Colorado Lottery Celebrates 25 Years and Nearly $2
Billion Returned to State PUEBLO,
Colorado, USA January 25, 2008) -- The Colorado Lottery marked its 25th anniversary
Friday by announcing that it has distributed nearly $2 billion in proceeds to
the state since 1983. Proceeds from Lottery ticket sales have contributed to
building parks, restoring trails, preserving open space, protecting wildlife
and improving recreational opportunities for citizens statewide. Thanks to
Lottery dollars, Colorado remains a unique place to live and play.
Colorado Lottery
dollars have touched every corner of Colorado from funding a skate park
in the tiny town of Crowley, to developing Cheyenne Mountain State Park in
Colorado Springs, said Gov. Bill Ritter, who accepted a ceremonial
$1.92 billion check from Lottery Director Peggy Gordon on the behalf of the
people of Colorado on Friday. The Lottery has created more than 366
millionaires over the past quarter century. But the real winners are Colorado
businesses, communities and visitors who will reap the benefits of Lottery
proceeds for generations to come. When the
Lottery began, there were three funds designated to receive Lottery
proceeds:
- Capital Construction;
- Conservation Trust Fund; and
- Colorado Division of Parks and
Outdoor Recreation.
As a result of a
constitutional amendment in 1992, the proceeds formula changed to add the Great
Outdoors Colorado Trust Fund (GOCO) to the group of proceeds recipients. In
1999, the proceeds formula changed again, resulting in the following
distribution: up to 50 percent to GOCO; 40 percent for the Conservation Trust
Fund, and 10 percent for the Colorado Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation.
Any spillover after the GOCO cap is reached is distributed to the Public School
Health and Safety Fund. The Lottery has worked hard to
create unique and innovative products to keep customers engaged and provide
strong returns for the state. The Lottery launched sales on January 24, 1983
with just one, $1 Scratch game. Today, the Lottery offers three jackpot games
and more than 30 fun and innovative Scratch games at any one time. That family
of products generated $486.6 million in sales in 2007. Scratch ticket sales
totaled $319.2 million, while Powerball came in second with $105.2 million in
sales. Lotto produced sales of $44.3 million and Cash 5 ended the year with
$18.1 million in sales. Proceeds for 2007 totaled $123.3 million, providing
$53.5 million for GOCO, $49.3 million for the Conservation Trust Fund, $12.3
million for State Parks and $8.2 million for the Public School Health and
Safety Fund. The Lottery has proven to be a
strong asset for the state. I expect that with its continued growth, the agency
will impact the state for 25 years to come, said Gov. Ritter.
To celebrate its 25th birthday, the Lottery is presenting
a 25-week Adventure contest with FOX 31. Participants can guess the Lottery
proceeds Silver Star of the week to win a key that could
open a 27-foot camper trailer, or one of 25 weekly prizes that could net the
winners more than $1 million. For details, please visit
www.silvercelebration.com. The Lottery also launched a special Silver
Anniversary Scratch ticket earlier this month, offering a 34 $25,000
top prizes. That ticket is also the first game in the Lotterys strategy
to move all second-chance drawings to Internet-only entry.

New Report
About the Belgian and Dutch Gambling Markets
LONDON/MUNICH (January 29,
2008) -- Despite many similarities, the Belgian and Dutch gambling markets
differ widely in several aspects. Whereas in the Dutch market a
monopolistic/oligopolistic market structure still
prevails, the Belgian market has for some time already been on the way
step by step to increasing liberalisation. The consulting firm
MECNs new study The Belgian and Dutch Gambling Markets
analyses both markets in detail. Belgium -
the home of the European Union on the way to liberalisation
Recently, more and more European gambling markets have
become more liberalised. Although many experts are keeping a close eye on
markets such as Italy and Spain, other markets such as Belgium are also showing
promising developments. For a long time Belgium has a relatively liberalised
betting and casino market and now is preparing to open its Internet gambling
market also to private providers. If, as planned, the Belgian parliament will
adopt new gambling legislation in 2008, foreign Internet gambling operators
would also be allowed to offer their services in Belgium.
The Netherlands - more private operators than meet the
eye
The Dutch state and some of
its state-controlled operators have always been in the forefront of stopping
any moves toward liberalisation and preventing foreign operators from entering
the Dutch gambling market. But a closer look at the various gambling sectors
reveals that the Dutch market is actually far more liberalised then many
others. For example, several major lotteries are operated by the private
company Novamedia, and a subsidiary of Scientific Games is in charge of horse
race betting (also via Internet). The report
includes: Analysis of all
sectors - The report analyses all sectors of the gambling markets:
lottery, casino, betting, gambling/gaming machines, and Internet gambling.
Market figures - Comprehensive market
data such as market size and development of sales/turnover as well as gross
revenues. Legal and tax information -
Detailed explanation of the current legislation as well as the taxes
imposed. Company profiles - MECN
prepared detailed company profiles of the key market players that include
products, financial figures, and strategic approaches. In total, the report has 63 pages and 36 graphs/exhibits.

