Kansas Lottery is First in the World to Offer
PushPlay
TOPEKA, Kansas (April 24, 2009) --
The Kansas Lottery is the first lottery in
the world to offer its players a next generation lottery product called
PushPlay. The Lottery is shipping out PushPlay game cards this week to all
retailers that have requested them.
PushPlay game cards are instant
lottery tickets, but instead of scratching off the tickets, a player uses a
reusable electronic player with an LCD screen to display the game. A player
will insert or push the card into the player, and then
play the game thus the name PushPlay.
The Kansas Lottery is proud
to have another first in the lottery industry, said
Kansas Lottery Executive Director Ed
Van Petten. Players are looking for additional entertainment value
with their lottery games, and the PushPlay game cards deliver that.
During the play of a PushPlay game
card, players accumulate points that are displayed on the
LCD screen after each play. The total points will determine the prize won. As
is the case with any instant ticket, the game can also be validated and cashed
without being played. Players can win up to $1,000 on each game card. As with
any instant game, all prizes are pre-determined.
A PushPlay combination pack sells
for $20 and contains the reusable electronic player and four game cards, two
each of Yahtzee and Lucky 7s. Players who wish to play additional game cards
can purchase them separately for $5 each.
PushPlay game cards were developed
by Scientific Games International. The
initial release includes 120,000 combination packs and 480,000 $5 Yahtzee and
Lucky 7s replacement tickets.

Virginia Lottery Named PRSA Silver Anvil
Finalist
RICHMOND, Virginia (April 19, 2009)
-- The Virginia Lottery announced today
that it, along with the Virginia Parent Teachers Association (PTA), The Supply
Room Companies and Qorvis Communications, has been named a 2009 Public
Relations Society of America (PRSA) Silver Anvil finalist for its 2008
Super Teacher awards program. The Virginia Lottery was selected as
one of 126 finalists out of nearly 900 entries nationwide, and is one of only
two organizations from the state of Virginia to receive this honor.
This is the first time the Virginia
Lottery has been nominated for a national PRSA award. The prestigious Silver
Anvil award recognizes outstanding achievement in strategic public relations
and is considered the highest mark of success in the industry. Candidates for
the Silver Anvil have positively affected public opinion through the work of
successful public relations campaigns. The Virginia Lottery will compete
against other finalists for Best Community Relations program developed by a
government organization for its Super Teacher award program.
This announcement comes at
an exciting time for the Virginia Lottery, as we celebrate our 20th
birthday, said Paula Otto,
Virginia Lottery Executive Director. Being named as a finalist is not
only a win for us and our talented communications team, but also a wonderful
acknowledgement for the hard work of teachers throughout
Virginia.
The Virginia Lottery developed the
Super Teacher award program to raise awareness of its support of K-12 public
education in the Commonwealth.
The program recognizes deserving
Virginia teachers for their hard work and dedication to their students. Winning
teachers are given a credit for new classroom supplies from The Supply Room
Companies, as well as a cash prize from the Virginia Lottery. Both awards are
delivered during a surprise presentation at the winning teachers
school.

Building on the success of last
years program, the 2009 Super Teacher awards are currently underway with
more than 1,200 nominations of worthy teachers throughout Virginia. Winners
will be announced between April 20 and May 8, 2009.
Silver Anvil winners will be
announced on June 4, 2009, at the Silver Anvil Award Ceremony in New York City.
Nearly 95 cents of each dollar spent
on the Virginia Lottery by players goes back to the Commonwealth in the form of
contributions to education, prizes and retailer commissions. Since 1999, all
Virginia Lottery profits have been designated solely to K-12 public school
education in the Commonwealth. In that time, the Lottery has turned over more
than $4 billion for Virginias public schools. The latest annual profits
of $455 million currently represent about 6 percent of state funding for public
education in Virginia. In 20 years, the Lottery has sold more than $20 billion
in tickets, awarded more than $1 billion in retailer commissions and paid more
than $10.9 billion in prizes to players.

