G2S Protocol Extension Is Gaming Industry First
PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island and MONCTON, Canada (June 29,
2009) GTECH
Corporation and its subsidiary
SPIELO Manufacturing ULC
have created the gaming industry's first Game-to-System (G2S) protocol
extension designed specifically for the distributed gaming market. The Gaming
Standards Association (GSA) has approved a new storage class extension to
identify available download space. The extension is designed for the lower
bandwidth of the dial-up networks that typically support distributed-market
Electronic Gaming Machines (EGMs).
As the leading solutions
provider to the government-sponsored distributed gaming market, GTECH/SPIELO
are acutely aware of the markets unique needs, and are committed to
meeting those requirements. A distributed market G2S protocol will allow
lotteries and government-sponsored gaming operators to benefit from
interoperability between systems and all G2S-compliant manufacturers
devices. The G2S protocol creates a flexible distributed gaming network that
can quickly adapt to changing business requirements. Using this open protocol,
distributed market operators will now be able to migrate to new technology,
such as client/server games, while maintaining todays games well into the
future. This groundbreaking new extension
shows GTECHs and SPIELOs commitment to providing their clients with
a full complement of open protocols, said Victor Duarte, GTECH Vice
President, Gaming Solutions, and SPIELO President and CEO. We are
actively upholding standards initiatives to ensure the G2S protocols are
comprehensive and support all gaming environments, and our product alignments
demonstrate that commitment. SPIELOs
end-to-end solutions from INTELLIGENTM, its distributed market
standards-based central system, to its value-added, downloadable EGMs, to
proven games are designed to operate using GSA protocols.

together, GSA member companies from across the industry spectrum have created
something very powerful and exciting in G2S, and we are thrilled to see the
continuing application of the G2S protocol around the world.

Successful
Conversion of Pennsylvania Lottery System Positions Scientific Games Customer
for Future Growth NEW YORK, USA
(June 30, 2009) Scientific Games (NASDAQ:SGMS) today announced that its
successful conversion of the Pennsylvania Lottery gaming system ranks as one of the
smoothest transitions in the history of the lottery industry and has positioned
the Pennsylvania Lottery for future growth. The
gaming system conversion involved almost 22,000 WAVE terminals, ticket
checkers and Player-Activated-Terminals in 8,300 retail locations connected by
a new state-of-the-art IP-based communications network throughout
Pennsylvania. We are very proud of the
success of our online conversion for the Pennsylvania Lottery. We converted
$3.5 billion of retailer records to the new AEGIS system overnight and we had
no disruptions in instant ticket tel-sell and ticket distribution or advanced
sales for future drawings, said Mike Chambrello, the COO of
Scientific Games. The Pennsylvania Lottery is a long and valued
partner of Scientific Games and the Lottery has proven once again why its
operations are so closely studied and copied.
Pennsylvania Lottery profits support programs
to benefit older residents. Every dollar is crucial, said
Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director
Ed Trees. The
partnership between the Lottery and Scientific Games and the coordination and
hard work of both staffs has ensured an uninterrupted flow of profits and a
bright future for new games and initiatives. We appreciate and applaud the
patience shown by our retailers throughout this process.
The conversion of the gaming system began December 19,
2008 following a competitive procurement process. In the early morning
hours of June 16, 2009, Scientific Games successfully converted thousands of
terminals, monitors and validation machines at retailer locations across the
state of Pennsylvania onto a new state-of-the-art IP-based communications
network for the Pennsylvania Lottery. The conversion included migrating
to an advanced central computer system operating out of a new primary data
center in Pennsylvania, with back-up facilities located at Scientific
Games National Data Center. As part of the Lotterys new
contract with Scientific Games, it has replaced its communication network and
terminals with new gaming equipment, including the new WAVE terminals
with touch-screen technology, customer display units and in-store customer
ticket checkers for the Lotterys retailer network of 8,300 locations.
Since December, Scientific Games
replaced:
- 8,500 retailer point of sale
terminals;
- 8,500 self-service ticket
checkers; and
- 900 Instant Ticket and Online
Game Player Activated Terminals.
The new contract includes the
integration and service of an existing 3,700 Instant Ticket Vending
Machines. For the week ending June 22nd, online game
sales were $24.9 million, or 9 percent higher than the prior week online sales
of $22.9 million. Scientific Games supplies instant
ticket and/or lottery systems service and support to all 43 current U.S.
lottery jurisdictions, all 5 Canadian Lottery jurisdictions and over 60
countries around the world. In 2008, lotteries represented 79% of
Scientific Games' annual revenue of over $1 billion and the Company's global
manufacturing output was over 38 billion standard ticket units.
Scientific Games has built a reputation as a valuable vendor and partner to its
government and private sector customers through its breadth of capabilities,
innovation and its customized industry leading solutions.
About the Pennsylvania Lottery:
The Pennsylvania Lottery
remains the only state lottery that designates all its proceeds to fund
programs that benefit older residents. Since its inception 37 years ago, the

