Biography:
Mr Henry Chan joined the
Hong Kong Jockey Club in 1974.
He has held a number of senior positions in the Club
and has taken leading roles in a number of major development projects of the
Club, including the opening of the Sha Tin Racecourse in 1978 and the
automation of the Club's betting operation in the 80s.
Prior to his appointment to the present position in
1993, he was the Head of the Club's Human Resources Department. Now as the
Executive Director of Betting, he heads up the Club's Betting Division where he
is responsible for the betting operations at two racecourses, 124 off course
betting branches, and 3 telephone betting centres.
He is also responsible for the lottery operations that
the Club manages on behalf of the Hong Kong Lotteries Board. He was elected to
be the Vice Chairman of Asia-Pacific Lottery Association in 2000 and appointed
to the Media & Cross-Border Sales Committee of the
World Lottery Association in March 2001.
In community services, he is a Member of the
Vocational Rehabilitation & Retraining Centre Management Committee, a Board
Member of the Hong Kong School for the Deaf, and a Member of the Corruption
Prevention Advisory Committee of the Independent Commission Against Corruption.
He is married and has three daughters. His main sporting activity is golf, and
his other interests include reading and travelling.
