Sale of Polcard to First Data International
ROME, Italy and PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (March 30, 2007)
Lottomatica S.p.A.'s
wholly-owned subsidiary GTECH Corporation,
and Warsaw-based private equity investment advisor Innova Capital Sp. z o.o.,
announced that the companies have agreed to sell their equity stakes in POLCARD
S.A. to First Data International for an enterprise value of approximately
243 million, on a debt-free, cash-free basis, at current exchange rates.
GTECH currently holds a 74.43% controlling equity interest in POLCARD and
25.24% is held by Innova Capital. The remaining 0.3% will be retained by the
Polish Bank Association.
POLCARD is the leading
debit/credit card merchant transaction acquirer, bank-card issuer, and ATM
management company in Poland, with a nationwide retail network of more than
58,000 electronic acquiring devices and well-established relationships with
many of the country's leading card-issuing banks. POLCARD's net revenue for
calendar 2006 was approximately 35 million. The
sale of POLCARD is contingent upon the approval of the Polish Competition and
Consumer Protection Office and other customary closing conditions, and is
expected to be completed by June 30, 2007. GTECH expects the net sale proceeds
will be utilized for general corporate purposes. The
Company does not expect the 2007 - 2009 Strategic Plan presented in January
2007 to be materially impacted by the pending POLCARD transaction.
We are pleased that the market recognized and
appreciated the value we have created with POLCARD. We have worked diligently
to grow and improve its operations and product offerings, said
W. Bruce Turner, Lottomatica S.p.A. CEO
and GTECH President & CEO. Today's announcement is in line with
our overall business strategy to move away from stand-alone commercial services
opportunities. Going forward, our objective in this area is to pursue a lottery
overlay model in which we add complementary commercial services in
jurisdictions where we have existing lottery operations, particularly in
Italy. POLCARD's growth over the
last four years has exceeded our expectations. This is the result of
exceptional performance of the management team, as well as the dynamic
development of electronic transactions in our country, said Krzysztof
Kulig, Innova Capital Partner. Innova will expand on its POLCARD
experience and continue to invest in the financial services sector in Central
and Eastern Europe. First Data

Back Popular Trucks & Bucks Instant
Ticket Trucks &
Bucks Lottery Prizes Include
Seven Ford F-150 4x4 Trucks ALBUQUERQUE, New
Mexico, USA (March 29, 2007) -- The New Mexico
Lottery is bringing back the popular Trucks & Bucks
instant ticket Scratcher game. The $5 game goes
on sale today. Top instant prizes include five shiny
red 2007 Ford F-150 4x4 trucks. Two additional trucks will be given away
in second-chance drawings. To enter the drawings, players
must return non-winning tickets to lottery headquarters.
Valued at $44,000, each truck prize package includes
taxes, title and the first tank of gas paid by the lottery. Cash prizes
total $1.2 million with four top prizes of $5,000.
All net revenues from the
sale of lottery games benefit the Lottery Success Scholarship program, which
provides tuition assistance for New Mexico residents attending the states
public colleges and universities. New Mexico
loves trucks so this game is naturally very popular among players,
said Lottery CEO Tom Romero.
Its a great vehicle to help raise more money to send students to
college who otherwise might not be able to go.
Since its inception in 1996, the Lottery has raised more
than $306 million for college tuition and school construction and repairs in
New Mexico. More than 43,000 students have received Lottery Success
Scholarships in the last decade. Information about Lottery Success
Scholarships is available at
www.nmlottery.com/scholarships.htm.
Elimination-Style Game Trucks & Bucks is an elimination-style
game. Players must scratch off 18 truck ignition key symbols to reveal
dollar amounts or phrases, which then must be eliminated or scratched
away -- from a table of 19 symbols. The last remaining symbol determines any
truck or cash prize. A non-winning ticket can be entered into the
second-chance drawings. The drawings are scheduled
for June 12 and Sept. 5. Non-winning tickets for the first drawing must
be received by the lottery by June 8 at 4:30 p.m. Mountain Time. The
lottery must receive tickets for the second drawing by Aug. 31, 4:30 p.m.
Mountain Time. Tickets can be mailed to or dropped off at lottery
headquarters in Albuquerque. Tickets cannot be left with lottery
retailers. More information about Trucks & Bucks and other lottery
games is available at www.nmlottery.com.

