Mega
Millions, Powerball Runs Lead to Highest Sales and Income Month in Kentucky
Lottery History
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (November 12,
2018) -- The near-world record Mega Millions jackpot run in tandem with
a Powerball jackpot run that rose to more than $680 million led to the
most successful sales month in the nearly 30-year history of the Kentucky
Lottery.
Overall sales for the month were
$115.5 million, which is $33.2 million (or 40.3%) more than budgeted. This
shatters the previous record sales month from January 2016, when a world-record
Powerball jackpot of $1.6 billion led to sales of $105.1 million.
This in turn led to $34.4 million in
monthly net income to the Commonwealth for the month, again a record. This
surpasses the previous record, also set in January 2016 by $1.8 million.
Kentucky players hoping to win the
$1.5 billion jackpot awarded in October spent $21.2 million on Mega Millions
tickets alone. This exceeded the $3.8 million October budgeted sales for the
game by $17.4 million. Powerball ticket sales for the month were $13.3 million,
which exceeded the budgeted sales for the game in October by $7 million (or
114%).
Lottery Scratch-off tickets also
posted a solid month, realizing $55.1 million in sales. Thats $9.3
million (or 20.3%) higher than budgeted.
The Lotterys online sales
portal also saw its highest sales level in the sites history, driven in
part by the number of players going there for Mega Millions and Powerball
tickets. Instant Play games online realized $1.5 million in sales, beating the
old record by $300,000.
While jackpot games were
obviously the major driving force behind these record sales, our other products
also did really well, said the Lotterys President and CEO Tom
Delacenserie. Great performance by our Scratch-offs and strong online
sales helped bring home the record month. We have a solid plan ahead for
November to help sustain the forward momentum, as our states college
students are counting on us for scholarship and grant proceeds.
The Kentucky Lottery has earned over
$5.1 billion for the Commonwealth since 1989. KLC dividends pay for
college scholarships, grants and literacy programs. Visit kheaa.com to find out

Svenska Spels New Campaign Emphasizes: Social
Responsibility, Major Sponsor of Swedish Sport and
State-Owned
VISBY, Sweden (November 12, 2018) --
Social responsibility, major sponsor of Swedish sport and state-owned - these
are areas that Svenska Spel emphasizes when the Group positions itself for the
reorganization of the Swedish gaming market. The brand campaign on the theme
"The world's Swedishest gaming company" starts on November 12th.
From the turn of the year, a major
change in the Swedish gaming market takes place with a new gaming legislation,
which means, among other things, that foreign gaming companies can apply for a
license to offer games in Sweden. Svenska Spel welcomes the change and prepares
by launching a new branding campaign.
 |
"Now that we finally compete on
equal terms in the gaming market, we want to make it clear that we are
different from many other gaming companies. We are the entire Swedish people's
gaming company, and this means, for example, that the entire profit returns to
the state and benefits society, thus taking social responsibility. Everyone may
not know what we stand for. With our new branding campaign, we show that it is
important which gaming company you choose, says Joakim
Mörnefält, Communications and Sustainability Director Svenska
Spel.
The new concept is called the
world's Swedish gaming company, claiming that Svenska Spel conducts its
business in a unique way, where state ownership, social responsibility and
proximity to the sporting movement are some of the pillars.
Svenska Spel is Sweden's
oldest gaming company and has made the game a popular entertainment by offering
games for everyone. With the concept "The world's Swedish gaming company", we
want to lift the Swedish way of running gaming companies, that is, shaky,
trustworthy and genuine - endowed with a lot of humor and glimpse in the eye.
In the concept, we also want to show that we are a caring and inclusive gaming
company. Everyone is welcome and we have something for everyone, says
Anna Fohlin, Marketing Manager, the Swedish brand brand brand.
Svenska Spel also wants to emphasize
that the group is owned by the Swedish state, that is, the entire Swedish
people from north to south, and that all revenues return to Swedish
society.
"We have a unique position and we
take it into the new gaming market. When the other companies are screaming, we
want a little more sensible tone. At the same time, we are clear about lifting
what we are good at and that we actually see things in a slightly different
way. One example is that for us a bonus is not a game bonus, but a bonus that
benefits society as a whole, "says Anna Fohlin.
About the concept and
campaign
The concept has been developed
together with Bloomy. The campaign will be on TV, outdoors, digital screens,
SoMe and on-line.

