Pennsylvania
Lottery Sets New Sales Record Fiscal Year 2006-07 Lottery Sales Exceeded $3 Billion
MIDDLETOWN, Pennsylvania, NSW (July 20,
2007) -- Pennsylvania Lottery sales for
fiscal year 2006-07 set a new, all-time sales record, Secretary of Revenue
Thomas W. Wolf announced today.
"The Lottery just
completed another strong sales year, setting a new all- time record," said
Wolf. "Lottery sales continue to grow and provide funding for programs and
services vital to the health and well-being of older Pennsylvanians."
Fiscal year 2006-07 Lottery sales totaled $3.076 billion,
which was $6 million, or 0.2 percent, more than last year. Lottery sales have
grown by more than $1.1 billion, or 58 percent, since fiscal year 2001-02, when
Lottery sales were $1.95 billion. Instant games sales
for fiscal year 2006-07 totaled more than $1.7 billion, which exceeded last
year's instant games sales record by $115.7 million, or 7.3 percent. Of the top
30 all-time best instant games sales weeks in Lottery's history, 20 were in
fiscal year 2006-07. Sales for terminal-based games,
including The Daily Number, BIG 4, Treasure Hunt, CASH 5, Match 6 Lotto, Mix
& Match and Powerball, totaled nearly $1.4 billion for the fiscal year,
which was $109.7 million, or 7.4 percent, less than last year.
This fiscal year was the second-highest annual sales total
for terminal- based games in the Lottery's history, despite a $121.1 million
decrease in Powerball sales compared to last year because of fewer large
jackpots. Nationally, Powerball sales were 11 percent lower compared to last
year. Net revenues to the Lottery Fund for fiscal year
2006-07 totaled $949.1 million, which was $18.8 million, or 1.9 percent, less
than last year. This fiscal year was the second-highest year for the amount of
money returned to the Lottery Fund for senior benefit programs, next to last
year's record. The Lottery has generated $4.4 billion for the Lottery Fund
since fiscal year 2001-02.
"The slight reduction in
net revenues this year is attributable to the decline in Powerball sales and
the increase in instant ticket sales in which profit margins are lower,"
said Wolf. "Senior benefit programs paid from Lottery proceeds will not be
adversely affected as the Lottery Fund is flush." Lottery retailers, many of them family-owned small
businesses, earned $166.3 million in commissions in fiscal year 2006-07. Today,
the Pennsylvania Lottery has about 8,500 retailers, a milestone that was last
reached in 1992. About the Pennsylvania
Lottery: The Pennsylvania Lottery remains the
only state lottery that designates all its proceeds to programs that benefit
older residents. Since its inception 35 years ago, the Pennsylvania Lottery has
contributed more than $17.4 billion to programs that include property tax and
rent rebates; free and reduced-fare transit; the low-cost prescription drug
programs PACE and PACENET; and the 52 Area Agencies on Aging, including 650
full- and part-time senior centers throughout the state. The Pennsylvania
Lottery reminds its players to play responsibly. Players must be 18 or
older. For more information on the Pennsylvania

New Mandatory
Lottery Ticket Procedures in Effect August
1st WINNIPEG, Manitoba,
Canada ( July 16, 2007) -- Following a directive from the
Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) to
all its member provinces, Manitoba Lotteries
Corporation (MLC) is introducing new mandatory redemption procedures that
will enhance their Lottery systems and processes.
Effective August 1st, 2007
Lottery Retailers will validate Lottery tickets through their Ticket Terminal,
only if the customer has signed their name on the back of their ticket before
it is presented to the Retailer. Printing your name on the back of your ticket
ensures that only you can claim any prize the ticket may have won. In addition,
the message that Retailers must return the validation slip generated by the
Terminal to the player will be reinforced. This is the official record to the
player as to whether a prize has or has not been won, and the amount of the
prize. MLC is also developing a Consumer Education
Campaign titled "It's your ticket" to be launched on August 1st, 2007.
The multi-media campaign will help reinforce and educate consumers on the steps
they can take to protect their Lottery tickets. Sign it. Check your numbers.
Get your validation slip. These three simple, yet essential, messages will be
at the forefront of the campaign. "Manitoba Lotteries is committed to
ensuring that our customers are well informed and aware of procedures in place
with respect to ticket redemption," said MLC President and CEO Winston
Hodgins. In fact, over the next six to nine months we will be working
with WCLC to introduce a number of new enhancements at Lottery Retail
Centers. These new enhancements
include:
 |
- installation of new Lottery
Terminals that sound a distinctive "tone" when winning tickets are
checked through a Terminal;
- the installation of Customer
Display Units that will display prize amounts to the customer and provide
jackpot information; and
- the expansion of self-service
Ticket Checkers to all locations.
MLC is also working closely
with the Lottery Retailer Network to facilitate a smooth transition with the
introduction of the new practices and the upcoming changes and equipment.

