Steven M. Saferin

Biography: Steven M. Saferin, President, Scientific Games Properties, Senior Vice President, Scientific Games International; President, MDI Entertainment, LLC

In September, 2003, Steve Saferin was appointed President of Scientific Games Properties, a newly formed business unit of Scientific Games, Inc. Saferin continues as President of MDI Entertainment, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SGI.
Scientific Games Properties serves as the SGI incubator to ensure emphasis on emerging growth opportunities and for new products and marketing initiatives including Account Play, hand-held electronic games, promotional games and on-line game development. Saferin also oversees Scientific Games International's marketing communications efforts.
In January of 2003 MDI was acquired by SG and MDI's corporate headquarters are now located with SGI's in Alpharetta, Georgia.
Prior to founding MDI, Saferin was Director of Program Acquisitions at ESPN from 1982 to 1986. He supervised a 16-person department in the areas of product acquisition and scheduling. From 1978 to 1982, he was active in cable television franchising as a vice president with both Viacom Communications and Warner Amex Cable. In those capacities he supervised cable television franchising activities in dozens of major markets.
Prior to entering business, Saferin was an Attorney-Advisor to the Cable Television Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission, as well as a member of the law department of Viacom International, Inc. Saferin received a B.A. in Journalism from American University and received his J.D. after attending Georgetown University and the University of Maryland Schools of Law.
Mr. Saferin is a member of the Dean's Advisory Council of the School of Communications at The American University.