Lottery Jackpots, Ticket Sales on the
Rise SACRAMENTO, California, USA
(January 28, 2008) -- For lottery players looking for a really big payoff,
California is the place to be. With no one holding all winning numbers for
either big jackpot game played in California over the weekend, the top prizes
for this weeks games total more than $125 million.
MEGA Millions is played on
Tuesday. Its jackpot will be $73 million. Thats the largest jackpot prize
in North America. SuperLOTTO Plus comes in second on the top prize scoreboard
with $53 million to those who predict all of its six winning numbers. The next
draw for SuperLOTTO Plus is Wednesday. California Lottery officials reported
increased sales as last Saturdays draws neared and expect interest to
intensify this week with two jackpots each offering prizes worth
tens-of-millions. Tickets for both games are available
at the more than 19,000 California Lottery
retail locations. Players may choose to play the California
Combo, which is five Quick Pick tickets for MEGA Millions and five
Quick Pick tickets for SuperLOTTO Plus, all in one transaction.
As jackpots rise, the California Lottery reminds players
that gambling should be fun. Borrowing money to play, spending beyond a
persons budget or using money intended for other purposes can ultimately
lead to significant problems for players and their families. If a player
recognizes that they have a gambling problem or if someone knows of someone who
may have a problem, the California Lottery recommends calling the Problem
Gambling Help Line at 1-800-GAMBLER. More than 95
cents of every Lottery dollar is returned to the community in the form of
contributions to education, prizes and retail commissions. The California
Lottery contributes at least 34 cents of every dollar that players spend on
Lottery products to public education and returns more than 50 percent of sales
to players in the form of prizes. Since its inception in 1985, the Lottery has
contributed more than $20 billion to California schools out of total sales of
nearly $55 billion. Retailers benefit too, earning $3.5 billion in compensation
since 1985. SOURCE: California Lottery.

SAZKA Launches New Internet Portal e-SAZKA for
Odds Betting and the SAZKA Club Loyalty Scheme
No Handling Fee Charged for Bets Prepared on the
e-SAZKA Internet Portal CZECH REPUBLIC
(January 28, 2008) -- The SAZKA joint-stock
company launched new Internet portal e-SAZKA for odds betting and the SAZKA
Club (Klub SAZKA) loyalty scheme today.
"This has been the most
fundamental and most extensive change we have made since March 1996, when we
started to operate odds betting," said JUDr. Ale Huák, Chairman
of the Board of Directors and General Director of SAZKA, a.s. "We want to be
much more active in odds betting than we have been to date; hence we do our
best to meet customer demand by extending our offer significantly. Now they can
prepare their bets at home and place them at terminals or, after registration
in the SAZKA Club, by phone, without paying any handling fee. We offer many
more betting events; the offer of system bets is extending; bettors will be
allowed to spend their bonus points earned in the loyalty scheme on games or
exchange them for attractive rewards at a later time. The e-SAZKA Internet
portal is also prepared for direct betting over the Internet if legislation
allows it. Moreover, we will extend the benefits of the SAZKA Club loyalty
scheme to players of instant and number lotteries or the StarPort gaming system
soon." Bettors may prepare their bets on the
e-SAZKA Internet portal and then, using a bet identifier or a barcode, they can
place their bets at a point of sale that accepts odds bets or if the
bettor is a member of the SAZKA Club loyalty scheme by phone. The
payment for the bet is made either in cash at a terminal or, if the bet is
placed by phone, in a cashless method over the SAZKA Club account. As part of
the introduction campaign, bettors will pay no handling fee if the bets they
place have been prepared in e-SAZKA! While so far
SAZKA has offered no more than 799 betting events a week, the e-SAZKA portal
will offer up to 4,000 betting events a day. The quantities of events picked
per bet, the system bet options and the maximum stake limits per bet have also
been extended significantly.
Even greater
benefits are available for those who register for free in the SAZKA Club
loyalty scheme. In this case, they can also place bets by phone, with the
payment to be made in a cashless method. All registered members of the SAZKA
Club can use the Money Account and the Bonus Point Account of the SAZKA Club.
The SAZKA Club Money Account is designed for
depositing funds in cash at any terminal or by a bank transfer
enabling bettors to pay their future bets. Prizes won will also be credited to
this account, and may be withdrawn in cash at any of approximately 7,000 SAZKA
terminals across the Czech Republic. The SAZKA
Club Bonus Point Account is designed for accumulating bettor's bonus points
earned for registration in the SAZKA Club; for depositing funds in the SAZKA
Club Money Account; for bets placed, depending on bet amount; and for
participation in various marketing campaigns or competitions. Depending on the
number of bonus points earned, the bettor can subsequently use the benefits of
the gold, silver or bronze level of the SAZKA Club membership.
In relation to the launch of the e-SAZKA Internet portal
and the SAZKA Club loyalty scheme, SAZKA is preparing numerous advertising and
marketing activities, in which bettors can win attractive prizes including
trips to a match of the overseas NHL and other attractive events. In the
future, the SAZKA Club benefits will also be extended to other products than
odds betting, i.e. to instant and number lotteries or wagers in the StarPort
gaming system, the central lottery system with interactive video lottery
terminals. Further, more detailed information
on the e-SAZKA Internet portal and the SAZKA Club loyalty scheme is available
