Norsk Tipping Receives 2004 Classic Design Award for Company Logo

Norsk Tipping LogoNORWAY (November 26, 2004) -- The State Lottery in Norway, Norsk Tipping, redesigned their Logo in 1990. This week the Norwegian Design Council awarded Norsk Tipping a highly prestigious award for this logo. The Classical Design Award is given to designs that have lasted for more than ten years.

The jury’s reasoning for awarding the Classic Design award to Norsk Tipping is as follows:

"Norsk Tipping’s logo has become an iconic symbol that is as powerful today as when it was first introduced in 1990. At the time, the competitive situation in the gaming industry was evolving and Norsk Tipping was expanding from the football pools to offering a variety of other gaming alternatives. The colours used for the logo symbolise the diversity of gaming alternatives, and the design contributed to establishing the company as a serious, credible and reliable actor in the new market situation. The X in the logo symbolises the unknown. The design is timeless, and the use of primary colours makes it highly visible in all contexts and situations in which it is used."

Bjørn Rybakken at Tangram Design is the person behind the logo for Norsk Tipping in 1990 and described the design process as follows:

"Norsk Tipping had to redesign its logo when Lotto arrived. They needed a consistent expression to symbolise its evolving multi-faceted business. I chose the X, or two intersecting lines as the starting point, both because it represents the unknown, and because it is the mark you make when filling out the lotto and other gaming coupons. The strong primary colours symbolise joy, and are also unaffected by fashion trends."

Norsk Tipping and the design agency Tangram were awarded the prestigious award at Design Day on 25 November 2004.

"Dream Africa"- A success!

Article By Geir André Bakke, Corporate Affairs Advisor, Norsk Tipping AS

WLA President
President of the WLA, Reidar Nordby Jr. address' conference delegates

(November 26, 2004) -- The 5th annual global gathering of the World Lottery Association (WLA) hosted by Uthingo Management rightfully carried the name "Dream Africa". My general impression is that the congress was very well planned, that the infrastructure worked well, although we had some security challenges. Lots of delegates meant it was the best business program ever, says President of the WLA, Reidar Nordby Jr.

The congress was held in Durban, South Africa, from the 14th to 19th November and was hosted by the South African National Lottery, Uthingo. During six days, more than 900 delegates learned more about selected topics crucial to the lottery industry. Growth, Innovation and Reputation were the themes of the Business Program, emphasising the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a competitive asset in many of the keynotes and workshops.

The Business Program was very well received by the delegates and I have never experienced this much positive feedback in former WLA Congresses, says Nordby. Still, the President will not conclude on the Business Program before the surveys conducted among the delegates, has been evaluated.

Nordby praised the host in showing clear examples of Corporate Social Responsibility in practice. The Uthingo Management has funded prize worthy beneficiaries like hospitals and schools for poor children, AIDS victims etc. As an appreciation of the strong vizualisation of the lottery mission in SA, and their generous hospitality and friendship expressed, the WLA has initiated a fundraising among the association members to a similar course in the Durban area.

The member companies have been invited to contribute on a voluntary basis to express the WLA's gratitude to Uthingo's perspective on social responsibility in the gaming industry and as lasting memory of an outstanding congress. So far 25.000 Euros has been raised (Approximately 200 000 Rands).). I am confident we will reach the goal of at least one million Rands, says Nordby.

At the WLA General Meeting on November 18 Reidar Nordby, was re-elected as President of the Association, and a new Executive Committee was selected.

The new Committee is as follows:

Moreover, Professor K. Voudouris ENISA Board Member (European Network and Information Security Agency) focused his speech on the European Union which has already taken firm steps to fight harmful and illegal content on the internet, protect intellectual property and personal data, promote electronic commerce, protect electronic signatures to enhance the security of transactions, and to improve the security of information infrastructures. He underlined that the challenge for ENISA is to deliver high EU-wide level of security in electronic communications, and to further contribute to the establishment of a "culture of security", necessary for the single market to deliver its full benefits to European citizens, consumers, enterprises and public sector bodies. This culture should combine the rapid and responsible take-up of technical innovation with good security practices.

AIT is a world class education and research centre founded in 2001 by Intracom and INTRALOT. Placing great emphasis on education, AIT has an agreement with Carnegie Mellon University to operate a joint Carnegie Mellon-AIT Master in Information Networking (MSIN) Program.

