Ed Van Petten was named Executive Director of the Kansas
Lottery, effective October 1, 2000. Prior to his appointment, he served for
approximately five and one-half months as the Lottery Deputy Director.
Before joining the Kansas Lottery, Van Petten served as
deputy disciplinary administrator for the state of Kansas. His career with the
state of Kansas has also included appointments as: deputy attorney general;
chief of the Criminal Division; associate general counsel, office of the
Securities Commissioner; and assistant attorney general, Kansas Bureau of
Investigation.
In 1980, Van Petten was elected county attorney for
Waubaunsee County, Kansas. He served from January 1979 to October 1985. He
practiced law in the private sector in Eskridge, Kansas from 1979 to 1985 and
in Wamego, Kansas from 1993 to 1996.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1975 from
Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas and his juris doctorate in 1979
from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.