Manhattan Man Wins Largest Jackpot in New York Lottery
History
NEW YORK (November 14, 2018) --
Sixty-seven-year-old Robert Bailey has come forward to claim the $343.8 million
winning ticket from the October 27, 2018 Powerball drawing. Bailey, of New York
City, now has the distinction of winning the largest jackpot in New York
Lottery history. His winning ticket matched all six of the numbers drawn;
numbers he said he has been playing for over twenty-five years.
A family member gave me the
numbers over twenty-five years ago and I faithfully play them,
explained Bailey.
The retired federal government
employee purchased his lucky ticket at the West Harlem Deli on 5th Avenue in
Harlem. I buy my tickets at three of four different stores. It
was raining that day so I went into the deli to get out the rain and bought my
ticket there.
Bailey said he checked his ticket
online after the drawing and was in shock at what he saw. I said
to myself, these look like my numbers. I tried
to remain calm and sat down to watch some shows I had on my DVR. I
didnt sleep the rest of the night.
The winning Powerball numbers for
the October 27th drawing were 8-12-13-19-27 Powerball 4.
Bailey opted to take the cash value
of the annuitized prize, earning him a single lump sum payment totalling
$198,086,518. His net check will total $125,396,690 after required
withholdings. Bailey was presented his winnings today by Yolanda Vega of the
New York Lottery at an event at Resorts World Casino New York City.
When asked how it felt to win an
historic Lottery jackpot Bailey said, Its a good life changer. I
plan to do the right thing with the money.
As far as continuing to play the
Lottery Bailey said Yes, I will continue playing my numbers until this
train runs out!
New York Lottery Director Gweneth
Dean offered her congratulations to Bailey. We congratulate
Robert on his historic Lottery win. Its good to see a new record set in
New York. I should also note that this is a good thing across the board as New
York also had two one million dollar winners and 26 winners of $150,000 or more
for this drawing.
Dean noted that the jackpot
win and increased ticket sales also had a ripple effect in New York. During the
jackpot roll up that began on August 12 and ended on October 27, New
Yorks Powerball prizes to players was more than $363 million, Aid to
Education accrued more than $39 million and Lottery retailers earned $6.6
million in commissions.
This is the second consecutive
Powerball jackpot won in New York this year. The most recent win came in
September when the Sea and Sand Trust won the $245.6 million jackpot.
The New York Lottery contributed $
1,337,283,719 in Lottery Aid to Education to school districts throughout the
five boroughs of New York City during fiscal year 2017-2018.
About the New York
Lottery
The New York Lottery continues to be
North Americas largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing $3.37
billion in fiscal year 2017-2018 to help support education in New York State.
The Lotterys contribution represents approximately 13 percent of total
state education aid to local school districts.
New York Lottery revenue is
distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to
distribute other state aid to education. It takes into account both a school
districts size and its income level; larger, lower-income school
districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding.

Collaborate and Know Your Customers to Make Gambling Safer
Gambling Commission CEO to Leaders of Britain's Gambling
Industry
BIRMINGHAM, U.K. (November 8, 2018)
-- Gambling Commission Chief Executive Neil McArthur has today called on the
industry to work together and know their customers better to make gambling in
Britain the fairest and safest in the world.
Mr McArthur made the call at the
regulators Raising Standards Conference at the International Conference
Centre in Birmingham.
 |
The event, attended by 170 leaders
from more than 100 gambling businesses, is aimed at encouraging the most senior
members of the industry to take action to boost fairness and safety.
He said: I want consumers
in Britain to be able to enjoy the fairest and safest gambling in the
world
and to achieve my aims I need your support: I need you to work
together to make sure you are the best - the fairest, safest - gambling
operators in the world.
Mr McArthur told delegates he wanted
gambling businesses to collaborate and focus on three areas - understanding the
early signs which could indicate a customer is experiencing or developing
problems, interacting with those customers to ensure they can receive support
and advice, and rebuilding public trust by changing advertising strategies.
This is a call to action to
join the race to the top, he said. A race to put your
customers, their enjoyment and their safety at the top of the agenda for your
management meetings, your board meetings and meetings with your
investors.
A race to approach the
minimum requirements we impose as exactly that: minimums not maximums. A race
to look for real solutions to the public health issue of gambling-related
harm.
Todays conference also heard
from Jeremy Wright, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport,
and representatives from the Advertising Standards Authority, the Competition
and Markets Authority, and Twitter UK.
Guy Parker, ASA Chief Executive,
said: The existing rules that regulate the content and targeting of
gambling advertising are working effectively, but there is public concern about
the timing and quantity. Todays Gambling Commission conference is a great
opportunity for gambling firms to discuss how those concerns might be
addressed.
George Lusty, CMA Senior Director
for Consumer Protection, said: Weve seen gambling operators
making changes to promotions and withdrawal practices, and this is a great
start, but its only one aspect of achieving compliance and clearly much
more needs to be done by the sector to win back customer trust.
The best operators going
forward will be those who lead by example, those who build on the work
weve done and treat their consumers fairly and responsibly.
Dara Nasr, Managing Director for
Twitter UK, said: Twitter recognises the importance of innovation,
knowing your customer and acting accordingly to ensure they are treated fairly,
and I believe such a stance will serve the other industries well too.
I think todays event
is a great way for key players in the gambling industry to come together to
find new ways to safeguard their customers which will benefit both their
businesses and the industry as a whole.

In one year, the OCGs profits
were estimated at EUR 80 million in activities involving illegal online
gambling, money laundering and tax fraud.
Between 6 and 8 November, Operation
Shadow Game led to a total of 267 searches in Portugal and 8 searches in
Luxembourg, resulting in the seizure of EUR 576 000, approximately 3 000
computers and tablets used in illegal gambling, 428 pieces of hardware, 22
firearms and 86 vehicles.

criminal activity.
The OCG operated since 2015 in

Action Unit of the Portuguese Republican National Guard (Unidade de
Ação Fiscal da Guarda Nacional Republicana) and several
territorial police departments, with the cooperation of the judicial and law
enforcement authorities of Luxembourg.
The international coordination would
not have been possible without the coordination of Eurojust, which assisted
with the issuing of European Investigation Orders and freezing orders, and the
