Mobile. Fairlight's CC-1 Platform Proves a Winner for
Française des Jeux, the French National Lottery
PARIS, France (February 3, 2009) -- Fairlight's
ground-breaking Crystal Core (CC-1) technology is proving to be a winner for
Française des Jeux, the French
national lottery organisation that also handles the Euro Millions lottery.
 |
Based in Paris,
Française des Jeux has an in-house audio and video production facility
that is used to create TV commercials and a regular talk show. The facility is
equipped with a Fairlight Constellation console, which has now been upgraded to
the CC-1 platform. FDJ has also installed Fairlight MediaLink so that it can
easily connect its Constellation to its Avid video editing system.
FDJs post production senior manager Richard Perez
says: Fairlight has always offered exceptional technology and we were
very happy working with the old QDC platform. However, it only took one demo of
the new CC-1 technology to convince me that we needed to upgrade. We now have a
much faster and more efficient system and this has helped us increase workflow
and dramatically reduce the amount of amount of time it takes to set up before
a session. Perez adds that FDJ now plans to
upgrade its Constellation console to include the new Xynergi Centre Panel. It
is hoped that this work will take place within the next few months.
Incorporated into Fairlights key products such as
Constellation, Connie II, Connie III and Xynergi, CC-1 has placed the company
at the forefront of green computing initiatives by providing an
alternative processing platform that delivers increased performance with
dramatically lower power consumption. In a world where energy price rises and
climate change are major concerns for every business, this technology is
proving enormously popular because it performs digital audio and video
processing hundreds of times more efficiently than state-of-the-art CPUs or
digital signal processors. The French market in
particular has been keen to embrace CC-1. Other facilities that have recently
upgraded include France 3s regional production centers in Amiens and
Orleans, both of which are equipped with Dream Constellation consoles.
The facilities, which are
used for news and magazine program production, have also installed AV Process
3.0 CCE (Crystal Core Edition), a new tool developed by Fairlights French
business partner EuroMedia Technologies that allows them to automate their
entire production workflow. Over in Strasburg, France
3 has a much larger production centre where it makes programming in HD and 5.1.
Here it has two studios - one for 5.1 film and TV projects and one multipurpose
room. Both have Constellation consoles and these have also been upgraded to the
CC-1 platform. It has also installed MediaLink to network the two studios.
Denis Derigent, managing director of EuroMedia
Technologies, says: France is a very buoyant market for
Fairlight and, despite the economic doom and gloom, we are seeing steady sales
for the companys products. As well as the CC-1 upgrades already mentioned
we have also recently installed a CC-1 engine into Highway in Paris. Over the
summer, this facility was the first to install a new Connie III console, which
runs on the new platform and now has pride of place in studio 1. The facility
owner was so impressed with the efficiencies his staff could achieve using CC-1
that he has now upgraded the existing Constellation console in Studio

Make Me a Millionaire Uses
Innovative Technology
SACRAMENTO, California
(January 31, 2009) -- When the California Lottery set out to create its new
TV show, Lottery officials knew it would be a perfect opportunity to showcase
what the Lottery has to offer. One example is the partnership forged between
the Lottery and Lighthouse Technologies Limited to create a state-of-the-art
LED video display that stands 12 feet tall and is 33 feet wide.
This is a one-of-a-kind screen,
explains Deputy Director of Sales & Marketing, Michael Brennan. It
gives us the ability to showcase our games while affording us the flexibility
to use animation and graphics to catch the viewers attention.
On this weeks episode, more than $169,000 in
cash and prizes were awarded to 12 contestants. Its estimated that the
cash and awards given away on the California Lotterys new TV show will
surpass any other game show on the planet. With new
games and more prizes, Make Me a Millionaire is just one of
the exciting changes at the Lottery. The Lottery has a new logo and CVS stores
are now part of the expanded network of more than 20,500 retailers.
Contestants told Lottery
officials life-changing prizes will be spent pursuing lifelong dreams. Mike
Busler from Modesto always hoped to return to school to become the owner and
operator of his own electrical contracting business. Clariss Edison, of
Gardena, plans to retire next year and will do charity work at church and at
local schools. With the progressive jackpot
increasing $200,000 each week, next weeks contestants will have a chance
to win $1.6 million. For more information about the
new show, visit www.calottery.com.
About The California Lottery
More than 95 cents of every Lottery dollar is returned to
the community in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retail
commissions. The California Lottery contributes at least 34 cents of every
dollar that players spend on Lottery products to public education and returns
more than 50 percent of sales to players in the form of prizes. Since its

GLI Asia
Celebrates Lab Grand Opening Test Lab and Interoperability Center Is First In
Region MACAU, China (February 4, 2009)
More than 55 regulators and other dignitaries joined GLI Asia for the grand
opening of its GLI Asia Interoperability and Testing Center, the first gaming
test lab in the region. The event drew a large mix of dignitaries from across
the region and from many aspects of the industry, including suppliers,
government officials, operators and regulators.
The GLI Asia
Interoperability and Testing Center will serve several regional markets such as
mainland China (lottery), Japan, Macau, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore,
South Korea, Taiwan and other emerging Asian gaming and lottery markets. Many
of these markets have already utilized GLIs services including Macau,
China (lottery), Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan.
GLI Asia General Manager Larry Xiao said, Our
goal was to have more than just a testing laboratory or a Macau
office. Our goal was to establish an Asian base for GLI, which we now
have. From GLI Asia, we serve multiple countries along the Pacific Rim,
including their governments, local and international suppliers, as well as the
casino and lottery operators. Part of the
excitement surrounding the new lab is GLIs agreement with the Macau
Polytechnic Institute. GLI Sr. Director of Engineering and Client Services Ian
Hughes said, We entered into a memorandum of understanding to work
with the Macau Polytechnic Institute to work on joint research projects, to
provide training at the Institute, and to cultivate and hire future graduates.
We are proud that our relationship remains strong, and we expect it will be
expanded to include other areas of cooperation in the future.
GLI Asia is staffed with
local test engineers providing service mainly to local companies. Xiao, a
Chinese native, said, We wanted to do more than open a service
office like other firms do. We wanted to better serve our customers by
establishing a full laboratory that is truly global in resources and local in
focus, which is the driving principle of GLI services worldwide.

