Sisal is the private company that introduced betting games in Italy and based on these developed the contemporary market for gaming, gaming offices and betting slips. As the concessionaire of the Ministry of Finance for the management of games and services, Sisal earned for the State the greatest revenues at the lowest possible cost. In 1946, it invented the Sisal game (later called Totocalcio) and in 1948, it introduced Totip, the only horse race betting, whose popularity did much to promote horse race betting. In 1991, Sisal offered Tris betting in its offices to enormous success.
In 1997, Sisal devised a new formula for the Enalotto lottery and proposed it to the Ministry of Finance. Thus was born SuperEnalotto, a media phenomenon and a popular hit without precedent.
In 2000, it obtained the concession to manage Formula 101, a tote bet on Formula 1 world auto racing.
As requested from UNIRE and the actual operator, starting from the 4th November 2002, you can find TRIS in all Sisal's OTB's. (Offtrack-betting- shops)
At present Sisal has a network of 18,000 betting points with 20,000 state-of-the-art on-line terminals, through which it collects approximately EUR 2.582.284.495,45 for games, of which EUR 1.032.913.798,18 go to the State.
