Lottomatica Group Subsidiary GTECH Corporation To Provide
Washingtons Lottery With New Self-Service Vending Machines, Additional
Instant-Ticket Vending Devices, And Multimedia
Technology
First Customer To Deploy
Companys Gemini Instant, Online, And Multimedia Self-Service
Vending Machine
ROME, Italy PROVIDENCE, Rhode
Island (January 21, 2010)
Lottomatica Group
S.p.A. announced that its subsidiary
GTECH Corporation has signed
a contract amendment to provide Washingtons Lottery with the Companys latest
self-service lottery vending machine, Gemini, as well as additional
instant-ticket vending devices, and multimedia technology. GTECH expects to
receive revenues of approximately $20 million to $25 million, beginning in the
fourth quarter of 2010 through June 2016. Todays announcement also
represents the first deployment of the Companys Gemini product.
GTECH is listening to, and
acting on, the ever-changing market needs of its customers in order to better
understand and address the requirements of the lottery industry, said
GTECH President and CEO Jaymin B. Patel. As a result, we are creating
market-driven solutions such as the Gemini lottery product vending machine,
which will benefit lotteries, retailers, and players alike.
With Gemini,
Washingtons Lottery will gain enhanced online/instant sales, inventory
and machine status reporting, and the ability to attract new players who prefer
the self-service option, while retailers will see reduced labor associated with
selling lottery products, continued Mr. Patel. With the
added feature of ES MultiMedia incorporated into the machine, the Lottery will
also be able to manage, distribute, and display multimedia content such as game
advertising and messaging through a single point of control. We are pleased
that Washingtons Lottery will be the first to deploy such an innovative
product.
Under the agreement, GTECH will
replace the Lotterys existing Instant to Go® instant-ticket only
vending machines with 960 Gemini machines, ensuring a more streamlined lottery
transaction while preventing underage usage by requiring the player to scan a
driver's license before purchasing lottery products. The Company will also
install its Enterprise Series MultiMedia screens on the existing 280 Lottery To
Go® instant/online self-service machines for both consumer information and
increased retailer/player security. GTECH will deploy 30 additional
clerk-assisted countertop Instant Showcase® units to provide enhanced
retailer accounting and increased instant-ticket sales, bringing the total
Instant Showcase unit count to 80 statewide. GTECH expects to have the
installation of the machines and monitors completed by November 1, 2010.

Former Cantor Fitzgerald LP Executive Launches New Company To Offer
The Regulated Lottery In The United States Via Mobile
Devices
Brent Wilkins Launches
Mobile Lottery® LLC to Extend Lotteries to Mobile Handsets in the United
States and Raise an Additional $ 6.5 Billion for State
Governments
LAS VEGAS, Nevada (January 5, 2010)
-- Brent Wilkins, former Cantor Fitzgerald LP Managing Director, has announced
the launch of Mobile Lottery® LLC (www.mobilelottery.com) to capitalize on the growth and
technological advances in United States wireless networks and mobile devices to
expand state lotteries to mobile devices. As the most trusted gaming
offering in the world, state budget deficits are reaching record levels and
expected to increase in the years ahead. A regulated mobile lottery offering is
expected to not only increase the $ 65 billion in current lottery revenues to
the states that participate by 10% but also lower the cost as a more
efficient and cost effective method for distribution.
Our goal is to create the
number one brand in the mobile lottery space using my expertise gained from
launching the first real-time mobile trading application for the U.S.
Treasuries with Sprint-Nextel in 2005, said Wilkins, CEO of Mobile
Lottery LLC. My serving as a key contributor with Cantor
Fitzgeralds successful Cantor Gaming wireless gaming business in Las
Vegas has prepared me for this opportunity to extend the current state lottery
offerings to exciting new mobile devices such as the iPhone, Google Nexus One
and other Android OS devices , Motorola Android OS devices, Blackberry
Storm/Bold and various Microsoft Windows devices.
With over two-thirds of the U.S.
population having played the lottery and with 23% of those participating
playing regularly, the mobile lottery can now be available to the 208 million
U.S. mobile subscribers who qualify. Software now exists to verify a
players age and that one is playing from a legal jurisdiction.
Mobile lottery also practices responsible gambling and can restrict, limit, and
control the amount each individual partakes in lottery systems.
The ability to securely and
reliably trade over $ 20 billion in U.S. securities with an average transaction
value of over $ 5 million four years ago proved mobile financial transactions
are indeed possible. New technological advances in mobile operator networks and
mobile smart phone devices now allow for both a legally compliant and exciting
game experience for the wireless lottery player in the 42 U.S. states
that choose to participate, added Wilkins.
Location Based Services (LBS) can
now accurately pinpoint a lottery players location ensuring the
participating state will receive its revenue share. It also ensures the state
will adhere to regulatory requirements by offering intrastate gaming and
compliment the existing land based lottery systems whose revenues have
flattened in recent years.
