| GTECH To Implement Automated Bus Ticketing System
Through Lottery Agents In Trinidad And Tobago
System is Given to National Lotteries Control
Board to Commemorate GTECHs 15th Anniversary in Trinidad and
Tobago PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island and PORT OF
SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago (August 19, 2009) GTECH Corporation announced
it will implement a new automated bus ticketing system, which will soon be
available at all National Lotteries Control Board of Trinidad and Tobago (NLCB)
lottery agents. The new ticketing system will make it possible for individuals
using the Public Transport Services Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (PTSC)
to purchase bus tickets at their local lottery retailer and have those tickets
validated on PTSC buses.
Designed to increase
customer convenience and enhance PTSC efficiency, the new ticketing system will
be provided free of charge by GTECH and operated at no expense to either the
PTSC or the NLCB. This new solution will be available in the first quarter of
2010 and will potentially increase riders on the PTSC; fully automate the
auditing of sales and route traffic volumes; eliminate the distribution,
stocking, and security costs of managing paper tickets; and eliminate the need
for cash transactions on buses. We are
pleased to offer this new system to the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, and to
celebrate our 15-year relationship with the NLCB, said GTECH
President and CEO Jaymin Patel.
GTECH is always looking for innovative ways to help lotteries grow
their business. This is an added convenience for consumers who can now buy
their bus tickets at more than 800 lottery locations. Lottery agents also
benefit by the additional foot traffic, which creates an opportunity for
increased lottery sales and bill payments. GTECH has been the technology provider to the NLCB since
1994, creating more than 2,000 local jobs and helping in the development of
small businesses throughout the country. GTECHs technological
capabilities, strategic vision, and deep commitment to community involvement
have been key to the success of the NLCB/GTECH partnership over the past 15
years. The NLCB and GTECH have enjoyed a
very healthy relationship over the past 15 years. This has been underscored by
professionalism on both sides. Given the traditions in Trinidad and Tobago,
GTECH continues to demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the culture
and religious traditions of the country, NLCB Chairman Louis Lee Sing
stated. The success of our Play Whe game, which regulated an illegal
cultural pastime, is perhaps unsurpassed in the world. It is for this reason
that we continue to work with GTECH. I congratulate GTECH on their 15th
anniversary and wish them continued success in the future here in Trinidad and
Tobago. This new service is an addition to
the commercial services already provided by GTECH, which includes prepaid
mobile phone top-ups and bill payments over its lottery terminals. Consumers
have the convenience of paying their bills for water, cable or satellite
television service, and Internet services at any lottery agent.
We look forward to working together with the NLCB
to raise money for good causes and improve the lives of the citizens of
Trinidad for years to come, said Mr. Patel. The goal of
GTECHs community involvement has always been to strengthen and enrich the
communities where we live and work, and this is a great way to start a new
chapter in our relationship with the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
Funds generated by the NLCB benefit the
Governments Consolidated Fund, which directly impacts the lives of
citizens in Trinidad and Tobago. In addition, GTECH has engaged in several
community service projects, such as After School Advantage, a program that has
brought access to computer technology to several areas throughout the
country. About GTECH GTECH is a leading gaming technology and services company.

the Commission issued an intent to award a seven (7) year Lottery contract,

benefits education in this state. We feel INTRALOT will be a great partner to
help us achieve these goals, says ALC Director, Ernie Passailaigue.
They presented a solid plan in response to our RFP that will enable us

time.

winning new lottery contracts because of our ability to get the job done right
and on time. We have been exceeding our partners expectations, says
INTRALOTs USA President & CEO, Tom Little. We are excited about
this new partnership with the ALC because we have the personnel, advanced

Tom Little. Constantinos Antonopoulos, INTRALOT

because we will be part of a team that will help the Arkansas Lottery Committee

Florida Lottery
To Roll Out Instant Ticket Vending Machines After Eight Year
Hiatus Installation to
begin in the Tampa & Ft. Myers area TALLAHASSEE, Florida (August 18, 2009) Starting in
Tampa and Ft. Myers, this week, the Florida
Lottery began the initial roll out of 1,000 Instant Ticket Vending Machines
(ITVMs) statewide. The Lottery is expected to have them all in place by
mid-October. According to projections from the Revenue Estimating Conference,
ITVMs will generate an additional $3.4 million annually in net profits after
expenses.
For years, Florida
Lottery Scratch-Off games have been a favorite among many of our
players, said Florida Lottery Secretary Leo DiBenigno. The
ITVMs in our state will serve as an additional tool for the Florida Lottery to
increase sales and contributions to education, while adding customer
convenience. In 2007, the Florida Lottery
conducted a pilot program placing ITVMs in 10 supermarkets across South
Florida. The results revealed a 36 percent increase in Scratch-Off ticket sales
for those retailers, indicating that the placement of ITVMs across the state
would not only expand the Lotterys diverse selection of Scratch-Off
games, but also generate player interest. The ITVMs will only be installed at
current Florida Lottery retailers with a track record of high-volume lottery
ticket sales, primarily in supermarket chains and approximately 45 independent
retailers throughout the state. The authority for the
Florida Lottery to offer ITVMs is expressly granted in the Florida Public
Education Lottery Act; however, as a state agency, the Lottery is required to
obtain Legislative budgetary authority in order to lease the machines. On May
27, 2009, the self-supporting, revenue-generating agency received approval for
increased spending authority to lease the 1,000 ITVMs. The machines will be
provided by GTECH Corporation, the Lottery's current On-line game vendor.
Florida voters, by a two-to-one margin, approved a
constitutional amendment in 1986 authorizing the state to operate a lottery for
the purpose of generating significant additional moneys for education. Today,
Floridians continue to show their support by purchasing in excess of $3.9
billion in Lottery products per year. For more information regarding the
Florida Lottery, its games and its contributions to education, visit