Find Out the Story Behind Lotterywest's New Advertisements

PERTH, Western Australia (November 22, 2004) -- Lotterywest has just released two of its three new corporate advertisements showcasing the diversity of groups supported by Lotterywest. The two groups featured so far are Veterans Support Group & LINCS, and Fishers with Disabilities. Keep an eye out for the third!

Honouring the MemoryLest Aboriginal Veterans Lie Forgotten

There is a certain irony in the phrase ‘Lest we Forget’ which is so strongly associated with Australian and New Zealand War Veterans, especially when many Aboriginal veterans lie in unmarked graves.

Olivetti Tecnost

With some 400 deceased Aboriginal veterans in Western Australia, who prior to 1967 were not recognised as citizens, very few have been honoured for their war service. This is particularly so for families of the ‘stolen’ generation where the forced removal of their children has broken the song lines of generations. Other than a faint trail through dusty archives in long forgotten files the memory of the previous generation’s service history is buried and for the most part, unacknowledged.

Honouring the Memory’ is a project initiated by the WA Veterans Support Group to link Aboriginal veterans and their families and support them in researching and documenting their service history. With the support of a Lotterywest grant, the project has focussed on the ceremonial laying of headstones which acknowledge deceased Aboriginal veterans. The ceremonies, which pay tribute to their service history have engendered family pride and laid the foundation for building trust, partnership and unity within the community.

"Honouring the Memory’ has affected not only those committed to the reconciliation process but all kinds of people. Lotterywest has provided an initial grant of approximately $73,000 as well as given an ‘in-principal’ agreement to support the project with over $210,000 over the next three years. This has enabled a process of real education and respect to begin at all levels allowing individuals, families, communities and Government to appreciate how past Aboriginal and veteran policies have impacted on the lives of Aboriginal people today.

Honouring the Memory’ pays tribute to the unsung heroes in our community and Lotterywest is proud to support this project which appropriately honours Aboriginal veterans and their families – Lest we forget.

Fish Tales

Tales about fishing, especially the ones that got away, have been with us forever. While most people have a fishing tale to tell, the experience of meditating over a line in the water has, until recently, been the stuff of dreams for people with disabilities.

Thanks to the dream of Neville Thomas and the support of a Lotterywest grant, dreams of fishing for some people with disabilities are now a reality. A keen fisherman himself, Neville was determined to share his joy of fishing with people who could not cast or reel in a fishing line, because of mobility or motor skill difficulties.

Advertiser

Neville developed a series of custom-built fishing rods with casting devices operated by electromagnet or sling shot mechanisms. His inventiveness in creating rods that could be operated by knocking, tilting or blowing, meant that people with mobility issues could participate in the thrill of fishing.

In collaboration with the Rotary Club of Dalkeith and the support of Volunteer Fisheries Liaison Officers, Neville was successful in applying for a Lotterywest grant to produce a series of custom built rods and run fishing workshops for people with disabilities. The model for running the fishing clinics developed out of the Department of Fisheries’ Volunteer Fisheries Liaison Officer Program and was organised jointly with Kids Camps, the WA Disabled Sports Association, and the Selby Recreational Service, a division of the Paraplegic-Quadriplegic Association of WA.

The success of the initiative has increased demand for the program, which has enabled over 1,000 people with disabilities to participate in recreational fishing over the past three years. Since supporting the development of the rods, Lotterywest has also supported the construction of a purpose built trailer to transport the fishing equipment as well as the coordination of workshops throughout the State which provides access to recreational fishing for people with disabilities living in regional areas.

The overwhelming demand for the program has required an increased focus on the development of volunteers, resources and programs, which have lead to the development of the newly incorporated ‘Fishers With Disabilities Association.

Most recently, Lotterywest has supported the new Association with the fabrication and fit-out of a 6.5 meter flat-bottomed boat designed for ease of access to accommodate people in wheelchairs. The boat will be used for weekly workshops on the Swan River and estuary.

This fish tale gives you a glimpse of some of the wonderful initiatives in our community which give all people the opportunity to access some of the simple pleasures that so many of us take for granted.

Now, thanks to EGET’s solution, the first for a licensed lottery operator anywhere, players may also enjoy the same games on mobile.