Amber Alerts: Loto-Québec in Partnership With Police
Departments
MONTREAL, Quebec, Canada (April 23,
2009) -- Loto-Québec signed a
partnership agreement yesterday with Québecs various police forces
- the Sûreté du Québec, Montreal Police Service and the
RCMP - to assist them in Amber Alerts when children are victims of kidnapping
and their lives are in danger.
This partnership involves making
available to police forces the Corporations network of lottery terminals
- including the new terminal that is equipped with a consumer facing display
screen.
 |
The object of this
partnership is to locate children who have been kidnapped as quickly as
possible, and to ensure that these crises are resolved without harm to the
victim, commented Loto-Québec President and CEO
Alain Cousineau. We hope
that our contribution will allow Québecs police forces to receive
the information they need from the population with all due speed.
According to the Sûreté
du Québec, there is no doubt that the participation of
Loto-Québec and all its other partners will help police gain precious
time by communicating instantly with a very large public in order to acquire
information that may be of use in the successful pursuit of their searches.
Thanks to technology implemented by
Loto-Québec, an Amber Alert can be deployed in less than ten minutes
over the entire network of 8,934 terminals throughout the province.
Loto-Québec will broadcast a description of the child, the suspect being
sought and, depending on individual circumstances, the vehicle involved, over
its network of new terminals that have been installed in all lottery retail
businesses in Québec. In accordance with current norms, this information
will be displayed for two hours. Moreover, a section of
Loto-Québecs web site will be dedicated to the Alert Amber program
and contain pertinent information about it.

Iowa Attractions, Businesses, Tourism Office, Lottery Join In Summer
Tourism Push
Promotion Will Focus on
Encouraging People to Travel and Save in Iowa
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (April 24,
2009) Businesses across the state have joined with the Iowa Tourism
Office and the Iowa Lottery in an initiative designed to encourage people to
travel Iowa this summer, frequent Iowa attractions and businesses, and give the
entire state a boost in these tough economic times.
The Tourism Office and Lottery are
spearheading the initiative, which will mean special offers to popular events
and attractions and discounts on a host of products for those who have a
Powerball ticket. The project was announced Friday during the annual Iowa
Tourism Unity Day, an event in West Des Moines attended by tourism enthusiasts
from across the state.
"It's about the state, Iowa
communities and Iowa businesses banding together to help ourselves," said
Nancy Landess, manager of the Iowa Tourism Office. "Iowans have always
helped their neighbors and their communities during tough times - this is just
a new take on that."
The slogan of the campaign, which
will kick off in early May, is "Keep Your Powerball Ticket Handy." The
Iowa Lottery and several of Iowa's most popular destinations will give special
offers to customers who purchase a Powerball ticket.
Those featured attractions announced
at the event include the Iowa Speedway in Newton; Honey Creek Resort in
Moravia; Adventureland amusement park in Altoona; Riverboat Twilight, which
offers riverboat trips from Le Claire to Dubuque; Kings Pointe Waterpark Resort
in Storm Lake; Iowa Marriott Hotels at special participating locations; FunCity
amusement park in Burlington; and the Mississippi River Museum in Dubuque.
Iowa Lottery CEO Terry Rich said he
thinks the campaign is unique in the United States in that state entities and
private businesses are teaming up to collectively help the state weather the
current economic storm.
"There are lots of reports about
people looking for 'staycation' ideas this summer that allow them to
economically spend their time off close to home," Rich said. "This
initiative fits the bill perfectly by giving folks discounts they can use as
they visit sites across Iowa!"
Rich said that the campaign will
start May 3 with the lottery's "Big Beepin' Deal" promotion. Through
late May, for every 20th $10 Powerball® with Power Play® purchase made
statewide, the lottery terminal will make a beeping sound like a car horn and
the customer who purchased the ticket will win $20 cash on the spot.
The Iowa attractions that are part
of the campaign will make their own special offers to Powerball players in Iowa
during the summer. The offers begin May 3 and will change with each Powerball
drawing. Players can learn about the latest special deals by visiting
www.ialottery.com or www.traveliowa.com.
A lottery "Prize Patrol" team
will extend the campaign even further by visiting Iowa festivals, fairs and
other local events during May and June to give out free merchandise and other
special offers.
Rich said the entire campaign is
designed to drive more customers to Iowa attractions and businesses, helping
them at a crucial time during this down economy.
"We want our Iowa attractions and
businesses to succeed because with the business taxes they produce and the jobs
and revenue they provide, they're the backbone of our communities," Rich
said. "We hope to drive millions of dollars in new or additional business
into Iowa this summer."
 |
| Lottery
CEO Terry Rich with Iowa Tourism Office Manager Nancy
Landess |
Landess and Rich invite Iowa
attractions and businesses of all types to join in the campaign by making
special offers to Powerball players. They said that for example, grocery stores
could offer discounts on staples such as milk and bread; convenience stores
could make special offers for drinks or snacks; restaurants could make special
meal deals; and movie theatres could offer discounts on ticket prices.
"By working together, we can lift
ourselves up," Landess said. "It's a great opportunity for people to get
out and explore Iowa - and save money while they're doing it."
Attractions and businesses that are
interested in being a part of the campaign can contact the Lottery or the
Tourism Office for more information. The contact information is:

