IGT and HTC VIVE Partner to Deliver World-Class Virtual Reality Casino Entertainment

Exclusive agreement brings HTC VIVE VR content and hardware to casino floors via IGT's "Virtual Zone" Platform

SEATTLE and LONDON (March 20, 2018) -- HTC VIVE™, the leader in room-scale premium Virtual Reality ("VR"), and global gaming leader IGT today announced a partnership whereby IGT will leverage HTC VIVE Studios' world-class VR content within its "Virtual Zone" platform on casino floors. IGT's Virtual Zone is a competition arena designed for casino environments that enables casino patrons to compete against each other for cash prizes in spirited VR tournaments, and enjoy competitive VR games in a physical installation. This agreement marks HTC VIVE Studios' first foray into the casino entertainment industry and the completion of IGT's first market-ready VR solution.

"Arcade-like installations and experiences are skyrocketing across the globe as VR has proven to be a consistent traffic generator in entertainment venues," said Joel Breton, HTC VIVE VP Global Content. "By combining IGT's gaming expertise and the world's best VR in HTC VIVE, we are launching a combined platform that can deploy the best complete experiences for VR tournaments or stand-alone VR arcades. This is also a huge opportunity for more consumers to be exposed to amazing VR content."

"IGT's Virtual Zone represents an exciting evolution of modern-day casino entertainment, and an important step in diversifying IGT's portfolio with unique offerings that can differentiate our customers' casino floors and entertain a broad demographic of players," said Enrico Drago, IGT SVP Global Product Marketing Interactive, Betting & Licensing. "HTC VIVE's leadership in the VR space and commitment to developing unparalleled VR player experiences made it the ideal partner for IGT's first commercialized VR solution, the Virtual Zone."

IGT's Virtual Zone is now live at Boyd Gaming's The Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The experience leverages HTC VIVE hardware, and solutions for a multiplayer competition allowing players to compete in real time within VR for Slot Dollars.

To support the tournament platform, IGT published a Software Development Kit (SDK), which game designers can leverage to develop VR content for the Virtual Zone. VIVE Studios was the first developer to leverage IGT's SDK, adapting the Arcade Saga game into a product that is designed to be tournament-ready for casino floors.

"IGT is committed to developing and delivering the most compelling content for our customers across multiple channels and platforms. Arcade Saga is a testament to the usability and relevance of IGT's SDK. HTC successfully adapted one of its most popular VR titles into a solution that IGT customers can leverage to entertain their players in a new way. We look forward to the further expansion of IGT's VR content library through this program," added Drago.

HTC VIVE is the creator of the unprecedented PC-based virtual reality system, the VIVE, which was built and optimized for room-scale VR and true-to-life interactions. The VIVE ecosystem has evolved around its premium VR product portfolio, supported by VIVE X, the most active global VR/AR accelerator that has invested in over 80 start-ups, Viveport, a global content platform with the world's first VR subscription model that operates in more than 60 countries, and VIVE Studios, VIVE's VR content development and publishing initiative. Kentucky Lottery Sales Continue Positive Trend

Early March indications show near record-breaking sales levels

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (March 23, 2018) -- Year-to-date Kentucky Lottery sales continue to surpass last year’s record-breaking level. This was announced in today’s meeting of the Kentucky Lottery Corporation’s board of directors.

Vice President and Corporate Controller Maggie Garrison reported FY18 year-to-date sales (July 2017 through February 2018) were $670.9 million. That’s $31.3 (4.9%) more than the record-setting level achieved in FY17. “This increase is due in large part to great performance from our Powerball and Mega Millions games, both of which have seen nice jackpot runs in recent months,” said Garrison. Powerball sales are up $6.9 million (13.9) from the previous year, and Mega Millions sales are up $5 million (25.4%).

President and CEO Tom Delacenserie reported the overall picture looks bright. “We ended February less than one half of one percent behind our budgeted sales figure, but March has really helped improve an already healthy bottom line,” said Delacenserie.

Both Powerball and Mega Millions saw jackpots in excess of $400 million during the month, and the launch of four new Scratch-off games led to a sales week surpassed only by the very first week of ticket sales in KY back in 1989. “We’re aligned to finish the last quarter of the year on a very strong note,” he said.

In other business, the board approved contract renewals with:

  • Garron Lottery Products for draw machine balls and machine maintenance;
  • Smartplay International for draw machine maintenance;
  • Gaming Laboratories International for lottery ball testing, random number generator evaluation and related services;
  • Goldberg Simpson, LLC and Valenti Hanley, PLLC for legal services.