Loto-Québec First Quarter, 2009-2010 Fiscal
Year Loto-Québec
Revenues and Net Profit Show a Slight Rise Over Last Year's
Results MONTREAL, Quebec, Canada
(August 14, 2009) - First quarter results for Loto-Québec's 2009-2010 fiscal year
are satisfactory, showing a slight rise in consolidated revenues (+ 0.8%) and
net profit (+ 2.8%) for the April 1-June 29, 2009 period.*
Lottery sector revenues rose by 3.1%, an improvement
largely due to the performance of Lotto 6/49 (+ 24%) whose jackpots exceeded
$30 million three times during the quarter. The other lotteries maintained
their performance in general, with the exception of the Super 7, which will be
replaced by a new Canada-wide lottery in September.
A drop in total revenues in
the order of 2.8% in the video lottery sector was essentially due to the
closing of 394 VLT sites during the previous year, as part of the network
reconfiguration. The performance of the Trois-Rivières and Québec
City gaming halls, by comparison, showed an overall improvement (+ 25%)
compared to same-date figures for the previous year. The casino sector (including restaurant and hotel services)
also performed well overall (+ 1.4%) compared to first quarter results for
2008-2009. Casino de Charlevoix revenues jumped by 11.3% and Casino de
Montréal revenues rose by 2.3%, while Casino du Lac-Leamy revenues fell
by 2.5%. As for network bingo, same-quarter sales fell
by 21% compared to those of the previous year. Clearly, the June 1, 2008 bingo
reform has had a significant effect on the industry. When comparing results,
however, it is worth noting that figures for April and May 2008 predate the
implementation of the reform. A FOURTH
QUÉBEC CASINO A signal event during the
quarter was the June 24 opening of the Casino de Mont-Tremblant, the fourth
Québec casino and the first one since the Casino du Lac-Leamy opened in
Hull in 1996. The Casino de Charlevoix celebrated its 15th anniversary with
dash, holding a spectacular event the simultaneous decoration of a cake
by 1,293 participants the largest such event ever held, that is awaiting
confirmation by the Guinness Book of World Records. Finally, this spring, Loto-Québec completed its
large-scale operation involving the installation of a new game terminal and
self-service ticket-checking device in all of its 8,760 sales outlets. Another
initiative during the quarter involved mandatory signing of lottery tickets
prior to validation, a new rule that came into effect on May 15. These widely
accepted initiatives aim to improve sales and prize payment integrity.
The complete interim report is now available on

National
Lottery Winners Volunteer As Part of New Initiative
WATFORD, UK (August 18, 2009) --
National Lottery operator Camelot has
successfully piloted a new volunteering programme, exclusively for lottery
millionaires. With the first volunteering day taking
place in November 2008 in Cardiff, the projects were extended to include
further activity days in 2009 in West Lothian and Sheffield, and were all
branded a success by a whole host of National Lottery winners.
Bourne out of a desire by National Lottery winners to find
a forum to give something back and contribute their time to local communities,
the volunteering days were attended by more than 30 millionaires and family
members, along with a number of Camelot staff.

In November 2008,
Meadowbank Special School in Cardiff played host to Welsh millionaires
renovating ponds, painting a playhouse and climbing frame, and painting raised
flower-beds in bright colours. The schools 42
pupils, who suffer from speech and language difficulties, can now experience
the great outdoors first-hand in their own, newly renovated courtyard area,
which can be used as an outdoor classroom, or just a place to relax in their
free time. Burnhouse School in Whitburn, West Lothian,
which caters for young people aged 12 to 16 with social, emotional and
behavioural needs, was the setting in June 2009 that saw lottery winners
rejuvenate the outside areas. In the courtyard, the
area was cleared of rubbish, pavings were made weed-free, picnic benches and
railings were painted, and new plants and a bird box was added to help bring
the outdoor area to life. The front of the school was also revived with
weeding, composting and general garden maintenance.