For Education Five Winners Earned Millionaire Status
RALEIGH, North Carolina, USA (March 30, 2007) -- In its
first year of operation, the North Carolina
Education Lottery (NCEL) produced five winners of $1 million or more. That
includes Jackie Alston of Halifax who hit the Powerball jackpot of $74.5
million for the Nov. 29 drawing. The NCEL has paid out more than $432 million
in prizes and grossed over $895 million in sales from March 30, 2006 through
March 29, 2007.

 |
In addition to the $220
million the NCEL has already provided to the State Education Lottery Fund, they
plan to make another transfer in a few weeks when they officially close the
books on the January through March quarter. Theres also an additional
transfer that will be made in June making a total of four transfers for the
fiscal year that ends June 30. We expect the
transfer in a few weeks to bring the total so far to about $300 million
maybe a little more or a little less, said Tom Shaheen, NCEL
executive director. It has been a hugely successful year and we are
thrilled we have been able to raise hundreds of millions of dollars for
education in North Carolina from a revenue stream that never existed until the
lotterys creation. Since March 30,
2006, the NCEL has introduced more than 50 instant scratch-off tickets and
three computerized games-- Powerball was introduced May 30, Carolina Pick
3 on Oct. 6 and Carolina Cash 5 on Oct. 27. To sell those
games, they have partnered with approximately 5800 retailers. Not only did the
NCEL have to train all those retailers, but they also had to conduct background
checks on the retailers; install computer terminals at every location; and set
up an accounting network between the NCEL and the retailers.
It is hard to believe a year is past,
said Shaheen. Weve accomplished so much with the help of a very
hardworking dedicated group of employees, our retail partners, GTECH
Corporation, Wray Ward Laseter and the many state agencies that assisted us
along the way. We have many more exciting things planned for the players, which
I am confident will mean more great things for the state!

BASEL, Switzerland (March 26, 2007) -- In early 2008, the
WLA will choose a host for its 2010 Convention
and Trade Show. This exceptional event takes place every two years and is the
top fixture on the state lottery and sports betting calendar. Expressions of
interest are now invited from member lottery organizations wishing to find out
more about the possibilities of hosting this prestigious event.
Approximately 1,000 delegates from lottery organizations
and the supplier industry around the world are expected to attend the 2010
Convention and Trade Show. Held over four days, the event includes an extensive
business program with world-class keynote speakers and numerous break-out
sessions, key industry association meetings, the world's largest international
trade show, and busy social and partner programs and other networking
opportunities.

