president at Portuguese lottery (February 27. 2002) --
The Prime Minister of Portugal has appointed Mrs. Gertrudes Jorge president of
Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, effective December 18, 2001. Mrs.
Jorge began her career in 1973 after graduating from Lisbon University with a
history degree. In 1995, she was appointed a member of the Executive Committee
of the Institute for Employment and Professional Training, and became
Vice-president of the Institute's Executive Committee in June 1996. Prior
to her appointment to the lottery, she represented the Ministry of Labor and
Social Solidarity on the Interministerial Committee for Employment, which
strives for equality in work and employment. She also coordinated the work
undertaken by the OECD in 1997 to assess the performance of the public
employment services and has been involved in a number of European Commission
