Lottery Sales Exceed $300 Million for the Fifth Consecutive Fiscal Year

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana, USA (July 21, 2006) -- The Louisiana Lottery Corporation announced that it has just completed its fifth consecutive fiscal year in which sales have exceeded $300 million. In addition, the Lottery has surpassed the $1.7 billion mark in transfers to the state treasury since its inception in September 1991.

Lottery sales for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2006, totaled over $332.1 million, which was $26.6 million over budget.  Total sales from scratch-off tickets  were more than $118 million and drawing-style games brought in more than $213 million.

Transfers to the state treasury during the fiscal year totaled $119.4 million, including a $2.7 million surplus from operational efficiencies and sales increases. The treasury transfer for June was $11,937,660.

In accordance with the state's constitution, Lottery proceeds are dedicated to the Minimum Foundation Program, which funds public education in Louisiana.

Lottery President Rose Hudson credited much of the year's success to the Lottery's retailers and a resourceful and hard-working Lottery sales team, especially considering the challenges brought about by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

"The Louisiana Lottery is extremely pleased with these results and our contribution toward fulfilling our mission to maximize revenue for the state while ensuring the highest level of public trust," said Hudson.

Also during the fiscal year, the Lottery received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the eighth straight year from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada.

Under state law, the treasury department receives 35 percent of every $1 in Lottery sales. At least half of all Lottery revenue is used to fund prizes. Retailers receive more than 5 percent of sales, with less than 10 percent retained by the Lottery for operating costs.

The Louisiana Lottery ranks fourth out of 40 jurisdictional Lotteries in percentage of sales transferred to its government and first among lotteries of its size.

Hudson reiterated that all ticket purchasers must be at least 21 years of age and that anyone with a gambling problem, or friends of anyone with a gambling problem, are encouraged to call toll-free 1-877-770-7867.

BOISE, Idaho, USA (July 21, 2006) -- Governor James E. Risch has appointed Lydia Justice-Edwards to fill the vacant seat on the Idaho Lottery Commission.  The appointment will be effective beginning August 1, 2006 and will run until January 1, 2010.

Lydia has a long and distinguished history of serving the people of Idaho.  I appreciate her willingness to continue working on behalf of our school children on the Idaho Lottery Commission,” said Risch.

A long time Donnelly resident, Justice-Edwards served the State of Idaho previously in the House of Representatives from 1983 – 1987 from District 9.  Her work on the House Transportation Committee was instrumental in developing the Horseshoe Bend hill project. The judges said they were impressed with Dianne’s strategy for bucking the international trend of falling lottery sales, which has delivered the longest period of growth in the National Lottery’s history.

The awards citation for Dianne said: “One of her most successful projects has been Camelot’s pioneering of EuroMillions, a new mega-jackpot game bringing together 10 lotteries in 9 countries.

She chairs the Childline Foundation fund-raising committee, and has committed to personally raising £1 million for the charity.

Dianne said: “The European Woman of Achievement Awards have a history of recognising some of the world’s most inspirational women, and I feel honoured to be in their company.

But this award is not just for me – it’s for the remarkable team I have at Camelot who have helped to push annual sales over the £5 billion mark.

Dianne joined Camelot in 1997 as Commercial Operations Director – the first woman Executive Director on the company’s board. She took over as Chief Executive in December 2000.

Dianne has driven a programme of innovation at Camelot which has helped to transform the company and drive lottery sales. Under her supervision the company has launched new games such as EuroMillions and Dream Number, and pioneered National Lottery sales on interactive platforms including www.national-lottery.co.uk, Sky Active and Play by Text on mobile phones.

Dianne is now leading Camelot’s bid for the third lottery licence. She said: “We’re aiming to submit a bid which really captures the public imagination and delivers the best return to the Good Causes.

Dianne sits on the Press Complaints Commission and is a member of the CBI President’s Committee. In February 2006 she was appointed as a Non-Executive Director of Domino’s Pizza UK & IRL plc. She received a CBE for services to business in the 2006 New Year Honours.

One Thousand Extra Prizes to Celebrate 1,000th Draw
Lotto Offers All Players More Than 1,000 Extra Prizes to Celebrate 1,000th Draw

NEW ZEALAND (July 23, 2006) -- Lotto players across New Zealand will be in to win an amazing 1,100 extra prizes as NZ Lotteries celebrates the game's 1,000th draw on Saturday 5 August, says NZ Lotteries Chief Executive Todd McLeay.

"The 1,000th Lotto draw is a huge milestone for us and our loyal players, many of whom have been buying tickets since Lotto's first draw on Saturday 1 August 1987.

"What better way to reward them, and say a very big thank you, than by offering all of our players, regardless of the type of Lotto ticket they buy, the chance to win more than 1,000 extra prizes," says Todd.

In addition to our usual divisional prizes, all players who purchase a Lotto ticket between Sunday 23 July 2006 and Saturday 5 August will be in with the chance to win one of 1,100 extra prizes.

"This includes 100 major prizes ranging from $10,000 to a top prize of $1 million which will be drawn on 5 August, the night of the 1,000th draw.

The top 100 prizes comprise:
• 1 prize of $1 million
• 3 prizes of $100,000
• 5 prizes of $50,000
• 6 prizes of $25,000
• 85 prizes of $10,000

"If that's not enough, we'll be rewarding many, many more players by offering the remaining 1,000 prizes randomly to players in the two-week period leading up to the draw.

"When they buy their Lotto ticket winners of this prize will find out immediately that they have won $1,001 and will be assisted to fill in a Prize Claim Form to claim it.*

"Under our rules Lotto players who win $1,000 or less get paid in cash, but with the number of prizes on offer with this promotion we decided it would be easier for everyone if we co-ordinate payment from one point, which is why they will get the extra dollar," says Todd.