Advantages of mobile lotteries
include increased state revenues because of the added convenience, the ability
to address problem gaming, elimination of fraud and lost tickets, and added
revenue streams via mobile advertising and consumer market data.
The merger of the Powerball
and Mega Millions lottery game essentially allows for a national lottery with
one application across many devices, operating systems, mobile operators and
content stores. Additionally, with the recent deployment of WiMax
and evolution of LTE (Long Term Evolution) technologies, the long term
prospects for the mobile gaming transaction space is extremely bright,"
said Wilkins.

2009: Française des Jeux, the Second-Largest Lottery in the
World
BOULOGNE, France (January 8, 2010)
-- On 7 January 2010, Christophe Blanchard-Dignac, Chairman and CEO of
Française des Jeux,
presented the company 2009 activity results to the Board of Directors.
Stakes reached nearly 10 billion
euros (9.997 billion), up from 9.2 billion in 2008 (+8.6%) and
9.5 billion in 2006. Française des Jeux moved up from the
third-largest to the second-largest lottery in Europe:place> and the
world.
2009 saw a progressive upturn in
sales following the improvement in the French economy, with a marked rise at
the end of the year. In this context, the overhaul and innovation work applied
to all product ranges over the last two years was profitable. It should also be
noted that the 2009 calendar was exceptional in containing especially three
Friday the 13ths (compared with one in 2008), which generated
additional sales of nearly 200 million.
2009: over 800 million prizes :
28.2 million French people,
including 8.4 million regular players, staked an average of just under 1
per day (6.70 per week). They continued to benefit from the increase in
the Prize Payout to players. The Prize Payout to Players now stands at 63.1%
(73.6% for betting).
Française des Jeux paid out
approximately 800 million prizes of between 1 and 100 million. 113
new millionaires ( 1 million) were created, making an average of two
every week. There was an average of one new multi-millionaire ( 5
million) every fortnight and one big winner ( 10 million) every
month.
2009 saw a record 100 million
winning on Euro Millions, awarded on 18 September to a group of 15 players, and
a record 19 million winning on Loto on 2 May. On 31 December, in the last
Keno draw, one player won a record 10 million.
Lottery games: success for the new Loto and
Cash:
Lottery games, which represent the
core of the business, recorded stakes of 9,214 million in 2009, up by
7.5% compared with 2008.
The new Loto: 16% of the years
stakes:p>
New Loto sales were up by 11.4% at
1,618 million, boosting the range of draw-based games by 5.1%. The game
has fulfilled expectations: it has attracted 15 million French people,
including one million new players (+15%). The number of winning grids was up by
35% (134 million), and the new Monday draw proved popular (21% of sales).
A new generation of scratch games:
With 21.8 million players, 36,600
points of sale and 1.8 billion tickets sold in 2009, scratch games are the most
popular among all games.
The range has seen new growth
(+16.9%) with revenues of 3,879 million, representing nearly 39% of
sales. However, the different product families showed balanced results. The
core games (Millionnaire, Solitaire, Astro, Vegas, etc.) were up by 6%,
benefiting from the overhauls made in 2008, while complementary and temporary
games suffered a 15% fall.
The key feature of the year was the
launch of a new generation of games -both simple and attractive- that have
proven to be highly appreciated. The launch of Cash 500,000 generated
sales of 133 million tickets in 9 months (663 million).
Point of sale games:
Rapido continued to see declining
sales (-5.3% at 1,702 million) following the introduction of the smoking
ban and measures taken to strengthen responsible gaming.
Sports betting: Preparing for the opening
of the market:
After growth of 65% in 2008, sports
betting games have continued to expand, rising by 24% in 2009 to 783
million (including 630 million for fixed-odds betting). Within this
range, which now accounts for 8% of Française des Jeuxs gaming
revenues, and faced with very strong competition from illegal remote gambling,
online betting grew by 61% to 43 million in stakes.
These results are based on the
modernisation of the product offer. In November, the company launched
ParionsSport, a new sports betting range in its network of 24,000 points of
sale, alongside ParionsWeb, a new betting website.
Distribution: priority for
proximity:
In 2009, Française des Jeux
products were distributed via a uniquely extensive local network that accounted
for 96.8% of sales. There are now 36,600 points of sale, including 20,000 for
Loto (+800).
2009 was marked by completion of the
deployment of 25,000 self-service ticket checkers and the signature of an
agreement with Sagem Sécurité for the supply of new-generation
gaming terminals, with the aim of equipping the entire network by the end of
2013.
Sales made via the multimedia
channel rose by 44% to 315 million, accounting for 3.2% of stakes. The
Fdjeux.com website is the leading gaming site for the general public in France,
with 935,000 active players (+28%, representing 200,000 more players than in
2008), as well as being the leading gaming site in terms of customer
satisfaction (source: Harris Interactive 2009 survey).
