FRANCE (September 4, 2009) -- On August 11, La Française des Jeux released ‘BINGO LIVE!®’, a new online game available on FDJeux.com website.

BINGO LIVE!® is offered in both ‘single-player’ and ‘multi-player’ versions.

Each card contains a square of 25 numbers ranging from 1 to 75. Players can choose to play one or more cards.

Single Player game

The Single Player formula offers 2 games to choose from: BINGO EXPRESS® and BINGO CHANCE®.

Players can bet €0.5, €1 or €2 on both games.

  • To win up to €2,000 at BINGO EXPRESS®, players must correctly complete a winning pattern of 1 horizontal, vertical or diagonal line on a same bingo card by matching the bingo numbers drawn. The less numbers are drawn, the more players can win. For example, if a player completes a winning figure with 35 numbers drawn, he wins €2 for €1 bet. He wins €2,000, for €2 played, if he matches a winning figure with only 9 balls drawn.
  • To win up to €500 at BINGO CHANCE®, players must correctly complete a winning pattern of 1 horizontal, vertical or diagonal line or four corners on a same bingo card by matching the bingo numbers drawn. The less numbers are drawn, the more players can win. For example, if a player completes a winning figure with 36 numbers drawn, he wins €1 for €1 bet. He wins €500, for €2 played, if he matches a winning figure with only 9 balls drawn.

Multiplayer game

The game is called BINGO SHOW® and requires a minimum of 4 players. The stake is €1 per card played. Players have 2 chances of winning the jackpot or the amount at stake:

  • To be the first player to correctly complete a winning pattern of 1 horizontal or vertical line by matching the first 12 bingo numbers drawn. The minimum jackpot amount is €100. The jackpot grows until someone wins it (rolling jackpot).
  • To be the first player to correctly complete a winning pattern of 1 horizontal or vertical line by matching the bingo numbers drawn when the game is over, i.e. when all the numbers (75) have been drawn. The amount of winnings depends on the number of cards played in the room game.

Multiplayer game also features a chat option so that players can talk to each others while they are in the game.

Responsible gaming

When connecting for the first time, players are offered the possibility to prevent themselves from gaming problems through two specific tools. The first one allows players to restrict their stakes amount played and informs them about time spent playing. The second one called Playscan offers players the possibility to be informed about their game behaviour.

Limited Edition World Series ticket Raised Nearly $21 Million For Cities and Towns

BOSTON, Massachusetts (September 3, 2009) - The Boston Red Sox Limited Edition World Series instant ticket has culminated its record-setting run with the awarding of the final $1 million grand prize in the historic game from the Massachusetts State Lottery.

Treasurer Tim Cahill and Red Sox President/CEO Larry Lucchino announced the joint venture in March 2008 to commemorate the Red Sox second championship in three years and raise much-needed revenue for Massachusetts communities.

The Limited Edition World Series game sold more than $177 million in tickets, awarded $142 million in prizes and raised $20.8 million for taxpayers. Overall, the Lottery’s four Boston Red Sox games have sold more than $682 million in tickets and raised more than $91 million for local aid since 2006.

When we joined forces with the Red Sox, no one imagined how successful we would be,” said Treasurer Cahill, chairman of the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission. “Together we have raised record amounts of revenue for our communities and awarded more than a half a billion dollars in prizes to our fans.”

The Boston Red Sox Limited Edition World Series ticket, a $20 game, featured 20 instant grand prizes of $1 million and two grand prizes of $10 million, the largest instant prize ever awarded by an American lottery. The game – the third Red Sox Lottery ticket – also featured Red Sox road trips, unique memorabilia and a second World Series Trophy tour across the state.

The Lottery and the Boston Red Sox created the nation’s first sports-themed instant ticket in 2006 and released their fourth game earlier this year. A parade of sports-themed games across the country has since followed in those footsteps.