New Functionality on Danske Spil's Terminal / New Responsibility
Initiative
DENMARK (April 28, 2009) --
Danske Spil is developing new terminal
functionality. The functionality will be called sales ceiling.
The sales ceiling allows dealers to
define a sales limit for the terminal. When the limit is reached, the terminal
will be locked for further sales. Sales will resume only when the dealer has
unlocked the terminal.
Using a screen button and the sales
ceiling code received, dealers can decide whether they want to install a sales
ceiling. Dealers can choose between ten different amounts or no sales
ceiling.
The sales ceiling will always be
based on the past six days of sales. The terminal will be locked if sales reach
the sales ceiling. However, the terminal still allows prize payments,
cancellations, accounts, etc.
Dealers need not worry that they
will suddenly reach the ceiling as on-screen information will show how close
they are to reaching the ceiling. The button switches between green, yellow and
red depending on how close sales are to the ceiling.
The sales ceiling is optional, but
Danske Spil wants the individual dealer to make a decision. The button will
therefore blink until they have made a decision.
The sales ceiling option is the
result of a wish from the Dealer committee following some cases where people in
some of the shops have spent a lot of money on games. The sales ceiling can
help limit the amount spent.
However, dealers should be aware
that the sales ceiling does not prevent this from happening entirely, so that
the shops should still make daily accounts.
If everything goes according to
plan, the sales ceiling will be added to the terminals at the end of April or
the beginning of May. But first, all dealers will receive a sales ceiling code
and an instruction.

Lottery Launches Megabucks Doubler
Improved game promises to
deliver higher jackpots and more winners
MASSACHUSETTS, USA (April 28, 2009
-- The Massachusetts State Lottery enters
a new era on Saturday with the inaugural drawing for Megabucks Doubler, an
exciting revamp of its oldest jackpot game. Designed in the image of Megabucks,
the improved game will create much bigger jackpots and higher lower-tier
prizes.
| Classified
Ad |
|
Megabucks Doubler promises
to create a great deal of excitement with higher jackpots and significantly
more winners, Executive Director Mark Cavanagh said. The
improved game represents a real opportunity for our players and a fun way to
raise more revenue for our 351 cities and towns.
Megabucks Doubler will be a far
superior game with a number of new attributes:
Jackpots on average will be
twice as high in the new game
Overall prize payout will
grow from 50 percent to 55 percent
Players will have the option
to take a lump sum payout for jackpots
Starting jackpots will be
increased from $400,000 to $500,000
One-in-10 tickets will be a
Doubler ticket that would double non-jackpot prizes
Doubler tickets are issued at
no extra cost to players
Lower-tier prizes for
matching 3, 4, or 5 numbers all dramatically increase
Match 5-of-6 jumps from
$1,500 to $2,500, $5,000 with Doubler ticket
Match 4-of-6 jumps from $75
to $100, $200 with Doubler ticket
Match 3-of-6 jumps from free
bet to $2, $4 with Doubler ticket
Megabucks, which began in 1982, had
sales of $40.5 million last fiscal year or about 1 percent of total Lottery
sales. But sales for Megabucks dwindled over the years as other games gained in
popularity. In 1986 for example, Megabucks sold more than $473 million in
tickets or about 43 percent of Lottery sales.
Our players will enjoy this
game more than the original, Cavanagh said. The game
preserves the best of the old and adds a bold, freshness to our
portfolio.
Sales for Megabucks Doubler will
begin Thursday, April 30 for the inaugural drawing on Saturday, May 2.
Megabucks Doubler drawings will be held every Wednesday and Saturday and aired
on WCVB-TV Channel 5 at 11:24 p.m.

Washington's Lottery to Offer Multi-State
Powerball
Legislature Approves State's
Participation in a Second Multi-State Game
OLYMPIA, Washington (April 28, 2009)
- The 2009 Legislature granted Washington's
Lottery the ability to offer the multi-state draw game
Powerball following final passage of Engrossed
Substitute Senate Bill 6108 on April 25. SB 6108 was approved by the Senate in
a 31-15 vote and by the House of Representatives in a 60-35 vote. The measure
awaits the Governor's signature and will go into effect in 90 days. At this
time, Powerball is projected to be available in Washington by late 2009 or
early 2010.
"Currently 30 states, Washington
D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands conduct Powerball," said Washington's
Lottery Director Chris Liu. "This
legislation gives Washington the ability to offer two multi-state games,
Powerball and Mega Millions, for the first time."
Previously, because of agreements
between the individual consortiums, states were only permitted to participate
in one multi-state game. In 2002 the Legislature authorized the Lottery to
participate in Mega Millions. There are
two multi-state lottery game organizations with various member states: the Mega
Millions Consortium, of which Washington is a member, has 12 member states;
and, the Multi-State Lottery Association, which runs Powerball games. Sales
generated by Powerball will be directed to the state General Fund for the
Student Achievement Program.
