Lottery Sales Exceed $300 Million for the Fifth Consecutive Fiscal
Year
BATON ROUGE, Louisiana, USA (July 21,
2006) -- The Louisiana Lottery
Corporation announced that it has just completed its fifth consecutive
fiscal year in which sales have exceeded $300 million. In addition, the Lottery
has surpassed the $1.7 billion mark in transfers to the state treasury since
its inception in September 1991.
Lottery sales for the fiscal year ending
June 30, 2006, totaled over $332.1 million, which was $26.6 million over
budget. Total sales from scratch-off tickets were more than $118
million and drawing-style games brought in more than $213 million.

Transfers to the state treasury during the
fiscal year totaled $119.4 million, including a $2.7 million surplus from
operational efficiencies and sales increases. The treasury transfer for June
was $11,937,660.
In accordance with the state's
constitution, Lottery proceeds are dedicated to the Minimum Foundation Program,
which funds public education in Louisiana.
Lottery President
Rose Hudson credited much of the year's
success to the Lottery's retailers and a resourceful and hard-working Lottery
sales team, especially considering the challenges brought about by Hurricanes
Katrina and Rita.
"The Louisiana Lottery is extremely
pleased with these results and our contribution toward fulfilling our mission
to maximize revenue for the state while ensuring the highest level of public
trust," said Hudson.
Also during the fiscal year, the Lottery
received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting
for the eighth straight year from the Government Finance Officers Association
(GFOA) of the United States and Canada.
Under state law, the treasury department
receives 35 percent of every $1 in Lottery sales. At least half of all Lottery
revenue is used to fund prizes. Retailers receive more than 5 percent of sales,
with less than 10 percent retained by the Lottery for operating costs.
The Louisiana Lottery ranks fourth out of
40 jurisdictional Lotteries in percentage of sales transferred to its
government and first among lotteries of its size.
Hudson reiterated that all ticket
purchasers must be at least 21 years of age and that anyone with a gambling
problem, or friends of anyone with a gambling problem, are encouraged to call
toll-free 1-877-770-7867.

One Thousand Extra Prizes to Celebrate 1,000th Draw Lotto
Offers All Players More Than 1,000 Extra Prizes to Celebrate 1,000th
Draw
NEW ZEALAND (July 23, 2006) -- Lotto
players across New Zealand will be in to win an amazing 1,100 extra prizes as
NZ Lotteries celebrates the game's 1,000th draw
on Saturday 5 August, says NZ Lotteries Chief Executive Todd McLeay.
"The 1,000th Lotto draw is a huge
milestone for us and our loyal players, many of whom have been buying tickets
since Lotto's first draw on Saturday 1 August 1987.
"What better way to reward them, and
say a very big thank you, than by offering all of our players, regardless of
the type of Lotto ticket they buy, the chance to win more than 1,000 extra
prizes," says Todd.
In addition to our usual divisional
prizes, all players who purchase a Lotto ticket between Sunday 23 July 2006 and
Saturday 5 August will be in with the chance to win one of 1,100 extra
prizes.
"This includes 100 major prizes ranging
from $10,000 to a top prize of $1 million which will be drawn on 5 August, the
night of the 1,000th draw.
The top 100 prizes comprise: 1 prize of $1
million 3 prizes of $100,000 5 prizes of $50,000
6 prizes of $25,000 85 prizes of $10,000
"If that's not enough, we'll be
rewarding many, many more players by offering the remaining 1,000 prizes
randomly to players in the two-week period leading up to the draw.
"When they buy their Lotto ticket
winners of this prize will find out immediately that they have won $1,001 and
will be assisted to fill in a Prize Claim Form to claim it.*
"Under our rules Lotto players who win
$1,000 or less get paid in cash, but with the number of prizes on offer with
this promotion we decided it would be easier for everyone if we co-ordinate
payment from one point, which is why they will get the extra dollar," says
Todd.

"Many of our players who took part in
our first draw are still playing today, and it is the sales generated by those
people and other players which has allowed NZ Lotteries to transfer more that
$2 billion for the Lottery Grants Board for distribution to the community since
our first draw in 1987.
"The 1,000th draw is all about saying
thank you, as well as celebrating our past winners and the difference Lotto has
made to New Zealand communities," says Mr McLeay.
NOTE: * A prize of $1000
and under will be paid directly to the winner as cash by a retailer, while a
prize over $1000 is paid through NZ Lotteries Wellington's office directly into

Iowa Lottery Sales, Proceeds To State Programs Set
Records
DES MOINES, Iowa, USA (July 25, 2006) -
Iowa Lottery sales and profits to the state set records in its latest fiscal
year, fueled by increases in sales of Powerball, instant-scratch and TouchPlay
tickets.
Preliminary figures released Wednesday
show that lottery sales totaled $339.5 million in fiscal year 2006, which ended
June 30. That was up more than 60 percent from FY 2005 sales of $210.7 million
and marked the highest sales total for Iowas lottery since its start in
1985. The lottery's previous sales record of $210.7 million had been set just a
year earlier.
The unaudited figures show the lottery
raised $80.7 million in revenues for state programs during FY 2006, an increase
of about 58 percent from the previous year. The lottery's previous record for
proceeds to the state was set in FY 1995, when $58.2 million was raised for
state programs.
Dr. Ed
Stanek, chief executive officer of the Iowa
Lottery Authority, said that while the past fiscal year was extremely
successful in terms of lottery sales, the lottery continues to investigate
innovative ideas for future products. Stanek noted that the Iowa Lottery's
Lucky 7's game that combined instant-scratch and pull-tab
games into a double-sided ticket won a lottery product of the year
award at a gaming conference in early July in Las Vegas.
Through the years, the lottery
has found success by offering variety in our products and concentrating on
entertainment for our players, Stanek said. We'll continue
that focus to ensure strong lottery revenues for the programs that benefit all
Iowans.
Stanek also noted that on Monday, the
lottery will release the third version of its electronic game card product,
which received two awards for lottery product of the year in 2005. The Iowa
Lottery was the first in the world to introduce the game card, a
battery-powered version of the traditional instant-scratch ticket. A market
test of the game card that began in October 2004 proved successful and $20
Quarter Play cards were introduced statewide in May 2005.
The new game card, called Pocket Poker, will begin to be distributed statewide
Monday by lottery sales representatives.
Changes introduced in the Powerball game
in August 2005 were reflected in the Iowa Lottery's strong 2006 results, with
Powerball sales in Iowa increasing more than 31 percent to $71.1 million.
Powerball jackpots today begin at $15 million compared to $10 million in years
past, and the prize for matching the first five numbers but missing the
Powerball has doubled to $200,000. Two white balls have been added to the first
pool of numbers in Powerball drawings, meaning players choose five numbers from
55. Players will continue to select the Powerball from a pool of 42.

 |
Sales of instant-scratch tickets, the
first product introduced by the Iowa Lottery and always one of its sales
leaders, also were up in FY 2006 compared to a year earlier, increasing more
than 3 percent to $106.6 million.
Net revenue from TouchPlay
machines totaled $121.4 million in FY 2006, compared to $6.4 million a year
earlier. The TouchPlay project ended in May.
Iowa Lottery revenues are deposited in the
state general fund, where they are used to pay for a variety of programs. Some
of the programs that receive money from the general fund include education,
natural resources, health and family services and public safety.
Since the Iowa Lottery's inception in
1985, more than $2 billion has been awarded in prizes and more than $1 billion
has been raised for state programs.
