Biography: Jeff Hatch-Miller,
Director of the Arizona Lottery.
Jeff Hatch-Miller is an Arizona politician who was
Chairman of the Arizona Corporation Commission in 2005 & 2006. Before
his election to the Corporation Commission in 2003, Hatch-Miller served in the
Arizona House of Representatives for two terms (1999 - 2003), chairing the
House Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee. Hatch-Miller is known
from his straightforward, inclusionary style of addressing public policy
issues. He was honored as national "Freshman Legislator of the Year
2000" by the National Republican Legislators Association. He was and is
considered one of the most technologically "savvy" public officials in
America. In the Arizona Legislature, Jeff Hatch-Miller led the way in
putting government departments on the Internet, so that citizens can conduct
their business with the government without ink, paper, and stamps and from the
convenience of their own homes and businesses. He championed efforts in
Arizona, and in Washington D.C., that eventually lead to the adoption of the
"Do Not Call List." The "Do Not Call List" is considered one of
the most popular programs ever offered by government and has been successful in
stopping the majority of unwanted telemarking calls. In 2001, Hatch-Miller
worked to lower gasoline prices, bringing in petroleum company leaders, energy
experts, and gasoline deals to find ways to decrease gasoline prices. As a
member of the Arizona Corporation Commission, Jeff Hatch-Miller, has worked to
decrease investment fraud and to increase public awareness of "investment
scams." In the Commission's role as regulator of public utilities
(electricity, water, natural gas, telecommunications) he has led the fight for
reliable service, affordable rates, and protection of personal information held
by the utility. His leadership as Chairman was a key reason the Arizona
Corporation Commission of since 2003 is considered one of, if not the, most
competent and effective Commission in state history. Jeff Hatch-Miller also
serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Senior
Living, and is affiliated with National Association of Regulatory Utility
Commissioners and the North American Securities Administrators. He lives
with his wife, Anita Hatch-Miller, in Scottsdale, Arizona. One son, Mark
Hatch-Miller currently attends Yale Law School, and the other son Robert
Hatch-Miller lives and works in New York City as a documentary filmmaker.
