Court Rules VLTs Not Slot Machines
NEW YORK, USA (May 3, 2005) -- The state's highest court has given the go-ahead for video lottery terminals (VLTs).
The Court of Appeals on Tuesday ruled VLT's are not slot machines as defined by state law but a form of a lottery game that is allowed in the state.
The judges also said the way a portion of VLT revenues are being shared with horse breeders operating at the race tracks with VLT parlors is an authorized splitting of fees from lottery proceeds.
