Szrek’s Trusted Draw Solution and Electronic Draw System Attested for Nonrepudiation and Conclusive Fault and Fraud Detection

EAST GREENWICH, RI (September 19, 2018) -- Bulletproof, a GLI company, recently evaluated Szrek2Solutions’ RNG solution, Trusted Draw™ and Trusted Audit™.   The final report ‘Independent Review of Security and Non-repudiation of the Szrek2Solutions Electronic Draw System (EDS)’ validated Szrek’s RNG draw solution as meeting or exceeding the best practices by providing conclusive auditability and proof of integrity.

To quote from the executive summary of the report:

The assessed electronic draw system, Trusted Draw, utilizes cryptographic hardware and algorithms in its methodology to provide proof of integrity through non-repudiation in the generation of random numbers [italics added for emphasis by Szrek2Solutions]. It creates unpredictable, unmodifiable data which is independently verifiable. Hardware as well as software faults and attacks against the RNG and its components are conclusively detectable.

The use of the independent Trusted Audit system completes the chain of trust in random number generation through validation and independent audit of the draw results. It verifies the seed for the random number generation and the supplied result data. Then it recreates the draw results and thus provides conclusive proof of integrity and non-repudiation in the random number and draw result generation process.”

Classified Advertisement
Austin Conference

What are the key integrity factors?

The capability to detect hardware faults, software problems and fraud attempts, and to reproduce or verify the draw results, are key integrity factors in the Szrek2Solutions EDS. In Bulletproof’s experience, primarily protective security measures have been the focus in EDS solutions in the industry so far, lacking reproducibility and conclusive verifiability of the draw results.”

Bulletproof concluded its evaluation report:

Transparency in the EDS and RNG process through auditability, proof of integrity by non-repudiation and effective fraud prevention and detection are the current key industry security and integrity best practices for electronic draw systems. Bulletproof concludes that the assessed Szrek2Solutions Trusted Draw and Trusted Audit system provides conclusive auditability and proof of integrity and thus meets or exceeds the current industry best practices for EDS and RNG technology and all relevant security standard requirements at the current time.”

The Szrek2Solutions’ RNG has been certified by several independent U.S. and international labs and deployed successfully since 2005 by numerous lottery operators and state licensed lotteries in the world. Customers include IGT Global Solutions; Texas Lottery, Oregon Lottery, and Iowa Lottery in the United States; Scientific Games International in Austria; ONCE in Spain; Lottomatica and Sisal in Italy; Loterie Nationale in Luxembourg; and Ithuba in South Africa.

In addition to Trusted Draw™ and Trusted Audit™, Szrek2Solutions’ Product Suite includes Trusted Play™, a high performance RNG server for generating outcomes for e-instant games and multiplayer games, Trusted Transactions™ for securing lottery transactions, and Trusted Ticket™ for authenticating lottery tickets. Camelot Launch New Brand Platform to Re-assert the Amazing Effects of The National Lottery

UNITED KINGDOM (September 14, 2018) -- This weekend Camelot is launching a major new brand promise for The National Lottery, as it looks to firmly establish playing the lottery as something everyone in the country can feel great about.

The new strategy and strapline, ‘Amazing Starts Here’, which has been created by adam&eveDDB and which will be rolled out across all of The National Lottery’s games and brands, aims to bring the purpose of The National Lottery to life by highlighting the fact that it makes ‘amazing’ happen for people – for the winners of prizes of all sizes and the Good Causes that The National Lottery supports, such as charities, museums, the British film industry and grassroots community projects.

The new campaign will break this Saturday, 15th September, with a two-minute film during The X Factor on ITV. The film tells the story of a hardworking fisherman whose wife strikes it lucky with a winning ticket.

The ad, which was shot by the director Mark Molloy in Macduff in Scotland, will be supported by a multi-channel campaign – with a series of TV, online, social and outdoor ads featuring people at the moment they realise they are winners.

This will be quickly followed by newly-created TV spots to promote Lotto Rollovers, which will feature newsagents around the country in their shops celebrating the announcement of the Rollover with everything from confetti canons to laser shows.

Further National Lottery ads will air later this year, including a 60-second TV spot supporting a Good Causes beneficiary and a new ad for EuroMillions, which will break in October.

The multi-channel campaign will also encompass digital, social, print, cinema and radio activity – with the new ‘Amazing Starts Here’ strapline also being rolled out across all National Lottery touchpoints, from tickets and Scratchcards, through to winners’ cheques.

Hayley Stringfellow, Head of Brand at the National Lottery, said: “The strategic review we carried out last year showed that we need to make The National Lottery more relevant to both players and the wider public. We’ve worked with adam&eveDDB to come up with a really inspiring strategy to show what The National Lottery is all about. ‘Amazing Starts Here’ brings to life the amazing things that The National Lottery makes possible for everyone – the unique combination of people winning prizes plus funding for projects the length and breadth of the UK – and it all starts with someone buying a National Lottery ticket.

