Swiss Lotto Lottery Celebrates Its Birthday, Looks Back on 40-Year
Success Story
BASEL, Switzerland (January 7, 2010)
-- Swiss Lotto - Swiss Classic Lotto - celebrates on the 10th January 2009's
40th Birthday. It has evolved over the years become the most popular product,
and most important pillar of Swisslos. Swiss Lotto throughout Switzerland has
so far caused more than 500 people become millionaires and imported more than
five billion francs for charitable status.
Swiss Lotto there since the year
1970, as a joint work of the former Swiss lottery - now
Swisslos and
Loterie Romande. It evolved
from the very beginning, positive and exceeded all expectations. Swiss Lotto is
meanwhile the most popular and top-selling product of Swisslos. "This
development is certainly also due to the innovations that made Swiss Lotto
continuously attractive," says the director of Swisslos, Roger Fasnacht.
The latest innovation - the Extra Game Plus - led Swisslos one last year, what
a lucky winner promptly led to a record profit of over 19 million francs.
Every second Swiss least once a year
playing the lottery. And high jackpots will be delivered on average per head is
a tip. That the hope of winning big is not for nothing is to prove the previous
523 Swiss Lotto millionaires. But even those who do not win, is one of the
winners. For Swiss Lotto has recorded over the years some five billion francs
for charitable projects in the fields of culture, sports, nature and social
affairs. Money that ultimately will benefit every resident, every inhabitant of
this country. For example, when you visit a cultural event or, like Carnival
says: "There is hardly an athlete who has not yet benefited from Swiss
lottery proceeds."
Swisslos is responsible for sales
and marketing of all lotto, lot and sports products in the German-speaking
Swiss cantons, with responsibility in the canton of Ticino and the Principality
of Liechtenstein. It distributes its net income in full to the cantonal
Swisslos funds and funds from sports to support charitable projects in the
fields of culture, sports, nature, social affairs and development aid.

Texas Lottery Commission Approves Powerball®
Rule
AUSTIN, Texas (January 6, 2010) -
The Texas Lottery Commission
today voted 3-0 to approve the new Powerball® game rule. Sales of Powerball tickets in
Texas are expected to begin as early as Sunday, January 31, with the first
Powerball drawing for Texas Lottery® players occurring on Wednesday,
February 3.
The introduction of Powerball in
Texas was made possible by an agreement in principle announced in October 2009
between the Mega
Millions® states and the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) to allow for the sale
of both Mega Millions and Powerball tickets in all U.S. lottery jurisdictions.
Powerball and Mega Millions are the two multi-jurisdictional lottery games
played in the United States and its territories. Mega Millions is currently
played in 12 states, including Texas, with a total population of approximately
161 million. Thirty-one state lotteries, the District of Columbia and the U.S
Virgin
Islands currently participate in
Powerball, with a total population of approximately 130 million.
Powerball Grand/Jackpot prizes begin
at $20 million and increase based on projected sales. There are nine prize
levels, with prizes starting at $3 for matching only the Powerball. Overall
odds of winning any prize are one in 35, and odds of winning the Grand/Jackpot
Prize are one in 195,249,054. Players can opt to play the Power Play®
multiplier feature for an extra $1 per play for a chance to increase their
non-Grand/Jackpot prizes up to 5 times.
The largest advertised jackpot for
Powerball was $365 million in February 2006, while the $370 million Mega
Millions jackpot record was set in March 2007.
Now that the rule has been
approved, the agency can move forward with preparations for
Powerball, said Texas Lottery Commission Deputy Executive Director
Gary Grief. This is an exciting opportunity for the Texas Lottery, our
players and our 16,000-plus licensed retailers around the state. In addition to
allowing Texas players to participate in the Powerball game, our current Mega
Millions game will grow. Because of the significantly increased population base
that will have access to both games, there will be an opportunity for jackpots
to climb faster and to levels not seen before. Most importantly, this will mean
additional revenue for the Foundation School Fund, which supports public
education in our state.

Nebraska Pick 5 Jackpot-Doubler
LINCOLN, Nebraska (January 7, 2010)
- Back by popular demand, the Nebraska Pick 5 Jackpot Doubler promotion begins
on February 1, 2010.
The Jackpot Doubler promotion
doubles the Nebraska Pick 5 jackpot each time it is won during the month of
February. If a player correctly picks all 5 out of 5 numbers for a draw during
the promotion, the winner would receive double the amount of the advertised
jackpot. For example, if the advertised jackpot is $90,000 and all five numbers
for that draw are correctly chosen, the winner would be entitled to $180,000.
Though the
doubler aspect of the promotion only applies to the jackpot
amount, the promotion will continue to apply to all drawings throughout the
month regardless of how many times the jackpot is won.
If a Nebraska Pick 5 jackpot is
never won during the month of February, then the first jackpot won after
February will double. For example, if no jackpot is won in February, but a
Nebraska Pick 5 jackpot is next won on March 5, 2010, that jackpot will be
doubled.
Nebraska Pick 5 is a unique Nebraska
Lottery game: all the proceeds from Nebraska Pick 5 stay in Nebraska, and all
the winning tickets are sold in Nebraska at Nebraska Lottery Lotto game
retailers. The odds of winning the Nebraska Pick 5 jackpot are 1 in 501,942
while the overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 8.