OLG Measures Limiting Potential Fraudulent
Activities New Initiatives
Further Strengthen Player Protection; Improve Game-Playing
TORONTO, Canada (February 4, 2009) -- Player protection
measures initiated by OLG over the past two years have had a positive impact on
limiting potential fraudulent activities, Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG)
said today. It released a report by Deloitte which also provides insight on how
to enhance player protection and improve the lottery experience.
With today's release, OLG is announcing the following new
initiatives that continue to build a better and more secure lottery system in
Ontario:
- Replacing the free tickets given
out on Encore prize payouts with cash by April 2009.
- Phasing in of new barcode
technology on all instant scratch tickets that will remove the requirement for
a retailer to scratch off a VIRN validation code to validate a ticket activated
by January 2010.
- Allocation of approximately $3
million on an annual basis to implement real-time data analysis and augment the
human resources required to immediately flag suspicious behaviours/fraudulent
lottery transactions.
- Communicate more frequently about
lottery winners and OLG operations, including the publication of a new
quarterly Player Protection Progress Report, which launches this Spring.
- The addition of Greg McKenzie to
OLG's Executive Team as Senior Vice President of Lottery, to lead the required
change in OLG's lottery business.
"Today marks the next
phase in the transformation of OLG's lottery operations," said Kelly
McDougald, Chief Executive Officer of OLG. "For the past two years the
organization has been better protecting players, and this in-depth analysis of
13 years of lottery data, confirms we are on the right path and gives us great
insight to drive even greater changes into our business."
Commissioned by the Crown Corporation's new management
team in June 2008, the report provides an unprecedented analysis of more than
200 billion pieces of data from 13 years of lottery operations in Ontario.
The report identifies atypical behaviours where the
potential for fraudulent activity may have taken place. The report also notes
that most of these behaviours appear to have declined following the
implementation of player protection measures by OLG. One key measure
implemented by OLG is the mandatory signature boxes on online tickets.
OLG will be instituting the following steps to provide
players with a better game-playing experience:
- Increase customer communication
campaigns to highlight the rules of the game and retailer responsibilities,
including the re-launch of an enhanced public education campaign beginning in
early March.
- Provide opportunities for
customers to better protect themselves.
- Enhanced customer feedback
monitoring to seek out new and innovative product offerings with additional
insight into player preferences and trends.
"The new leadership of OLG
asked for this analysis and committed to release it publicly," added
McDougald. "It is a great tool for us to build more safeguards and improve
our customers' playing experience; but, it is also an important milestone in
demonstrating the transparency and integrity that is critical to re-building
the public's trust in our organization." SOURCE: ,

A Month Later, Powerball Makes Its
Mark! More Than $50
Million in Total Sales During the First Month TALLAHASSEE, Florida (February 5, 2009) -- The
Florida Lottery today announced that
POWERBALL® ticket sales for the first
month totaled more than $50 million. Since its launch on January 4, 2009,
POWERBALL has generated significant net gains in sales and contributions to the
EETF, even considering the shift of sales from pre-existing Lottery games. In
the first month alone, POWERBALL sales resulted in net gains of $12 million in
contributions to education, surpassing the states forecast of $11.8
million for the first six months of sales.
At a time when
its most needed, POWERBALL sales are helping us continue our mission of
maximizing education dollars for Florida students and schools, said
Florida Lottery Secretary Leo DiBenigno. Although
Florida Lottery contributions make up only a portion of the states
overall investment in education, the Lottery is proud of its commitment to
public education in the state. Lottery dollars are used to help support public
schools, including the construction and maintenance of close to 800 schools,
and Pre-K and K-12 programs; community colleges; state universities; and other
student financial aid. Additionally, the Florida
Lottery funds the Bright Futures Scholarship Program, which has awarded more
than $2.3 billion in scholarships to more than 400,000 Florida students.
Florida Lottery players and retailers have also benefited
from the wave of excitement surrounding the game launch in the sunshine state.
In the first month alone, more than $13 million in POWERBALL prizes have been
awarded to more than 1 million Florida players, including four Florida players
who have already won $1 million each by adding Power Play and matching 5-of-5
numbers in the multi-state game. Strong ticket sales
have also resulted in an economic boost for Lottery retailers. To date, more
than $2.5 million in commissions and cashing bonuses have been awarded to the
more than 13,000 Florida Lottery retailers across the state.
The Florida Lottery
announced the decision to join the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) and
add POWERBALL to its portfolio of games in July 2008, making it the 30th state
to join MUSL and the last state lottery to join a multi-state game. POWERBALL
drawings are broadcast from Sound Stage 19 at Universal Studios Florida every
Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m., Eastern Time. Florida voters, by a two-to-one margin, approved a
constitutional amendment in 1986 authorizing the state to operate a lottery for
the purpose of generating significant additional moneys for education. Since the Lotterys inception, the agency has
contributed more than $19 billion to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.
Today, Floridians continue to show their support by
purchasing in excess of $4 billion in Lottery products per year. For more

education, visit www.flalottery.com.
