Biography: Christopher Liu, Director
of the Washington State Lottery
Governor Christine Gregoire appointed Chris to lead
the Lottery in April 2005. A successful retail strategist, Chris served as
Director of Retail Services for the Washington State Liquor Control Board,
where he oversaw 350 state, contract, tribal and military stores. While at
Liquor Control, he built five new stores; the first to be constructed in 23
years. Chris also served as the chief architect for the agency's Retail
Business Plan that has provided a ten-year retail vision for the future.
Prior to joining the state, Chris served as the
General Manager for Sam's Club International, a division of Wal*Mart
International, helping to establish Wal*Mart and Sam's Club in different
countries around the world. Prior to Wal*Mart, Chris held General Manager and
Sales positions in a number of national and international companies including
Auto Parts Club, Price Savers Club and Southland Corporation (7-Eleven). Chris
holds a BS in Business Marketing from the University of Hawaii.
In addition to English, Chris speaks Spanish,
Portuguese, and Mandarin Chinese. He has proven to be particularly effective in
working across multi-cultural lines to build successful partnerships. He holds
a private pilot's certificate and is an avid outdoor enthusiast, hiking,
cycling and camping on weekends. Chris lives in Renton and is a devoted
husband, father, and grandfather.