Nebraska Lottery to Offer Mega Millions®
Game
LINCOLN, Nebraska (January 11, 2010)
Starting in March, Nebraska Lottery players will be able to play
Mega Millions, a
multi-state jackpot game currently offered by 12 lotteries across the United
States.
The addition of the Mega Millions
game in Nebraska was made possible by an October 2009 decision of the members
of the Multi-state Lottery
Association (MUSL), which operates the Powerball® game, and Mega
Millions member lotteries to begin a cross-selling arrangement. A hearing was
held in Lincoln on January 5 receive public comment on the proposed regulations
concerning Powerball and the addition of Mega Millions in Nebraska.
Powerball and Mega Millions both
feature large jackpot prizes, but in the past the games have been sold in
separate jurisdictions. The Nebraska Lottery has offered Powerball since July
of 1994. Since then, the Nebraska Lottery has sold more than $483 million worth
of Powerball tickets for Wednesday and Saturday drawings, accounting for 35
percent of total Nebraska Lottery sales of more than $1.39 billion (as of
fiscal year-end on June 30, 2009).
Mega Millions tickets are scheduled
to go on sale at Nebraska Lottery retailers across the state by March 31.
There are many details yet to be decided, but we are excited to add Mega
Millions to our product lineup, said Jim Haynes, Nebraska Lottery
Director. Our research shows that jackpot size is a factor when players
purchase lotto tickets, and we feel our customers will appreciate having two
more chances a week to win a jackpot prize by offering both Powerball and Mega
Millions. Powerball-selling states bordering Nebraska are also planning
to add Mega Millions in the coming months.
Mega Millions holds the record for
the largest recorded U.S. jackpot - $390 million on March 6, 2007. The largest
recorded Powerball jackpot won on a single ticket was sold in Nebraska on
February 18, 2006, when a group of eight coworkers at the ConAgra Foods ham and
corned beef plant in Lincoln split a $365 million jackpot prize.
Each Mega Millions play costs $1.
Players select five white ball numbers from 1 to 56, and one Mega Ball number
from 1 to 46. To win the jackpot prize, which starts at $12 million and grows
each time it is not won, players must match all six winning numbers. Other
prizes in the game range from $2 to $250,000. The odds of winning the jackpot
prize are 1 in 175 million, while the overall odds of winning any prize are 1
in 40.
Mega Millions drawings are held
every Tuesday and Friday at 9:59 p.m. (CT). Winning numbers will be available
at the Nebraska Lottery web site, nelottery.com, and on the Nebraska Lottery
Players Hotline at 1-800-224-LUCK.
Beside the chance to win cash
prizes, Nebraska Lottery players are helping good causes across the state with
every ticket they purchase. The addition of any Nebraska Lottery game
allows us to continue to support the environment, education, the Nebraska State
Fair, and compulsive gamblers assistance, said Haynes.
Since 1993, the Nebraska Lottery has
raised more than $363 million for its beneficiary programs. Every county in
Nebraska has benefited from projects funded by Nebraska Lottery proceeds.

Lottery Proceeds Benefit Education in Every County in South
Carolina
COLUMBIA, South Carolina (January 8,
2010) - Have you ever wondered how lottery proceeds are benefiting students
from your county? The South
Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) website, sceducationlottery.com, has an
updated map of the county distribution of appropriations from the Education
Lottery Account (ELA). Simply select a county to view the funds appropriated to
that county for college scholarships, K-12 programs and county libraries since
SCEL started selling tickets in January 2002.
The South Carolina Commission on
Higher Education, the South Carolina Tuition Grants Commission, the South
Carolina Department of Education and the South Carolina State Library
collaborated with SCEL to compile this information.
SCELs net proceeds are
deposited into the ELA. The General Assembly appropriates ELA proceeds as
follows:
Funding for kindergarten through 12th grade programs is generally based on the
pupil population in each county;
The South Carolina Charter School District first received lottery funds in
academic year 2009;
Scholarship appropriations are used to fund merit- and need-based scholarships
and grants to students who meet the specified eligibility requirements; and
Funding for county libraries is generally based on a formula set by the General
Assembly.
In the year that ended June 30,
2009, more than 97 cents of every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina
Education Lottery is returned to the state in the form of contributions to
education, prizes, retailer commissions and payment to contractors for goods
and services.

Illinois Lottery Launches Chicago Blackhawks® Cash Scratch-off
Ticket
Air hockey tournaments
scheduled across the state to highlight new ticket and give players additional
chances to win cash and prizes
CHICAGO, Illinois (January 13, 2009)
-- The Illinois Lottery
recently launched the Chicago Blackhawks® Cash scratch-off ticket, and is
kicking off 16 air-hockey tournaments across the state through February. The
winner at each event will win $500 in cash and a Blackhawks jersey.
"Air hockey is one of those all
American games that most people have experienced in their lives at one point or
another" said Paul Arnell, director of promotions for the Illinois Lottery.
"The Lottery loves to give people the opportunity to have fun, play some of
their favorite games, and possibly win money at the same time."
At each event, participants aged 18
years or older will place their name on an entry form when they arrive. At the
beginning of the tournament thirty-two players will be randomly selected and
placed in a bracket style format in the order in which they were picked. The
contestants will face-off until the last person standing is crowned the Air
Hockey Star.
