Lottery
Launches 'Mass Cash Sundays' Popular $100,000 Jackpot game to be held three times
a week starting Jan. 18 BRAINTREE,
Massachusetts (January 12, 2009) -- The
Massachusetts State Lottery has another big winner Mass Cash
Sundays. Starting January 18, Mass Cash drawings will be held Sundays,
Tuesdays and Fridays as Lottery players gain another chance to win a $100,000
jackpot. We were hearing from our players and
agents that they wanted a Sunday night drawing, Executive Director
Mark Cavanagh said. And
were responding by rolling out a third drawing of our most popular game.
Its still your best chance to win $100,000.
Last year, Massachusetts
Lottery players bought more than $40 million in Mass Cash tickets and won more
than $20 million in prizes. Those prizes included more than 100 jackpots of
$100,000. Mass Cash Sundays is projected to increase sales for the
game by 20 percent and raise millions more for Massachusetts cities and
towns. The Massachusetts State Lottery will now have
high-jackpot drawings each night at 11:20 p.m. on WCVB-TV Channel 5.
Massachusetts State Lottery jackpot games include: Cash Winfall (Monday and
Thursday); Megabucks (Wednesday and Saturday); Mega Millions (Tuesday and
Friday) and twice-daily Numbers game. In Mass Cash,
players select five numbers out of a field from 1 35. Players win $10
for matching three numbers; $250 for matching four numbers and a jackpot of
$100,000 for matching all five. The odds of winning a jackpot on a $1 bet are
1-in-324,632. By comparison, the odds of hitting a Mega Millions jackpot are
1-in-175 million. Our players know that Mass
Cash delivers the best chance of hitting a jackpot and were anticipating
a big increase in winners, Cavanagh said. And the end result
will mean more aid for cities and towns. Since 2003, the Massachusetts State Lottery has sold more
than $26 billion in products and returned $5.5 billion in aid to Massachusetts
351 cities and towns for teachers, fire fighters, police officers and other
essential municipal services. SOURCE: Massachusetts

js@alchemy3.com Lottery Launches Instant
Replay LANSING, Michigan
(January 20, 2009) - The Michigan Lottery
is giving players an annual second chance to win $1,000,000 with its new
Instant Replay program.
Beginning January 20,
Lottery players can enter their non-winning instant game tickets into the
Instant Replay drawing pool from which one lucky player will be randomly
selected to receive a $1,000,000 prize! Drawings will be conducted once each
year and each entry will require a player to submit $10 worth of eligible
non-winning tickets. Over 100 different instant games, excluding those with a
$2 million top prize, are eligible for entry. Players may enter as many times
as they want but individual tickets can only be entered only one time.
Instant Replay is an innovative program that will be
integrated into the Lottery's highly successful online VIP club, Player
City (www.playercity.net).
Since its inception in 2005, Player City has registered
over 200,000 members and is believed to be one of the largest online lottery
player communities in the world. Membership in the club is free and once
registered members can begin to earn "Player City Points" for participating in
various on-site activities. Members can redeem their points for entries into
various monthly contests for event tickets and merchandise. Each $10 Instant
Replay entry earns a member 2,000 P.C. Points. "Aside from jackpot and winning number alerts sent by
email, the ability to enter second chance drawings is one of the more popular
benefits of Player City membership," said Lottery Commissioner
M. Scott Bowen. "Since launching the
club, the Lottery has awarded over 8,000 Player City members with a variety of
prizes ranging from sports tickets and merchandise prize packs to movie tickets
and gift cards. The addition of Instant Replay adds even more value to becoming
a club member by giving our players a second chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime
prize."
The first Instant Replay
drawing is tentatively scheduled for the fall of 2009. From the pool of
entries, five finalists will be randomly selected to participate in a live
grand prize drawing to award one finalist the $1,000,000 prize. The date and
location of the inaugural Instant Replay drawing will be announced later this
year. Additional details on Instant Replay can be
found on the Lottery's homepage (www.michigan.gov/lottery) by
selecting the Instant Replay logo/link. Over 95 cents
of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form
of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and
commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2008, the contribution to schools was
$740.7 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more
than $15 billion to education in Michigan. For

Retailer Rip-offs in Fresno County
SACRAMENTO, California (January 21, 2009) As part
of its effort to protect consumers, the California Lotterys Security/Law
Enforcement Division has arrested 13 people working at various retail locations
in Fresno County and issued arrest warrants for two additional suspects.
In each of the cases the
Lottery, in conjunction with the Fresno Police Department, the Fresno County
District Attorneys Office, and the Department of Alcoholic Beverage
Control, arrested retailers or store clerks for the grand theft of winning
Lottery tickets. All the suspects were accused of cheating Lottery
customers. While these crimes involve only a
small number of our more than 20,000 authorized retailers, we demand that all
our retailers be fair and honest, California Lottery Director
Joan Borucki said. The
Lottery will not tolerate those who deceive our players and compromise the
integrity of Lottery games. In the Fresno
County operation, undercover investigators posing as customers handed clerks
decoy winning tickets and asked if they had won. In some instances, the clerks
told the investigators that their ticket was not a winner. The suspects then
went on to file a claim with the Lottery as if the winning tickets were
theirs. Suspects face felony charges and punishment
including possible fines and incarceration in state prison.
The California
Lottery is a leader in consumer protection. It has one of the largest
forces of sworn peace officers of any Lottery in the nation.
More than 95 cents of every Lottery dollar is returned to
the community in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retail
commissions. The California Lottery contributes at least 34 cents of every
dollar that players spend on Lottery products to public education and returns
more than 50 percent of sales to players in the form of prizes. Since its
inception in 1985, the Lottery has contributed nearly $21 billion to California
schools out of total sales of more than $56 billion. Retailers benefit too,
earning $3.6 billion in compensation since 1985. SOURCE: The California Lottery.
