the Texas Lottery on Nov. 5, 1991. At 6 a.m. on May 29, 1992, lottery sales in Texas commenced with Gov. Richards purchasing the first Texas Lottery® scratch ticket, Lone Star Millions, for $1 at Polk’s Feed Store in Oak Hill. Over the next 24 hours, Texans purchased 23.2 million more tickets – a world record for first-day lottery sales.

“There was tremendous excitement for the launch of the Texas Lottery, but there was no way at the time to predict the successes the lottery has seen over the past three decades,” said Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery. “Since May 1992, the Texas Lottery has achieved more than $113 billion in sales and distributed more than $69 billion in prizes to players.

Jeffrey Hewitt to Succeed Tom Shaheen

JACKSON, MISS. (May 26, 2021) – The Mississippi Lottery Corporation (MLC) Board of Directors announced today it has selected Jeffrey L. Hewitt to serve as President of the Corporation effective July 1, 2021.

“Jeff brings a lifetime of lottery experience and has been an integral part of MLC’s senior leadership during the startup phase,” said MLC Board of Directors Chairman Mike McGrevey.  “I know the lottery will be well led as it enters its next chapter.”

Hewitt has served as the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing of MLC since he was hired in June of 2019.  He began his career with the Florida Lottery in 1987 and previously served in senior roles with the Georgia Lottery Corporation, as well as Scientific Games, Intralot and IGT Global Services, three of the major technology vendors in the lottery industry.

Tom Shaheen, 68, was hired as the MLC Inaugural President in June of 2019. In January 2021, he informed the board of his goal to retire June 30, after a 32-year career in the lottery industry.

“I have known Jeff for more than 30 years and have great faith in his ability as a leader and lottery professional,” said current MLC President Shaheen. “I know the lottery will be in capable hands with Jeff at the helm.” 

The Lottery Board of Directors conducted a national search to find a new president, interviewing finalists earlier this month, and obtaining the approval of the Governor as required by the Alyce G. Clarke Mississippi Lottery Law.

The MLC sold its first instant ticket in November 2019 and began offering Powerball® and Mega Millions® games in January 2020. It transferred $70.7 million to the state during its first seven months of operations. Through April 30, 2021, the MLC has transferred $114,993,099.30 to the state benefiting Mississippi roads and bridges and the Education Enhancement Fund.

Argentina's Acrilpal SA Joins as a New Associate Member of CIBELAE

ARGENTINA (May 18, 2021) -- The Ibero-American State Lottery and Betting Corporation (CIBELAE) has just incorporated as a new associate member the Argentine company Acrilpal SA, dedicated to the production of systems, machines and accessories for the gaming sector.

Acrilpal began its activities in 1979, in the city of Gálvez, province of Santa Fe, as a manufacturer of elements for games of chance.

Its founders, Rubén Gustavo Pala and Rubén Pala, began by manufacturing acrylic material to produce casino chips.

During the year, they manufactured the first team of draws for Tómbola for the Institute for Financial Aid to Social Action (IAFAS). This development was followed by the manufacture of the draw machines for the QUINI-6 game.

Since then, Acrilpal has produced more than 350 draw machines for the different games of chance that are operated by the different gaming institutes in Argentina.

Acrilpal's current portfolio includes:

Illinois Lottery Introduces E-Claims

New Portal Allows Players to Claim Prizes Online

CHICAGO, Illinois (May 20, 2021) -- The Illinois Lottery has recently introduced e-claims as another way for players to quickly, safely and securely claim prizes - this time via an online portal.

“We are excited to introduce the e-claims portal to our players," said Harold Mays, Acting Director of the Illinois Lottery. "We understand how important it is for our players to redeem their winnings, and this online option provides our players with an additional opportunity to do so."

Players can access the e-claims portal on the Illinois Lottery website, through the When You Win page. To redeem a prize via e-claim, players must submit a claim form online along with a clear scanned image or photograph of the front and back of their winning ticket.

Processing time is expected to be 3-4 weeks, and players will receive checks by mail at the address they provide during the submission process.

Players can still claim prizes in a number of other ways:

Prizes of up to $600 can be redeemed in-store at Illinois Lottery retailers, funds subject to availability.

Prizes of $601 and over may be submitted via mail or by appointment at an Illinois Lottery Claim Center.

The launch of the Illinois Lottery’s e-claims portal was part of a collaborative effort with the Illinois Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT).  DoIT's mission is to empower the State of Illinois through high-value, customer-centric technology by delivering best-in-class innovation to client agencies fostering collaboration and empowering employees to provide better services to residents, businesses, and visitors.

The Illinois Lottery exists to generate funding for the Common School Fund, as well as good causes and capital projects in Illinois. During the first six months of the fiscal year, to the end of December 2020, players won over $1 billion in prizes, and the Illinois Lottery generated estimated proceeds to the State of $337 million.