Classified Advertisement

The Red Sox organization is proud of our longstanding relationship with the Massachusetts State Lottery and the resulting benefits this collaboration has brought to the 351 towns and cities throughout the Commonwealth,” said President/CEO Larry Lucchino. “We congratulate the most recent $1million winner, and all those fans who received prizes through the Limited Edition World Series instant ticket.”

The winner of the 20th and final $1million grand prize is a visually-impaired Red Sox fan from Eastern Massachusetts. A lifelong fan, he requested that his name be withheld. He said he has hired a financial planner and he will use the prize to secure his financial future.

Yaz (Carl Yastrzemski) was my favorite player, but I was a little young to remember the ’67 Impossible Dream Team. I do remember Carlton Fisk in ’75, waving it fair,” the winner recalled. “This entire experience has been incredible. I’m still planning what to do with the money and I’m taking it real slow.”

He bought the lucky ticket at Congress Card and Tobacco in Boston. The store will receive a $10,000 commission on the prize.

Highest EU Court: State Monopoly For Internet Gambling Compliant With EU Law

  • EU Member States can ban foreign online gambling operators such as Bwin, even if they are based and licensed in another EU Member State
  • Clear and undisputable ruling by the highest EU Court
  • Great victory for national governments and state lotteries
  • Ruling puts end to online gambling hubs such as Gibraltar, Malta and the Channel Islands

LUXEMBOURG / BRUSSELS (September 8, 2009) – Today the European Court of Justice has issued its much awaited ruling on the case (C-42/07) opposing the Portuguese Professional Football League ‘Liga Portuguesa’ and commercial online operator bwin against the Portuguese national lottery, Departamento de Jogos da Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, a member of European Lotteries (EL).

Classified Advertisement

For the first time, the Court explicitly confirmed that national governments can grant such a state monopoly not only for traditional land-based gambling and but also for gambling via the Internet and other electronic means of communication.

EL-President Friedrich Stickler welcomed the judgment: “Today’s ruling by the highest European Court explicitly states that governments can prohibit commercial online gambling operators such as bwin from offering games of chance via the internet to their citizens, even when these operators are based and licensed in another EU Member State.”

For further information please CONTACT: Friedrich Stickler, EL President and deputy CEO of Austrian Lotteries (English, German, French) Tel. +43.1.79070.1300, Email:  friedrich.stickler@lotterien.at.

About European Lotteries

European Lotteries (EL) is the European umbrella organisation of national lotteries operating games of chance for the public benefit. EL has members from over 40 European countries including all 27 EU Member States. The association's EU members contribute more than 20 billion EUR p.a. to the state budgets and the funding of sport, culture, social projects, research and other causes of general interest. Unlike many commercial online gambling operators, EL members only offer gambling and betting services in the jurisdictions in which they are licensed by the respective national government.

KEY POINTS/SECTIONS OF THE RULING:

Advertise Here
  • Court confirms previous case law: Member States are free to set their own policy objectives on betting and gambling and define in detail the level of protection they deem appropriate for their citizens (§59 of the judgment).
  • Limited authorization of games on an exclusive basis has the advantage of confining operation of gambling within controlled channels and prevention of fraud (§ 64).
  • Court even extends previous case law on the validity of a monopoly to internet monopolies (§ 67): grant of exclusive rights to operate games via the internet to a single operator, which is subject to strict control by the public authorities may confine operation of gambling within controlled channels.
  • For the first time, the application of the principle of mutual recognition in the gambling sector is explicitly denied (§ 69): in the absence of harmonization, an operator such as Bwin which lawfully offers its services via Internet in another MS, in which it is established and where it was already subject to statutory conditions and controls of the competent authorities in that state, cannot be regarded as amounting to a sufficient assurance that national consumers will be protected against the risks of fraud and crime. The Court goes very far by saying that the authorities of the Member State of establishment cannot assess sufficiently the professional qualities and integrity of operators.
  • Internet games involve different and more substantial risks of fraud compared with land based games (§ 70).
