MDI Announces
First-Time Hybrid Vehicle Game
Ford Escape Hybrid
Vehicle of the Year -- Gives Lottery Players More Mileage
ALPHARETTA, Georgia, USA (October
23, 2006) With ever-soaring fuel prices putting a crunch on the
ole pocketbook, more and more people are trading in their gas guzzlers
for more efficient Hybrid vehicles.
MDI
Entertainment, a wholly-owned subsidiary of
Scientific Games Corporation (NASDAQ:
SGMS), recognizes this current trend and now offers lottery players a chance to
win a more sensible vehicle with great gas mileage The Ford Escape
Hybrid.
Named the North American Truck of
the Year, the Ford Escape Hybrid is a stylish, full-service SUV, with
low-environmental impact and a higher mile-per-gallon rate than other
traditional SUVs. It was also named Edmunds.com most fuel efficient vehicle for
2006.
Customers deserve a break
on high gas prices, said Steve Saferin, MDI president. And
because of the fuel costs, people are changing their buying habits. We, as an
industry, need to be pro-active in positioning brands and adapting to the
market. So we have the alternative here with the Ford Escape.
As a full Hybrid,
the Escape automatically switches between pure electric, pure gasoline, or
combined operation as driving conditions changes. In stop-and-go traffic, as it
coasts to a stop, its momentum is converted to electrical energy that
re-energizes the battery pack. The gasoline engine cuts off, and the Escape
will run on electric power alone. And, unlike other hybrid vehicles, the Escape
can run in electric mode up to 25 mph.
This is the first
time MDI has offered lotteries the chance to run vehicle games featuring a
Hybrid and we are excited for both the lotteries and their players
not to
mention the environment, Saferin said. We all need to do our
part, but that doesnt mean we cant do so while having some fun.
This is also a chance for lotteries to garner some positive PR out of one of
their games.

first quarter transfer in the history of the GLC, bringing the total raised for
educational programs in the state of Georgia to more than $8.6 BILLION since
the lottery's inception in 1993.

Kansas Lottery Test Marketing Kansas HoldEm
Game
TOPEKA, Kansas, USA (October 20,
2006) -- The Kansas Lottery is the first
lottery in the world to offer its players an on-line game modeled after the
very popular Texas HoldEm poker game. Called Kansas HoldEm, the new
game is being test marketed at a limited number of Lottery retailers in Kansas.
Due to the expense of the
new equipment needed, we are currently limiting the size of the test market to
approximately 100 retailers, said Kansas Lottery Executive Director
Ed Van Petten. The Kansas Lottery
has nearly 1,900 retailers statewide.
The Lottery selected the Kansas
HoldEm test locations using several criteria, the main one being Keno
sales. Like Keno, a player purchases Kansas HoldEm from a Lottery
retailer through a terminal and can watch the draws on a monitor. The game is
played every four minutes from approximately 5 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily.
 |
Kansas HoldEm is a seven-card
poker game in which you combine one or both of the two cards on your ticket
with the five community cards displayed during the drawing to create your best
five-card hand. Your hand then competes against three virtual players
hands displayed during the drawing. If your hand beats the highest ranking
virtual hand, you win. A player can wager from $2 to $10 per draw, and can
purchase up to 10 draws on a single ticket. All plays are Quick Picks. The top
prize on the game is $10,000, which a player can win by wagering $10 and
beating the top virtual high hand with a Royal Flush.
Were always thinking
about ways to keep games fresh and exciting for our players, Van
Petten said. Kansas HoldEm is a new concept, using brand new
technology, based on a poker game that continues to be wildly
popular.
At the Kansas Lotterys
request, Kansas HoldEm was developed by GTECH, the Kansas Lotterys on-line
vendor. The cards are drawn at random using FLEXdraw, GTECHs new
automated draw product. Sales of Kansas HoldEm at select locations
started September 24, 2006. Over the past few weeks, the Lottery held
promotional events in the test market locations to introduce players to Kansas
HoldEm. At these promotions, players were given free plays and could win
prizes. Additional promotional events will be held at some locations in the
near future.
Because Kansas HoldEm
is a pilot program, we are listening very carefully to what our players are
saying about the game; what they like, what they dont like, Van
Petten said. The testing phase of Kansas HoldEm could continue
up to a year before we go statewide with the game.
Sales for the game have
been averaging more than $10,000 a day, and thats with less than 100
retailers participating, Van Petten continued. So far, it
looks like Kansas HoldEm will be a success. In most of the test market
locations, we have seen an incremental increase in sales.

It is an incredible honor
to be awarded the Batchy and Hickey Awards by NASPL. These awards are regarded
as the highest accolade by lottery professionals, said NY Lottery
Director Nancy Palumbo. The
New York Lotterys award-winning advertising and promotional efforts set

NASPL member lotteries for outstanding advertising and business communication
achievements. The Batchy Awards are judged on 7 different categories;

Ontario is a Leader in Lottery Security
TORONTO, Canada (October 25,
2006) -- OLG (Ontario Lottery and Gaming
Corporation) conducts approximately 700 million transactions with lottery
players through our network of retailers, and pays more than $1.2 billion in
prizes every year. Integrity is a core value at OLG and we offer one of the
safest, most secure and most highly regulated products in the world.
It is critical to note that when a retailer/clerk wins a major
prize, OLG conducts an investigation 100 per cent of the time. Each case is
thoroughly investigated by our internal staff. If OLG believes there is a
serious concern with a lottery prize claim, the police are contacted.
Only in four occasions in the past five years did OLG call the
Ontario Provincial Police, and in two of those instances, it was merely for
information purposes.
We continue to stand by the hard-working men and women who
rely on convenience stores for their livelihood, and who like the majority of
the population are by and large honest, dedicated people.
OLG is a Leader in Lottery
Security
The security measures we have
in place meet or exceed measures in place in every other province and almost
every state in the USA. They include:
- Customer-facing information
screens on all lottery terminals, which display a message when a winning ticket
is validated, and play music to tell the customer they've won. A major-prize
win also triggers a different winning tune and a special screen message.
- Lottery terminal freezes that
shut down a terminal completely when a major-prize winning ticket ($50,000 or
more) is validated. OLG staff then calls the retailer and speaks directly to
the winner while they are in the store to provide specific instructions. The
terminal can only be turned back on by our corporate head office.
- In-store self-serve ticket
checkers where customers can check their own tickets electronically to know if
they have won.
- All instant ticket games are
audited by Deloitte & Touche, and Ernst and Young annually reviews the
operations of OLG's lottery gaming system.
- A new Vice President of Security
and Surveillance who is an Ontario Provincial Police Chief has further
strengthened our security and investigations procedures.
Consumer
Protection
While there are a number of security
measures in place there are also steps we recommend consumers take. These
include:
- Always sign the back of your
ticket.
- Check your numbers yourself
either on our website at olg.ca, the winning numbers lists at retail, either on
our customer screens or by asking for a hard copy, on television, or in the
newspapers.
- Make sure you get your ticket
back, with the validation slip.
- OLG is a provincial agency
responsible for province-wide gaming facilities and lottery games, and
generates approximately $2 billion in proceeds for the province to support
hospitals, health care, charities and other important public benefits. With
revenues of $6 billion and more than 20,000 employees and associates, OLG is
one of North America's leading gaming enterprises.