Lottery
Releases FY 2007 Results: Lottery Raises $58.2 Million For State
Programs Combined Sales
& Profits From Lotto, Scratch and Pull-Tab Games Hit Records
DES MOINES, Iowa, USA (July 24, 2007) -- Strong sales of
instant-scratch, pull-tab and Hot Lotto tickets helped the
Iowa Lottery raise more than $58 million for
state programs in its latest financial year. Preliminary figures released Tuesday show that lottery sales
totaled $235 million in fiscal year 2007, which ended June 30. That mark is the
highest combined sales total for lotto, instant-scratch and pull-tab games
since the lottery's start in 1985, but is down from total lottery sales of
$339.5 in fiscal year 2006, which included TouchPlay revenue.
The unaudited figures show
the lottery raised more than $58.2 million in profits for state programs during
FY 2007, again the highest profits total achieved from the sale of lotto,
scratch and pull-tab games. The total was down from the $80.9 million in
lottery profits in FY 2006, which again included TouchPlay revenue.
Dr. Ed Stanek,
chief executive officer of the Iowa Lottery Authority, said two product
categories had particularly strong results for the lottery in its latest year:
instant-scratch games and the Hot Lotto game. The lottery continues to offer a diverse range of
instant-scratch tickets, and our results show that our players appreciate the
variety of play styles and price points from which they can choose,
Stanek said. Hot Lotto also saw tremendous growth this past year, due
in large part to its record jackpot of nearly $20 million, which was won in
Iowa. Stanek also noted that the lottery
received strong support in the past year from Ankeny-based Casey's General
Stores Inc., which has more than 400 convenience stores in Iowa and is in the
process of increasing the number of scratch games carried in its stores from 12
to 16. Sales of instant-scratch tickets, the first
product introduced by the Iowa Lottery and always one of its top-selling items,
rose nearly 18 percent to a record $125.1 million in FY 2007. The lottery's
previous record for instant-scratch sales had been set in FY 2006, when $106.6
million in scratch tickets were sold.
Hot Lotto sales rose 50
percent to $14.5 million in FY 2007, which saw the largest jackpot in the game
since its start in 2002 go to a central Iowa man. John Hall, a small-business
owner from Indianola, claimed a $19.97 million Hot Lotto prize in February. Hot
Lotto sales in FY 2006 had totaled $9.6 million. Stanek noted that Hot Lotto, which offers Powerball-style
play but with easier odds, should continue to grow in the coming years. The
game currently is offered by Iowa and nine other lotteries, with three
additional states slated to join the game by early 2008.
Sales of pull-tab tickets also saw a double-digit increase
in FY 2007, rising to more than $21 million compared to $18.3 million in FY
2006. Stanek said that while the lottery already offers a variety of pull-tab
games, it will diversify its offerings even further in the coming year by
beginning to regularly offer pull-tab games with top prizes of more than
$600. The lottery's success has been built by
offering variety in our products and entertainment for our players,
Stanek said. That will continue to be our focus to ensure strong
lottery revenues for the programs that benefit all Iowans.
Powerball sales continued at a strong rate in the
lottery's latest year, totaling $61.5 million, but were down from $71.1 million
in FY 2006, which saw a record jackpot of $365 million in the game. That prize
was claimed in February 2006 by eight co-workers from a Nebraska meat-packing
plant.
The lottery's FY 2007
results were impacted by the discontinuation of the TouchPlay program, which
ended in May 2006. TouchPlay sales had totaled $121.4 million in FY 2006. The
lottery had no sales in that category in FY 2007, but redeemed TouchPlay
tickets through their expiration date in August 2006, resulting in a loss of
about $78,000 from TouchPlay for the year after transferring almost $30 million
in TouchPlay profits to the state during FY 2006. Since its start in 1985, the Iowa Lottery has raised more
than $1 billion for the state programs that benefit all Iowans. Through the
years, lottery funds have been used for a variety of initiatives, including
projects to create new recreation areas, support research at Iowa's public
universities, develop new products and techniques for agriculture, and promote
tourism in Iowa. Iowa Lottery profits currently are
deposited in the state general fund, where they are used to pay for a variety
of programs. Some of the programs that receive money from the general fund
include education, natural resources, health and family services and public
safety. SOURCE: Iowa Lottery.
Pollard Banknote and Dubble Bubble® Give
Lotteries Something to Chew On WINNIPEG, Canada (July 24, 2007) --
Pollard Banknotes recent licensing
agreement with Concord Brands allows lottery clients in the U.S. and Canada to
leverage one of the most recognized confections in the world: Dubble
Bubble®. The first-ever commercially successful bubble gum, Dubble
Bubble® has long served as a staple in the diets of adults hungering for a
nostalgic nod to tradition. This gums
place in popular culture is assured, said Sina Aiello, Director,
Licensed Products, Pollard Banknote. With its instantly identifiable
crown and oval logo, the retro appeal of Dubble Bubble® targets instant
ticket enthusiasts whose gaming preferences are best addressed by evoking
associations with the past. Invented largely
by accident in 1928, this penny confection exploded onto the scene with a real
pop and has stuck around ever since, with no signs that its bubble will burst
any time soon.
Popularized throughout the
decades by employing imaginative marketing gambits, including the establishment
in the 1950s of the Pud character (who starred in the comics found on the
gums interior wrapper) and of bubble-blowing contests whose popularity
would eventually warrant national television coverage, Dubble Bubble®
roundly blew away its competition. Today, the
relevance of the Dubble Bubble® brand remains potent nearly 80 years into
its reign. With gum pieces selling in the billions annually in 60 countries
across six continents, and with 200,000 points of distribution within the U.S.
alone, is it any wonder that the brand is currently enjoying a renaissance
echoing its original appeal? Looking to
capitalize on this recent upswing in the brands standing, retro-styled
Dubble Bubble® merchandise has been welcomed onto the shelves of some of
the worlds leading retailers, said Aiello. This kind
of almost ubiquitous presence gives us every reason to believe Dubble
Bubble® instant tickets celebrating the brands enduring heritage will
meet with resounding success. The discerning
palettes of many of todays lottery consumers are certain to crave this
latest offering. And what better way to get players chomping at the mouth than
by having participating lotteries herald the tickets launch with
compelling assortments of point-of-sale particulars designed to encourage
sales? With enticing Dubble Bubble® tickets flavoring a lotterys
lineup, few are likely to resist this indulgence. Pollard Banknote offers a turnkey solution for licensed
games, including ticket design and manufacturing, prize structure consultation,
merchandise selection and fulfillment, publicity and promotional opportunities,
and second chance draw process management (including all customer service,
Internet marketing, and post-game analysis). About