"Many of our players who took part in our first draw are still playing today, and it is the sales generated by those people and other players which has allowed NZ Lotteries to transfer more that $2 billion for the Lottery Grants Board for distribution to the community since our first draw in 1987.

"The 1,000th draw is all about saying thank you, as well as celebrating our past winners and the difference Lotto has made to New Zealand communities," says Mr McLeay.

NOTE: * A prize of $1000 and under will be paid directly to the winner as cash by a retailer, while a prize over $1000 is paid through NZ Lotteries Wellington's office directly into the winners bank account (or by cheque if requested)

Tipos Players Will Never be Poisoned by This Mushroom!

SLOVAKIA (July 25, 2006) -- Instant game Muchotrávka is a classical instant lottery with money prizes. It has been launched by TIPOS, National Lottery Company, Joint-stock company, Slovakia.

The price for an instant ticket is 20 SKK and the period of sale is from 29th May 2006 to 28th May 2007. The period for the drawing of winners is up 27th July 2007.

Payout for this lottery was settled at 62%. The name Muchotrávka in translation means ‘toadstool’ and this creates the idea: you will never be poisoned by this mushroom! In our opinion, this ambiguous and smart name, along with the slogan, could stimulate players’ interest.

The game has a very bright, colourful design, which we hope will also contribute to

successful sales. The game ticket contains one playing field. The amount of the prize is marked by three identical amounts or symbols.

If the player finds three identical symbols of the toadstool, he wins a top prize of 200 000

SKK. This sum of money will be paid out at the head office of TIPOS Company.

Sales of this game from the start have exceeded our expectations; in comparison with similar games this is very good.

On June 7th 2006 TIPOS, Slovak National Lottery Company, Joint Stock Company,

introduced the first internet casino in Slovakia. On the website www.tipos.sk under the

gaming room „eCasino“ there are five games – Roulette, Poker, Blackjack, 3 Reel Slot and 5

Reel Slots. Later this year, Multiplayer Poker will be added. eCasino gaming room includes two modules for each game - Play for Fun and Play for Money. Gaming room doesn’t require downloading. Registered players will be awarded with

an entry bonus of 25 %.

eCasino caused a massive boom from the start. During the first month of service, almost 700 000 games (for money) were played and sales figures exceeded first year’s plans. Average payout is higher than 94 %.

The launch of internet casino is the next step in TIPOS´ activities in the interactive gaming area. The gaming web page www.tipos.sk covers lotteries (eTip), sports betting (e-Kurz), online scratch games (Tipclub) and fast Keno (eKlubKeno). Since November 2004, 20 000 players have registered on www.tipos.sk.

Iowa Lottery Sales, Proceeds To State Programs Set Records

DES MOINES, Iowa, USA (July 25, 2006) - Iowa Lottery sales and profits to the state set records in its latest fiscal year, fueled by increases in sales of Powerball, instant-scratch and TouchPlay tickets.

Preliminary figures released Wednesday show that lottery sales totaled $339.5 million in fiscal year 2006, which ended June 30. That was up more than 60 percent from FY 2005 sales of $210.7 million and marked the highest sales total for Iowa’s lottery since its start in 1985. The lottery's previous sales record of $210.7 million had been set just a year earlier.

The unaudited figures show the lottery raised $80.7 million in revenues for state programs during FY 2006, an increase of about 58 percent from the previous year. The lottery's previous record for proceeds to the state was set in FY 1995, when $58.2 million was raised for state programs.

Dr. Ed Stanek, chief executive officer of the Iowa Lottery Authority, said that while the past fiscal year was extremely successful in terms of lottery sales, the lottery continues to investigate innovative ideas for future products. Stanek noted that the Iowa Lottery's “Lucky 7's” game that combined instant-scratch and pull-tab games into a double-sided ticket won a “lottery product of the year award” at a gaming conference in early July in Las Vegas.

Through the years, the lottery has found success by offering variety in our products and concentrating on entertainment for our players,” Stanek said. “We'll continue that focus to ensure strong lottery revenues for the programs that benefit all Iowans.

Stanek also noted that on Monday, the lottery will release the third version of its electronic game card product, which received two awards for lottery product of the year in 2005. The Iowa Lottery was the first in the world to introduce the game card, a battery-powered version of the traditional instant-scratch ticket. A market test of the game card that began in October 2004 proved successful and $20 “Quarter Play” cards were introduced statewide in May 2005. The new game card, called Pocket Poker, will begin to be distributed statewide Monday by lottery sales representatives.

Changes introduced in the Powerball game in August 2005 were reflected in the Iowa Lottery's strong 2006 results, with Powerball sales in Iowa increasing more than 31 percent to $71.1 million. Powerball jackpots today begin at $15 million compared to $10 million in years past, and the prize for matching the first five numbers but missing the Powerball has doubled to $200,000. Two white balls have been added to the first pool of numbers in Powerball drawings, meaning players choose five numbers from 55. Players will continue to select the Powerball from a pool of 42.

Sales of instant-scratch tickets, the first product introduced by the Iowa Lottery and always one of its sales leaders, also were up in FY 2006 compared to a year earlier, increasing more than 3 percent to $106.6 million.

Net revenue from TouchPlay machines totaled $121.4 million in FY 2006, compared to $6.4 million a year earlier. The TouchPlay project ended in May.

Iowa Lottery revenues are deposited in the state general fund, where they are used to pay for a variety of programs. Some of the programs that receive money from the general fund include education, natural resources, health and family services and public safety.

Since the Iowa Lottery's inception in 1985, more than $2 billion has been awarded in prizes and more than $1 billion has been raised for state programs.