Sam LeCoeur, Managing Partner, adam&eveDDB, said: “The moment we started working with Camelot, our shared ambition was simple – to build a new emotional relationship with our audience that shows the amazing things that can happen for families, communities and the nation, as a result of simply buying a National Lottery ticket.”

International Concern Over Blurred Lines Between Gambling and Video Games

BIRMINGHAM, U.K. (September 17, 2018) -- Global gambling regulators have teamed up to voice their concerns about skins gambling and loot boxes in video games.

Fifteen gambling regulators from across Europe, as well as Washington State Gambling Commission, have signed an agreement to work together to address the risks created by the blurring of lines between gaming and gambling.

Tackling unlicensed third-party websites offering illegal gambling linked to popular video games is a priority and the regulators are calling for the video games industry and technology platforms to play their part in helping crack down on these websites.

Games providers must also ensure that features within games, such as loot boxes, do not constitute gambling under national laws.

Neil McArthur, Chief Executive and signatory for the Gambling Commission on the declaration, said: “We have joined forces to call on video games companies to address the clear public concern around the risks gambling and some video games can pose to children. We encourage video games companies to work with their gambling regulators and take action now to address those concerns to make sure that consumers, and particularly children, are protected.

Neil adds: “We want parents to be aware of the risks and to talk to their children about how to stay safe online. For example, unlicensed websites offering skins betting can pop up at any time and children could be gambling with money intended for computer game products.”

American Gaming Association Release New Research on Economic Impact of Gaming Industry

Report shows 9.5 percent increase in economic output; industry now supports 1.8 million jobs nationwide

WASHINGTON, DC (September 18, 2018) -- Today, the American Gaming Association (AGA) released a new study examining the striking impact the gaming industry has on the U.S. economy – providing stable jobs to nearly two million Americans and generating billions of dollars in tax revenue. This is the first comprehensive report on the gaming industry’s national economic impact since 2014.

Oxford Economics’ 2018 study found that the U.S. gaming industry:

Schafer Systems Inc.
  • Contributes $261 billion to the U.S. economy, a 9.5 percent increase since 2014;
  • Supports nearly 1.8 million jobs, up from 1.7 million jobs in 2014; and
  • Generates $40.8 billion in tax revenues to federal, state and local governments.

Gaming companies across the country are enabling long-lasting careers for their employees and making a huge impact on their communities through innovative partnerships with local nonprofits, volunteerism and the generation of revenue that supports critical services. The industry’s tax revenue alone provides enough funding to hire 692,000 new teachers,” said Sara Slane, senior vice president of public affairs for the American Gaming Association. “Since our last study in 2014, casino gaming has expanded into new markets, offered innovative new entertainment options and enhanced its position as a key contributor to local, state and federal economies.”

The research was commissioned by AGA and conducted by Oxford Economics. More information about the study can be viewed here.

ECA Vice-Chair Hoscher Calls for Increased Action Against Unlicensed Online Gambling Providers at National Level

BRUSSELS / Malta (September 17, 2018) -- On the occasion of the 12th Conference of the European Association of the Study of Gambling (EASG) on Malta, ECA Vice-Chair Prof. Dietmar Hoscher gave a keynote on the challenges of illegal online gambling and the need for strong national actions.

As Hoscher highlighted, relevant case law and secondary legislation at EU level clearly underline the principle of subsidiarity and requirement for national licenses for the legal provision of online gambling services without mutual recognition. Despite the successes of some countries in stopping illegal gambling, the available data shows that the provision of illegal online gambling is on the rise in many EU countries where the issue is not yet sufficiently tackled.

The continued provision of unlicensed online gambling services has led to an undermining of consumer protection measures, regulatory efforts at national level and puts tax contributions and funding for good causes at risk.

There is also a threat of links to organised crime and money laundering in connection with illegal online gambling.

Reacting to these challenges, Hoscher argued in his keynote that: “Policy-makers, regulators and all stakeholders involved need to join forces and stop the provision of illegal online gambling. This requires strengthened enforcement of national gambling legislation through blacklists, IP blocking and payment blocking, as well as cooperation with online platforms and intermediaries. There is clearly a need and willingness to cooperate between regulators, the licensed gambling industry and other stakeholders to effectively tackle the issue.”

The EASG conference came ahead of the annual conference of the International Association of Gaming Regulators (IAGR) in Copenhagen, Denmark where these issues will also be on the agenda1.

In addition, the ECA has published a position paper on illegal gambling, as well as a report on the “Use and effectiveness of enforcement measures against unlicensed gambling operators in Europe”. Both can be found here.

The European Association for the Study of Gambling is a think tank at the intersection of academia, industry, regulators and politics that organises the conference every two years with experts from across the globe.

Besides the conference, the association also conducts research projects to support sound policy-making in the area of gambling. ECA Vice-Chair Prof. Hoscher is also a board member of the EASG.

About the ECA

The ECA represents licensed land-based casinos in Europe, with 28 members and over 70,000 direct employees supporting local economies across Europe. It has members from nearly all EU Member States, as well as non-EU countries. The main purpose and objective of the ECA is to address and promote issues related to casinos and promote the positive contribution of the industry.