The board also approved:

  • A contract amendment with Ellipse Solutions LLC for enterprise resource planning implementation and related services;
  • A new contract with Blue & Company for draw audit and related services;
  • A new contract with Linq3 Technologies LLC for lottery card products and related services, and;
  • Rules and regulations for 10 scratch-off tickets, artwork and prizes structures for four scratch-off tickets, and rules relating to internet purchases for 20 games.

The next meeting of the KLC’s board of directors will be June 22, 2018. The meeting will begin at 10:00 AM EST, and will be held at the KLC headquarters at 1011 West Main Street in Louisville. The audit committee meeting will begin at 8:00 AM EST, as well as the procurement committee at 9:00 AM EST.

Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation’s the Big Spin Instant Game Gives Players a New Way to Win!

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Canada (March 26, 2018) -- Pollard Banknote Limited (TSX: PBL) (“Pollard Banknote”) congratulates the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (“OLG”) on the incredible success of THE BIG SPIN INSTANT ticket, which launched in September 2017.

The Lottery invested several years into research and development of this unique concept, and the extensive planning paid off. After 10 weeks on the market, sales of THE BIG SPIN were nearly triple the Lottery’s average sales for other $5 games launched since 2014! With such remarkable immediate sales results, it is not surprising that OLG followed the initial launch with a second THE BIG SPIN game only a few weeks later. The Lottery introduced its third launch of the game in December 2017.

The instant ticket was printed by Pollard Banknote in a die-cut format, and leverages a straight-forward key number match gameplay that is appealing to a broad range of players. By matching numbers on the wheel with the lucky numbers at the top of the ticket, players have a chance to win an instant cash prize up to $100,000, or a “SPIN” at an OLG retail location.

OLG Big Spin Ticket

When the “SPIN” is redeemed, players watch an animated wheel spin on the customer-facing lottery terminal screen, giving retailers and other customers a chance to share the moment of anticipation. Every “SPIN” guarantees a win of a cash prize from $10 to $10,000 or a “BIG SPIN.” Ticket holders that land on the “BIG SPIN” are awarded the ultimate prize experience—a spin on THE BIG SPIN Wheel at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto for a guaranteed prize of $100,000 to $500,000!

THE BIG SPIN was designed to capture the moment when a player knows they have won a prize and anxiously awaits the spin of the wheel to determine the amount. The Lottery is leveraging social media to livestream THE BIG SPIN events for grand prizes, letting people around the world share the winning moment.

Player word of mouth is the most powerful driver of instant ticket sales,” said Brad Thompson, Director, Sales & Marketing, Pollard Banknote. “THE BIG SPIN pushes this strategy to the extreme with the unprecedented way in which prizes are publicly awarded. We are excited to be a part of this innovative game, and we look forward to working with OLG to continue providing players with unique and exciting instant ticket experiences.”

THE BIG SPIN has been more successful than we could have expected,” said Adam Caughill, Director, Lottery Business Development & Innovation, OLG. “Although we planned the first issue of the game to be in the market for six months, we ran out of stock in just four weeks! We look forward to continuing to offer new player experiences like this in the future to drive sales, and ultimately support communities across Ontario.”

OLG is the Ontario government agency that delivers gaming entertainment in a socially responsible manner. OLG conducts and manages gaming facilities, the sale of province-wide lottery games, PlayOLG Internet gaming, the delivery of bingo and other electronic gaming products at Charitable Gaming Centres and is helping to build a sustainable horse racing industry in Ontario. Since 1975, OLG has provided nearly $47 billion to the Province and the people of Ontario. These payments to the province support the operation of hospitals, amateur sport through the Quest for Gold program, local and provincial charities and problem gambling prevention, treatment and research.

Multi-State Lottery Association Concludes RNG Analysis and Issues Report

Arizona Lottery makes investigation results available to the public

PHOENIX, Arizona (March 19, 2018) – The Arizona Lottery released the report from the Multi-State Lottery Association’s (MUSL) investigation of Arizona’s Random Number Generators (RNG). This report can be found HERE.

In November 2017, the Arizona Lottery’s Executive Director instructed MUSL to investigate RNG machines in response to irregular draw results. An independent investigation was then conducted on Arizona Lottery’s draw machines that were operated by MUSL. The investigation was conducted by a third-party forensic technology firm and a statistical expert to evaluate historic draw events.

Since December 11, 2017, the Arizona Lottery has conducted its own game drawings independently from MUSL. The Lottery purchased new draw machines as part of a technology infrastructure upgrade prior to these irregular draw results occurring. These new RNGs have been certified and audited by two independent auditors and were built by Smartplay, an industry leader in RNG technology.

The Arizona Lottery is committed to protecting its players, the integrity of the Lottery and transparency to the residents of Arizona. We appreciate our players’ patience and support during this investigation.

