Biography: Tan Soo Nan, Chief
Executive Officer of Singapore Pools
(Private) Limited.
Mr Tan Soo Nan is the Chief Executive Officer of
Singapore Pools (Private) Limited, a
subsidiary of the Singapore Totalisator Board. Singapore Pools was incorporated
by the Singapore Government to provide a legal avenue for betting. Operation
surpluses from Singapore Pools are channelled towards worthy causes that serve
the needs of the community. Through its comprehensive community funding
programme, Singapore Pools have contributed significantly to community welfare.
Before joining Singapore Pools on 1 August 2002, Mr
Tan was the Chief Executive Officer of Temasek Capital (Private) Limited
looking after all direct investments, both locally and overseas for Temasek
Holdings, the investment holding arm of the Singapore Government.
Prior to the period at Temasek Capital (from June 2000
to July 2002), Mr Tan was the Senior Managing Director of DBS Bank. In this
role he was overseeing the Institutional Banking, Individual Banking,
Enterprise Banking and the Private Client Group businesses of DBS Bank. He was
also a member of the Banks Policy Committee, which was the Banks
most senior communications and decision-making forum. In his 29 years with DBS
Bank, his career spanned the entire spectrum of commercial banking, investment
banking, asset management and venture capital.
He was on the board of many companies including DBS
subsidiaries and associated financial companies in Hong Kong, Indonesia,
Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand. Besides his directorships, he had over the
years served on many committees including committees of the Stock Exchange of
Singapore (now known as Singapore Exchange Ltd), Public Sector Divestment
Committee and Legal Services Review Committee.
Mr Tan is presently a trustee of the Singapore
Totalisator Board SCO Trust and is a member of the Income Tax Board of Review
and Goods and Services Tax Board of Review. He also sits on the board of
several private and public listed companies.
Mr Tan graduated from The University of Singapore with
Degree of Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours (Second Class
Honours, Upper Division) in 1971 and became an Associate of The Chartered
Institute of Bankers in 1976. He completed the Harvard Business Schools
Program for Management Development in 1982. Mr Tan is married and has two
children.