National Lottery winners
donned their wellies and went back to nature to create new wildlife habitats in
Sheffield, in late June 2009. Working with Green City Action, a
Sheffield-based environmental charity that turns neglected, open city spaces
into areas of natural beauty and rangers from Sheffield City
Councils Parks and Countryside Service winners spent a day at
Tongue Gutter. An area leading to the Trans
Pennine Trail, Tongue Gutter was cleared of rubbish, long grass and weeds, and
the volunteers also built new benches and painted gates to make access for the
local community to the Pennine Trail more welcoming. Each volunteering day was closely organised with and attended
by Community Service Volunteers (CSV), the UKs leading volunteering
charity.

Susan Crossland, who won
£1,218,618 with her husband Michael in July 2008 and spent the day at
Tongue Gutter in Sheffield, said: I wanted to volunteer as I thought
it sounded like a great project which hopefully will get used by lots of
people. We have found it really rewarding to put some of our spare time to good
use and its been great fun too with everyone mucking in.
Charlie Hilling and his wife Geraldine won £3
million in January 2005. Geraldine, who volunteered at Burnhouse School,
West Lothian said: I decided to get involved because it will be very
rewarding to see the difference it will make to the school. We had a
really fun day and it was a great opportunity to give something back to the
local community that will have a real impact straight away.
Lesley Nicholls, Director of Employee Volunteering at CSV
said: Team activities provide a rewarding experience and an excellent
taster for anyone thinking about volunteering, and vital jobs get done for
voluntary organisations, which they couldnt otherwise afford. CSV
Employee Volunteering organises several hundred team activities for corporate
groups each year.
Dot Renshaw, Head of Player
Services at Camelot said: We know from speaking to National Lottery
winners that they place a real priority on helping charities and good
causes. Many winners already donate money to worthy causes, but for so
many of them, theres a real desire to give their time and make a
difference in local communities. The
winner volunteering programme has been a great success, and we look forward to
rolling it out to other areas of the UK in the future.
The total amount that National Lottery players have
helped to raise for the Good Causes to date is over £23 billion. So far
over 317,000 Good Causes awards have been made across the UK the
equivalent of 109 awards per postcode district. Over
and above its role for raising money for the Good Causes, Camelot is committed
to supporting local communities in other ways. Last year (1) its staff
donated over 2,498 hours of voluntary work within their local communities
around the UK, and raised £477,062(2) for charity.
(1) Number of hours applies during 2008/09

Lottery
Achieves Milestone $1 Billion to Schools for 10th Year in a Row
SACRAMENTO, California (August
18, 2009) -- As the fiscal year gets underway, the
California Lottery projects that its
vigorous sales efforts will allow it to contribute $1 billion to education for
the 10th year in a row while also supporting critical programs that honor
extraordinary teachers, outstanding schools and high-achieving students.
Despite the economic downturn, the Lottery is projecting
that its sales will increase slightly this fiscal year, largely as the result
of its innovative new game show, Make Me a Millionaire, and
its exciting new Web-based Replay program, which gives holders of non-winning
tickets a second chance to win prizes.
The Lottery estimates that
it will earn $1.054 billion for education in fiscal year 2009-2010, an increase
of $27 million over the $1.027 billion that it generated for schools during the
last fiscal year. The extra $27 million comes at a time when schools are
scrambling for every dollar they can get as a result of budget cutbacks forced
by the economic recession. Our employees take
special pride in knowing that the work we do every day benefits
schools, said Lottery Director Joan Borucki. Thats why we
are working as hard as we can to maintain sales in difficult
times. If these projections hold up, at the
end of next year the Lottery will have contributed nearly $22 billion to
education since it began in 1985. Besides earning
supplemental money for Californias public schools, the Lottery plays a
key role in recognizing excellence in education. Some of the programs and
initiatives in which the Lottery plays a role include the following:
Teaming up with State Superintendent of Public Instruction
Jack OConnell in supporting programs to recognize distinguished schools
throughout the state, as well as Teachers of the Year.
Saluting extraordinary educators by honoring them in
official ceremonies and giving them informal recognition by treating them
baseball games across the state. Sending winners of
many of Californias regional spelling bees to the National Spelling Bee
in Washington, D.C., beginning next year. Supporting
the Chronicle in Education program that provides news and information to 20,000
students every day. The program helps improve literacy and encourages students
to become better informed citizens by reading the newspaper every day.
Borucki said these hard-working, outstanding educators and
students inspire employees at the Lottery to work as hard as they can on behalf
of the next generation. These excellent
administrators, teachers and students dont make excuses just because
economic times are hard. They just get the job done, she said.
We at the Lottery feel the same way about our mission of supporting
education. More than 95 cents of every
Lottery dollar is returned to the community in the form of contributions to
education, prizes and retail commissions. The California Lottery contributes at
least 34 cents of every dollar that players spend on Lottery products to public
education and returns more than 50 percent of sales to players in the form of
prizes. Since its inception in 1985, the Lottery has contributed nearly $21
billion to California schools out of total sales of nearly $56 billion.
Retailers benefit too, earning $3.6 billion in compensation since 1985.