ZEAL Group Confirms 2017 Results Exceed Guidance Following Strong Fourth Quarter

  • EBIT of €25.2 million; above guidance range
  • Total Operating Performance of €141.2 million; above guidance range
  • 31% increase in new registered customers
  • Strong fourth quarter billings of €78.8 million; up 21% from third quarter

LONDON, U.K. (March 22, 2018) -- ZEAL Group, the world’s leading lottery innovator, today announced it delivered a strong performance in 2017, with results exceeding guidance in spite of the exceptionally weak jackpot environment during the third quarter of the year.

The Group confirmed, as it published its audited results for 2017, it has delivered EBIT of €25.2 million and Total Operating Performance (TOP) of €141.2 million. Total billings for the year were maintained at €280.5 million[1].

The strong results were delivered in spite of the weak jackpot environment in the Group’s core products during the third quarter, higher hedging costs due to EuroMillions rule changes, and significant pay-outs including a single €15 million prize in the first quarter.

Schafer Systems Inc.

The Group’s fourth quarter performance was particularly strong with billings of €78.8 million; up 21% since the third quarter. This was driven by a combination of its most successful new product launch to date with the introduction of Powerball, and record billings in the Spanish Christmas Lottery, El Gordo.

Jonas Mattsson, Chief Financial Officer, ZEAL Group, said: “2017 was an exciting and satisfactory year for ZEAL Group. Our strong financial results, delivered in challenging conditions, demonstrate the underlying strength of our business. I am particularly pleased with our excellent fourth quarter performance in which we delivered our most successful new product launch ever. This, coupled with the progress we have made on being even more operationally efficient, gives me confidence for the future.”

The Group continued to make significant progress against its strategy by launching into three new international markets during the year, including two in the fourth quarter – Norway and the UK – which followed its second quarter launch in Ireland. In 2017, its sustained focus on customer acquisition delivered 411,000 new registered customers for the Group and its partners (2016: 314,000); an increase of 31%.

Dr. Helmut Becker, Chief Executive, ZEAL Group said: “2017 was a milestone year for the Group as we made good strategic progress: launching in three new markets, improving our product portfolio, enhancing our technology, being even more efficient, attracting more new customers, and continuing to unearth the lottery disruptors of the future.”

Dr Becker added: “The global regulatory environment continues to be challenging. However, we firmly believe the world’s lottery market is full of untapped potential. As a diverse and long-term focused business, we are well positioned to take advantage of those opportunities.”

Gambling Business Changing Its Promotions

BIRMINGHAM, U.K. (March 23, 2018) -- A further gambling operator has changed the terms of its online promotions following an investigation.

BGO Entertainment Ltd has made formal commitments to change the way it offers bonus promotions to customers playing online games.

The commitment follows a Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigation, in collaboration with the Gambling Commission, to tackle shared concerns about unfair terms and practices within the gambling sector.

Ladbrokes, William Hill, and PT Entertainment gave similar commitments in response to the CMA’s concerns that certain terms in these promotions were likely to be unfair, in breach of consumer protection law, and could mislead their customers. On 1 February, the Commission warned operators to take immediate action to meet consumer law requirements and make changes to their promotions.

BGO has also separately agreed that it will not include terms which could be used to unfairly change promotions after players have opted in. We also expect operators to remove any similar terms they may have by 3 April 2018.

Details of the commitment are set out in the CMA release.

Ian Angus, Programme Director at the Gambling Commission said: “It’s very important that consumers feel that the odds are not stacked against them when they gamble and we expect all online operators to look closely at their terms and practices to ensure they treat customers fairly.

We will soon commence a programme of compliance activity and if necessary we will not hesitate to take robust regulatory action.”

Gambling Commission Makes Online Gambling Safer

BIRMINGHAM, U.K. (March 26, 2018) -- New plans to make gambling online in Britain safer than ever before have been announced by the Gambling Commission.

Statistics show that industry profits (1) from the sector have grown 10% to 4.7bn in the last year, and public participation has increased from 15.5% in 2014 to 18.3% in 2017. It is estimated that nine million people across Britain gamble online.

Neil McArthur, Gambling Commission Chief Executive, said: “Britain has the largest regulated online gambling market in the world and we are continually looking for ways to make it even fairer and safer for consumers.

The proposals we have announced today are intended to protect children better, reduce the risks to vulnerable consumers and build on the measures we already impose on operators to know their customers and intervene at an earlier stage before consumers experience harm.

Tracey Crouch Minister for Sport and Civil Society said: "We are committed to ensuring the gambling industry is safe and sustainable. These proposals for additional regulations will strengthen the controls already in place and further safeguard children and vulnerable people from the risks of online gambling."