 |
Local
benefits Past Conventions have been highly successful not only for
the WLA's members and for the host lottery organizations, but also for the host
cities and regions. Major WLA events promote a better understanding of the
lottery industry through positive media coverage and contacts with local
leaders and communities. Being selected to host a worldwide industry event
inevitably raises an organization's profile both within the industry and in the
local business community. And WLA events help to enhance the image of the host
organizations' cities and regions as well as bringing in millions of dollars to
local businesses. Funding Host
organizations are not required to pay a hosting fee, and events are expected to
balance revenues and costs. Financial risks are carefully managed through a
joint WLA/host budget. The major players in the lottery supplier industry
sponsor WLA events through the WLA Contributors Program.
Regional balance The WLA Convention
and Trade Show has been a biennial event since 2002, when it was hosted by the
Lotteries Commission of South Australia in Adelaide. In 2004, South Africa's
Uthingo Management played host to the WLA's first-ever major event in Africa.
Singapore Pools hosted the 2006 Convention and Trade Show, and the 2008 event
will be hosted by OPAP on the Greek island of Rhodes. While the WLA does not impose a fixed pattern on the regions
hosting its major events, a worldwide organization needs to maintain a regional
balance in the venues selected for major events. As a result, member
organizations from North America, Latin America and Asia Pacific will be given
priority for hosting the 2010 WLA Convention and Trade Show. Organizations from
other regions will of course be very welcome to indicate their interest in
staging other WLA events in due course. Expression of interest Members are now
invited to indicate their interest in hosting the 2010 Convention and Trade
Show to the WLA business office in Basel. The business office will immediately
forward copies of the guideline documents to all interested parties and will
provide all additional information that members may require. The guideline
documents were drawn up several years ago and are updated on regular basis to
reflect best practice with respect to practical aspects of event organization
as well as specific WLA requirements.
Workshop Interested members will then be
invited to attend a full-day workshop during which WLA Management will present
the key aspects involved in the planning and staging of the WLA's most
important event. The workshop will cover topics such as:
- local staffing and
logistics.
- role of the professional
conference organizer.
- convention center, hotels, major
programs, formal meetings and trade show requirements.
- principles of cooperation between
the WLA and the host organization.
- budget, the WLA Contributors
program, local non-lottery sponsors and the Volunteer Program.
Submission of
bids After the workshop, interested lotteries will be asked to
prepare their formal bid applications. Again, the Basel business office will
provide any additional input and advice that members may require.
Evaluation and final decision The WLA
Executive Committee will evaluate all the bids received from members and may
ask bidding organizations to provide further details. The final decision will
be announced in early 2008. Timeline June 15, 2007: deadline for
expression of interest July/August (date to be confirmed): workshop for
interested lotteries October 31, 2007: submission of formal bids End of
January 2008: final decision SOURCE: World Lottery

2006 Czech Republic (April 3,
2007) -- For 2006, the SAZKA joint stock
company posted the highest after-tax earnings ever, nearly CZK 1.703 billion.
Compared to 2005, earnings after tax were up by CZK 147.8 million, i.e. more
than 9.5%.
SAZKA's 2006 revenues were
CZK 10.289 billion, up by CZK 948.7 million year on year, and rose by 10.2%.
The figure was based on higher sales generated by betting and lottery
activities, which amounted to CZK 7.902 billion, as well as higher revenues
from non-lottery activities that are subject to income tax and reached CZK
2.387 billion. "Based on the successful economic
results, the portion of 2006 earnings paid out to shareholders will reach CZK
966.8 million," said JUDr. Ale
Huák, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Manager
of SAZKA, a.s. "This amount will be received by shareholders themselves,
i.e. public associations active in physical education and sports, to fund their
activities. The payout to shareholders increased significantly year on year,
despite the fact that value added tax reduced last year's proceeds to good
causes by CZK 254.7 million." In early 2006,
SAZKA switched to a new more modern on-line system and is currently completing
the replacement of end-user terminals. Given this, SAZKA has become one of the
technologically best equipped betting and lottery companies worldwide. In 2006,
SAZKA launched the optional Royal Game, available for players of the number
lottery Lucky 10, and introduced innovations in the StarPort gaming system,
while some of the company's non-lottery novelties included a sales module and
an option of payments by paying-in slips, and invoice and insurance premium
payments.
In July 2006, SAZKA
restructured the bonds issued on international financial markets in relation to
the construction of multi-purpose SAZKA ARENA. The issue, the first payment of
which was made by SAZKA in January 2007, allowed for a transition from
short-term and medium-term funding to long-term funding, and the optimisation
of the proportions of the debt service, proceeds payments and the structure for
investors, to name a few benefits. BESTSPORT, the
joint stock company that owns and operates SAZKA ARENA, showed preliminary
profit in excess of CZK 100 million for 2006. About SAZKA.a.s. Established in 1956,
SAZKA is the largest lottery operator and the largest nongovernmental provider
of funds to good causes in the Czech Republic. In 1995-2006, SAZKA generated
total after-tax earnings of CZK 13.463 billion and paid out more than CZK
11.117 billion to good causes, particularly in sports and physical
education. SAZKA's only shareholders are public
associations active in physical education and sports. SAZKA is a member of