Checklist to Ensure Prompt, Accurate Award of Cash
Prizes SCHENECTADY, New York, USA (July 25, 2007) --
The New York Lottery has released a
winners checklist to ensure the safe and accurate award of a cash prize
from a winning New York Lottery ticket. The list was developed in response to a
recent incident involving the alleged mishandling of a players winning
New York Lottery ticket worth $25,000. Lottery Director
Robert J. McLaughlin urged players
to adhere to these simple, but important steps. The Lottery awarded more than $3.9 billion in cash
prizes to our winners statewide during the last fiscal year, said
Director McLaughlin. We make every effort to make it easy, safe and
convenient for our players to claim their winning tickets both at retail and at
our regional claim centers, including the introduction of more than 5,000
ticket checkers at retail locations statewide. We urge all New York Lottery
players to help us safeguard not only the claims process, but also the
integrity of the Lottery as a whole by following these simple but critical
steps. The Lottery strongly encourages all
Lottery prize winners regardless of the prize amount to:

SINGAPORE (July 11, 2007) -- The New
Singapore Sweep has been revamped to offer customers' bigger top prizes, more
prizes and more chances of winning a prize. The 1st
prize will be increased from $2 million to $2.2 million, the second prize from
$400,000 to $500,000 and the third prize from $200,000 to $250,000. In

 |
There will be 48,000 3D

3-digit numbers drawn and they would win $30 each. In the Super Sweep prize,
the player has to match the 7 digits plus the alphabet, A-E to win $300,000. If
the number matches 7 digits of the drawn Super Sweep number, but not the
alphabet, the player wins $50,000. The super sweep prize can be snowballed to
up to 5 consecutive draws. If the Super Sweep prize is not won by the 5th draw,
the 5 Digit Cascade Prize Category, worth $1,000,000 will be distributed to 100
winners whose first 5 number on their ticket match the first 5 digits drawn in
the 6th draw. In all, the number of prizes has
increase from 27,808 to 48,134. The total prize amount has gone up from $4.8 to
$5 million and the odds of winning a prize have improved from 1 in 108 to 1 in
67. With all these changes, the price of the revamped
New Singapore Sweep will remain at $3 per ticket. The number of tickets printed
will increase from 3 to 3.2million. The New Singapore Sweep will also be timed
as a monthly draw rather than a moving 4 weeks draw. These changes were made in response to our customers'
feedback and requests. As a pro-active gaming operator we strive to be mindful
and react to the wants and needs to today's customers lest they be tempted to
bet with private operators. We would like to thank
customers for their support and remind them to always play with care.