Proposed changes and action include:

  • Further protecting children by banning operators from providing free-to-play demo games until a consumer’s age has been determined
  • Improving the speed and effectiveness of age verification processes
  • Ensuring operators set limits on consumers’ spending until affordability checks have been conducted
  • Tackling unacceptable marketing and advertising and unfair terms, and improving complaints and disputes procedures
  • Strengthening requirements to interact with consumers who may be experiencing, or are at risk of developing, problems with their gambling.

The review also identifies five areas where the Commission is undertaking further work during the coming year.

The Commission is going to:

  • Assess the effectiveness of the current tools available to consumers to manage their gambling
  • Review gambling product characteristics to identify whether particular features pose greater risk of harm than others
  • Review our requirements on the protection of customer funds and consider whether there are sufficient protections around dormant accounts
  • Consider whether gambling on credit should continue to be permitted
  • Consider whether we need to make changes to ensure that consumers can withdraw funds more easily

GALLEN, Switzerland (March 26, 2018) -- Betradar have announced a partnership with online bookmaker Betbright through its Managed Trading Services (MTS) division.  The agreement between the two businesses will see Betradar engage in selective trading on specific sports for the Dublin-based operator.

Founded in 2012, Betbright has emerged to establish itself as one of the ‘best in class’ operators when it comes to technology and systems, competing successfully against the legacy operators  in the UK and Ireland.  For Co-Founder and CEO Marcus Brennan, the business has a clear vision, where technology built around Betbright’s own proprietary platform remains a foundation for growth and differentiation.

Betradar is a global leader in sports data and launched its MTS division at the beginning of 2015. From its inception as a fully managed outsourced trading solution, under Managing Director Paolo Personeni, the business has seen exponential growth, with in excess of one hundred operators now using the service.

Using cutting edge technology, MTS remains the only solution available to operators that is based upon the full control of all components necessary to power a modern and highly efficient sportsbook.

Betbright are one of the latest operators to join Betradar’s MTS. Speaking about the agreement, Brennan emphasised that the partnership was an important development for the business: “We have worked closely with Sportradar through data provision and their reputation in the industry speaks volumes.  But we saw an opportunity through MTS that would enable us to increase our offering and trade on selected sports where Sportradar’s expertise was proven. This enables Betbright to free up resource and focus on areas where we are particulary strong. Selective trading through MTS we feel will become a more integral part of our strategy going forward and certainly as we expand into new territories with our first foreign markets planned for 2019.”

MTS Managing Director Personeni outlined the strategic importance of the relationship with Betbright and how such brands were assisting with the evolution and continued growth of the team: “The partnership with Betbright has enabled MTS to develop its offering further.  Each operator has individual requirements as they seek a tailor-made solution specific to the needs of their business and ultimately the end user. With Betbright, we have a partner that has a long term vision for growth, combined with the energy to embrace change and new technology.

“Using the innovative ‘Guaranteed Return’ commercial model, Betbright will also benefit from our compelling and credible risk management tools.  With an essential two-way flow of communication between the trading teams, it ensures maximum efficiencies for a healthy sportsbook delivering solid margins and returns.

Landmark launch sees new Danske Spil site powered by SBTech’s  full sports and casino platform solution

LONDON, U.K. (March 27, 2018) -- SBTech, the leading sports betting and casino solutions provider to the regulated igaming sector worldwide, is delighted to announce the landmark launch of Danish state lottery Danske Spil’s latest gaming and betting brand Youbet.

The new site will target fresh sports betting demographics with dynamic, cutting-edge features and competitive pricing, and will also include a best-of-breed casino hub with over 1,000 gaming titles and live casino products from the world’s best developers and live studios.

AGE 2018

Youbet complements Danske Spil’s current online sports betting and casino offerings with a new site powered by SBTech’s full platform solution. To place Danske Spil’s position within the context of Denmark’s regulated gaming market, the group recorded gross gaming revenues of almost €660m (DKK4.9bn) in 2017, while Denmark state regulator Spillemyndigheden’s latest figures show that industry-wide GGRs across sports, online and land-based casinos and gambling machines were €792m (DKK5.9bn) in 2017, with betting contributing the highest GGR of all the verticals at €308m (DKK2.3bn).

This latest launch in a regulated market is built around SBTech’s powerful sportsbook engine, offering unparalleled event coverage and in-play betting, thousands of proprietary bet types and industry-best features such as Action Betting, Add2Bet and Pulse.

Youbet will also benefit from SBTech’s Chameleon360 iGaming platform, providing it with advanced player management services, high-end analytics, strong anti-money laundering and responsible gambling features, robust regulatory reporting and streamlined payments.

Niels Erik Folmann, CEO of Danske Spil, explained the thinking behind the Danish lottery’s new brand: “Danske Spil has executed a very strong strategy in terms of maintaining our market share since regulation in 2012, exceeding all market expectations.