Lottomatica
Becomes First Italian Operator to Obtain Certification of Compliance to
International Responsible Gaming Standards
ROME, Italy (June 19, 2009) -Lottomatica is the first
Italian operator to receive certification of compliance with the responsible
gaming standards established by the European Lotteries Association (EL).
The ELA is an independent
association, created in 1999, that groups together European State lotteries and
games operators, and aims to promote cooperation between members and the
development of European games operators. The association is committed to
combating illegal gaming and to minimising the potential risks of gaming to
society. The ELA Responsible Gaming Working Group has
developed responsible gaming standards, preparing a certification process that
was launched for the first time in a test phase in 2008, and which recently
concluded. As well as Lottomatica, other international operators to have
participated in this first certification process include Austrian Lotteries,
The National Lottery Camelot, Loteria de Catalunya, La Française des
Jeux, Loterie de la Suisse Romande, Mifal Hapais, Svenska Spel, Veikkaus OY and
Westdeutsche Lotterie. Lottomaticas
certification process was carried out by a third party Deloitte
and verified the companys commitment to creating and developing a
programme to protect players and to promoting a model for responsible gaming in
compliance with European Lotteries Association standards.
The Lottomatica programme, launched in 2008 and under
further development in 2009, touches on various areas. Firstly, the company
commissioned a research project to understand the phenomenon of problem gaming.
Having formed an identikit of at-risk players, the research
outlined a number of areas in which action could be taken to educate people on
responsible gaming.
 |
At the same time,
Lottomatica began working alongside organisations that operate in the area of
responsible gaming, and launched a series of actions to educate the sales
network and its employees on the issue, providing them with an information kit
on Responsible Gaming in order to shape the behaviour of those employees that
come into contact with players. Lottomatica has also
adopted a code of conduct for clear and transparent advertising communications
on gaming, and this is also applied to all materials regarding communication,
promotional and merchandising activities. In addition, there has also been the
press campaign Gioca senza esagerare (Play without
exaggerating"), which has appeared in the main Italian media and on all of
the companys websites. In accordance with the
standards laid down by the European Lotteries Association, Lottomatica has
introduced a programme to monitor eventual risk factors before the launch of a
new product. Finally, as regards guarantees of a safe
gaming platform, Lottomatica now offers users of the lottomatica.it and
totosì.it games websites the chance to create personal profiles to avoid
excessive game playing using self-assessment parameters and parameters to limit
or prevent their game play.
For these specific
functions, in April 2009 the Lottomatica games websites obtained the
international certification of conformity issued by G4, the Global Gambling
Guidance Group, an organisation set up by an international group of experts to
address issues related to responsible gaming, and equipped with some of the
most cutting-edge regulations and protocols in Europe. "This European Lotteries Association
certification, commented Marco Sala, MD of Lottomatica,
shows how Lottomaticas activities are perfectly in line with the
most rigorous international standards in the area of responsible gaming.
However, this certification is also the result of our belief that responsible
growth is possible in the games sector, and that it can have positive
consequences for all those involved. For this reason, concludes the
MD of the Lottomatica Group. Our aim remains that of supporting the
Italian Gaming Authority in developing a legal, moderate and responsible gaming
model, and to develop activities that fully respect both players and the
community." SOURCE: Lottomatica.

Lottery Exceeds Return to Education Goal With End
of Year Transfer! Transfer
Brings Fiscal Year Total to Over $410 Million RALEIGH, North Carolina (July 1, 2009) -- Today, the
North Carolina Education
Lottery (NCEL) made another transfer to the state taking it over its
budgeted goal for the fiscal year. The NCEL transferred over $25.3 million for
sales in June. This transfer brings the tally for the fiscal year to $410.8
million and the overall tally from launch to over $1.136 billion.
We are thrilled
that we exceeded expectations for the year and that we could help provide new
revenue to the state especially with the continuing budget crisis,
said Tom Shaheen, NCEL executive director. The ongoing goal for the
NCEL is to maximize sales and raise as much money as we possibly can for North
Carolina. We could not do that without the support of players and lottery
retailers throughout the state. The NCEL
made the electronic transfer to the Office of State Budget and Management
(OSBM) this morning. The Lottery Act designates that
50 percent of proceeds is to be split between pre-kindergarten programs for
at-risk four year olds and class size reduction in the early grades; 40 percent
to school construction; and 10 percent to college scholarships. For detailed
information on where the money has gone so far, the NCELs 2007-08
beneficiary brochure is available online at nc-educationlottery.org. The
brochure includes county-by-county totals for each of the four programs. The
data is through June 30, 2008 and does not include 2008-2009 Fiscal Year
transfers. A brochure with data for the 2008-2009 Fiscal Year will be available
after the close of the fiscal year. Since inception
(March 30, 2006) through June 29, 2009, the NCEL has surpassed $3.4 billion
total gross sales. Over 95 cents of every dollar is returned to North Carolina
in the form of beneficiary programs, prizes and retailer commissions.
